It's been super busy at AST this week! Not only are we getting ready for Christmas in July but, we are also getting ready to move!! That definitely deserves a double exclamation point! The road where the shop is currently located in being widened and, since it will basically cut through the classroom, we have to skedaddle out of there. By October or so, we will be in new, larger digs. Oh, I cannot wait because I get to decorate to my heart's content. But, enough of that- back to Christmas in July!Have you seen the beautiful ... -

I Heart Moda Home from A Thread of Red
It's like a trip to Grandma's attic here at AST! Last week I went in to work to find one of the cutting tables covered in Moda Home goodies. It was an absolute "Eek!" moment for sure as I had brought in some things for display that would work perfectly with what lay before me.How about a biscuit jar filled with crocheted cherry-fringed dish towels?Or a vintage drying rack that holds more tea towels packaged up in sweet little bags? There are even tablecloths that coordinate perfectly tucked up in a wicker laundry basket. I think ... -

Strip Club Beauties! from A Thread of Red
Uh-huh! Saturday morning dawned beautifully and we had a lovely group of women at strip club. What a way to kick of the month of May!
I was anxious to see how everyone made their Color Falls quilt. (I haven't finished mine. Bad me.)
Here is Anne's quilt, made with a very calm and neutral background. It is very pretty.
Next up? Jennifer, who explained that her husband had to be rushed to the emergency room the night before and was apologizing for having not finished. No worries here, girlfriend. We're just happy he's okay!

Grab A Pencil And An Eraser... from A Thread of Red
How do you design your quilts? Do you use a computer program or do you use basic, simple tools like these?
I use the second option. It rather suits the mechanical side of me, I guess. There's a thrill that happens when I take pencil to paper, draw a line or two (or three or four) and see what appears.
Sometimes it's a bit overworked and the prospect of creating a quilt from a drawing that is too complicated is daunting. But, there are other times when it all works together beautifully and excitement takes over and I ... -

Spring Has Sprung from A Thread of Red
All over Georgia Spring has made an appearance. And at AST, it is no different! We have so many new things popping up here and there it's like a garden!
This is the new Silver Thimble Club quilt. The pattern is called Georgia Hoe Down and it makes me think of barn dances and women in dresses with the skirts lined with so much tulle that they look like mushrooms popping up out of the floor!
Our sample is made with Sandy Gervais' beautiful Essence line.
Here's a close up of the quilt. Sherrie did a beautiful job ... -
What's This? from A Thread of Red
It's the beginnings of a new quilt I've designed. It's super bright and mod and I l.o.v.e. it. I am making it from Moda's Oz line. That Sanae is a clever girl. I think her's is one of the happiest lines of fabric ever. I should finish this top next week sometime. Still doing a bit of tweaking here and there. What are you working on? -
Spring Saturday Strip Club. from A Thread of Red
How would you like to say that 5 times fast? We had a great meeting this past Saturday. It was a beautiful morning- bright and sunny, and the classroom was filled with energy as we settled in to share our quilts from last month and to see what we will be making next.
I'm going to switch things around a bit and show you the quilt the strippers will be making for April-
The pattern is called Color Falls and the fabrics are a mixture of watery hues and subtle prints. It is definitely a manly quilt, which is ... -

Howdy Partner. from A Thread of Red
After work today I hopped over to Quilts and Fixins to see what was happening there. Upon arrival I realized that I had stepped back in time to when cowboys ruled and the territory was a bit wild- with shop hoppers!
Everywhere I turned, there were cowboy hats, boots and the friendliest cowboys, um cowgirls you'd ever want to meet.
Through the saloon doors I found the local sheriff- Jeanne, the owner of Quilts and Fixins, complete with fake fur moustache! Talk about getting into the theme of things, she even had John Wayne movies playing on the TV ... -
As American as...Shop Hop! from A Thread of Red
It's here! The themes have been chosen, quilts have been stitched, costumes created, shops decorated and everyone is ready for the 2010 Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop!
My mom and I hopped today. We left the house at 8:30 this morning and arrived back home at 5:00 PM. In that time we visited five quilt shops, after a stop at AST to retrieve my camera.
Our first destination- Patchwork Cottage in Lawrenceville. What a sweet little shop! The theme at this shop was Best Friends and it was a perfect fit.
This is Mita, the owner of ... -

After much trial and error (and adding a few gray hairs!) I finally figured out how to get this video on the blog for your viewing pleasure! Gee whiz, I can be a dummy sometimes. But, I learned something new from all of this and, for that, I am grateful.
So, without any further ado, here she is, Pat Wys, Silver Thimble Quilt Co. Queen Supreme, sharing a really neat time-savingtip for the members of our Silver Thimble Quilt Club.!

February Strip Club Love from A Thread of Red
It's a snow day here in Georgia! From the North Georgia mountains all the way to Savannah, snowflakes fell from the sky yesterday to blanket the ground in the most beautiful, sparkly white blanket. I haven't ventured out very far to photograph the event (just to the front and back porches) as I am recovering from the nasty flu, but what little portions I could catch in my yard were just breathtaking.Equally as breathtaking a sight are the quilts made by the Scarlet Strippers! This is Jennifer's Crossed Path quilt from January's strip club kit ...
