What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

  • I found Sunbonnet Sue!!! from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

She was hiding over at HGTV Share Your Quilts. If you haven't looked at quilts there, take some time and discover some more very talented quilters.
The Pattern is Old Fashioned Sunbonnet Sue - BA0042. I found the pattern at Colonial Crafts for 10.00.
My little Payten Hope will have a new quilt for Christmas! This will be fun to make using seasonal fabrics for all her dresses and hats!
  • Searching for Sunbonnet Sue - Seasons quilt from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

Last week I saw a Sunbonnet Sue quilt where she was elaborately dressed and decorated for each month of the year. One block she was dressed in green wool coat and hat trimmed with fur. I can't remember whose blog I saw it on. If it was yours, please respond so I can see it again. It is truly a work of needle art!!!

No sewing for a month - I have been hand quilting my Grandma's Friendship Blocks quilt for my oldest daughter Shannon. I will do the binding today and then in the washer and dryer. I ...
  • Scarlett and her friends! from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

Nikki at The Scarlette Rose Garden is hosting a ball for the 70th Anniversary of "Gone With The Wind".
I just found Miss Scarlett and a few of her friends ( or were they foes?) around my house. I made a new Wedding Gown for my brunette bride doll, she is 49 yrs old, I got her when I was 10. Miss Scarlett is a Madame Alexander bride that I made clothes for when Santa brought her to my 10 yr old daughter Allison in 1989. When I made the green frock I thought I was sewing for Scarlette O'Hara ...
  • My Mother's Memories of "GONE WITH THE WIND" from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

My Mother, Dora has written her memories of seeing GONE WITH THE WIND in 1939, she was 18 years old at the time.

When "GONE WITH THE WIND" made it's first appearance on the screen at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Texas I had just graduated from High School.

Here we are seventy years later and I am two months shy of eighty eight years old.

I was 18 years old at the time, experiencing emotional feelings running wild. I felt I was the "Scarlett" on the screen and the "Melanie" who stepped back holding in her emotions ...
  • Still hand quilting! My husband is home and doing much better. from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

Thank you to all who are praying for us, Dale is so much better now. I am still hand quilting but at home now, it was really a good diversion at the hospital.
I am getting ready for the "Gone With The Wind" Ball. Nikki is such a gracious hostess! I am so excited to see her party and all who are participating.
  • Hand quilting like a deadline is looming over me! from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

No deadline but my husband is back in hospital with an abcess from his colon surgery last week. He is getting great care and certainly is just where he needs to be. We have a great doctor! Our grandson's first football game is tonight and he plays center, a junior in highschool and PaPaw wants to be there so much. He will listen to it on the radio and will be playing along with Cody.
I quilted at the hospital for hours yesterday, a great stress reliever but had to use my "shock treatment" for muscle spasms last night ...

  • My week ----- hospital and hand quilting from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

Crazy week for Colleen, my husband had colon surgery on Tuesday. He came home from hospital on Friday, he is doing well.

I had to have a project to keep my hands busy so I started hand quilting the Grandma's Friendship Blocks quilt. It has been years since I have done any hand quilting.

Easy does it, MIMI!!! my shoulder is tight so I need to slow myself down so I don't sit for too long at a time. Years of smocking by hand and french hand sewing caused me many problems with my shoulder, back and neck ...

  • Witches Castle quilt from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

  • New quilt pics tomorrow! from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

I have finished the Witches Castle quilt top for 10 yr old grandson Joe. It is really scary he will love it. I will post pics tomorrow.
Also, starting machine quilting (stitch in the ditch) on my Batik Puzzle Quilt. I no longer hand quilt, but did not want any stitching crossing over my puzzle blocks. So I decided to machine quilt it using my walking foot on my Bernina 930. An older model but I love that sewing machine. It is going pretty well. The blocks are set on diagonal, so I have two large triangle sections, and separate ...
  • Home Sweet Home from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

  • Witches Castle quilt from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

I started Joe Ferguson's birthday present today. The Witches Castle quilt with the flying monkeys is going to be fun - I am using several sections of panels from previous collections to help tell the story. Since Joe will be 10 yr old I have not used any pinks or pastels, no girlie stuff. The large panel has the witches green hands reaching for Dorothy's Ruby Slippers! Very scary!!!
He will love it. Birthday is September 9th so I have a lot to do.
  • OSU quilt for football games from "Colleen's Quilting Journey to Oz"

This quilt was made for my son and daughter in law for Oklahoma State University football games. I think 16 yr old Cody Dale uses it all the time at home. Nothing like a grandchild wrapped up in one of Mimi's creations! No matter how old they are.
The center section is flannel and it is backed with black fleece.
