  • Great Weekend in Arizona from A Quilter and The Chief

    SPRING TRAINING WEEKEND

We headed to Arizona last Thursday in our RV with Nicole, David and Gigi. Nick was able to drive, despite having had his 2nd rotator cuff surgery just a month ago! We met David's parents, Dan and Jeri there about 8:30 pm on Thursday night, at a very nice resort, Pueblo El Mirage RV and Golf Resort in El Mirage, Arizona. This resort is a lot nicer than the place we stayed at last year, with a fantastic clubhouse and recreation buildings with loads of activities, kid friendly, extended pool hours for kids (a big ...
  • Memory Verses from A Quilter and The Chief

    "His Word in My Heart"

Last year Nicole and I joined Beth Moore's, “1st and 15th Siesta Scripture Memory Team "
along with thousands of women across the United States. At first it seemed like memorizing 2 verses a month wouldn't be that difficult. Well, I have to admit it was. I did choose my 24 verses for the year, and memorized a few, but I didn't actually, fully memorize all of them as I would have liked!

This year I'm going to try to memorize one verse a month, with Nicole and her "His Word in ...
  • My Version of the "Madness" from A Quilter and The Chief

    SPRING "MADNESS"

March and April look to be busy months, a kind of "madness" (no NOT basketball !) with all that will be happening. At the quilt shop I work at we've got the upcoming San Diego Cruisin' Quilters Shop Hop starting this Saturday, and I'm working a lot of extra hours and long days!

Then there are the planned getaways or happenings: a trip planned to Peoria, Arizona for Padres' Spring Training, for a long weekend, followed by a weekend Women's Retreat with my church.
The next weekend we will celebrate Easter, followed by another weekend(YES ...
  • Winter Olympics Come to an End! from A Quilter and The Chief

My Love of the Winter Olympics

One of my most favorite things is watching The Olympics- especially the Winter Olympics, and Alpine Events, and Skating, of course. I Love the Olympics! I even enjoy watching the Nordic events, also known as cross country skiing. I also enjoy watching the Summer Olympics, especially the gymnastics events, but my heart has always had a fonder spot for the Winter games.

I grew up in Southern California in a suburb of LA in the San Fernando Valley. I started snow skiing when I was about 5 years old and skied my whole life ...

These are a few of my favorite things......

    1. My sewing machine: a Pfaff Creative 7570 (To quote Joan because I couldn't have said it better myself "sewing (and quilting) is my most favorite hobby"), and a few of my sewing/quilting accessories!

    2. My doggies:That's Sydney (4) resting her head on Lacy (12)

    3. DARK Chocolate: Any kind of DARK chocolate will do, but I especially love Dark Chocolate with Raspberry Filling:

  • January Projects, Part 2 from A Quilter and The Chief

    Gigi's Hawaiian Quilt is finished.
Just in time to be included in my January finishes for Charming Girls Quilt Club and OPAM !This quilt is for Gigi's room at Yaya and Papa's house. Whenever she comes to spend the night she sleeps in the room that was hers for 10 months!! It matches the Hawaiian theme in this room: Hawaiian Quilts and framed pictures I took when I was in Hawaii!! For Gigi's quilt I used many of the same fabrics as in the Hawaiian Quilt that is on the futon (in the same room), and ...
  • TAGGED for REDS! from A Quilter and The Chief

SHADES OF RED AROUND OUR HOUSE

Nicole tagged me. This time the instructions were to showcase 7 photos showing red around the home. As I took my pictures I noticed I actually have a lot of red accents around our house. Maybe, that's because Nick is a firefighter, and so we have collected a lot of
"fire memorabilia" over his 34 year career!
Hence, my 1st photo shows some of the red fire pieces we have!
2 - our red fireplace wall (color name: Red Red Wine)
3 - the red cat door stop my mom make (she used to ...

    Busy with More Than Quilting!

With the end of January approaching quickly I thought I would share what I've done so far.
I've been knitting up a "storm"!! I used to knit years and years ago. Over Thanksgiving weekend, Jeri (Nicole's mom-in-law) showed Nicole and I how to make knit kitchen cloths
(she refreshed my memory about knitting; I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it.). So before Christmas I made over a dozen of these 100% cotton cloths for gifts,
    and a few for myself!

Then I made Gigi one beanie with a pom pom and ...
  • Gigi from A Quilter and The Chief

    Gigi LOVES To EAT!!

Our granddaughter, Gigi is just the cutest!! She does and says the cutest things sometimes! (Yes, of course, we are a bit biased!) She came over for a visit with her mommy and daddy today around lunch time. When she finished her lunch, she asked to be excused ("escuzed!").

Then Papa and daddy sat down for their lunch. She quickly asked if she could sit in Papa's lap. Once there, she proceeded to have "more lunch." She wanted to "share" Papa's chips and string cheese! SO... she waited patiently while Papa peeled the paper ...
  • January RV Trip from A Quilter and The Chief

    QUARTZSITE, ARIZONA

Nick and I headed east to Quartzsite, Arizona for the big RV Show and the "Endless Flea Markets" last Thursday, spending the first night in Indio, CA.
We arrived in Quartzsite midday on Friday and picked our spot near some of these other RVer's. We were on the north side of Interstate 10, not far from where everything was happening. Talk about affordable--$5/night!! It's a unique camping experience if you've never been out there. You just get off Interstate 10 at one of the several exits and pretty much park anywhere you choose ...

Why, you might ask?!? It's Simple --it's the second t-shirt, designed by
our son, Alex, and bought by a company to market and sell!!

Of course we had to buy a couple, and below it is proudly worn

  • "OPAM Challenge" Finished Projects 2009 Recap from A Quilter and The Chief

When I joined the OPAM challenge in January of 2009 I never imagined I would finish so many projects, many of which were gifts. The group was made up of many (279) quilters from around the world. By the end of 2009, I completed 75 projects (and many other random blocks and a few quilt tops); but the amazing thing about this was that there were a total of 5,694 finishes for the entire group! WOW!! Now that is a whole lot of sewing and quilting!! It was fun to be a part of this group and keeping track ...
  • Christmastime with the Pavones from A Quilter and The Chief

Nick and I had so much fun when we took Gigi to the Kids' Christmas Party at the RSF fire dept earlier this month, put on by the firefighters. There were so many little ones running around just being kids and having loads of fun. We enjoyed pizza and cookies. Santa arrived and appeared out of the make shift fireplace, after sliding down the fire pole! Watching the amazement on those little faces was such a joy!

Last Sunday we spent the afternoon with family: we took a trip to the Ikea store in San Diego, and then we headed ...

  • It's December Already! from A Quilter and The Chief

Ok, I am a bit late in posting my finished projects for November. It was a "short" month for me so I didn't finish as much as I would have liked, and My one and only finish for OPAM- November was this table runner--shhhhhh...it's a surprise gift.

I did finish a couple of "blocks," though, that will count for the Charming Girls Quilt Club:
This block is for my Live Piecefully Quilting Bee online.
This block is for a Christmas "retirement" quilt for a gal at work!

Now it's December, and I only have one ...
