Patches 4 Lissa from A Scot in Tennessee
http://janesfabrics.blogspot.com/2010/07/patches-for-lissa.html
I remember reading Mel's posting about her sister-in-law Lissa a few months ago. My stomach knotted up and I joined with many in praying for her. Here's a fun project for all of you to get involved in :)

Blog of the week - Quiltoholic from A Scot in Tennessee
Meet Anne Ida (another Scorpio gal, though much younger) from Oslo, Norway. She is a fabulous quilter and loves to share what she creates. Like myself she loves the Elm Creek Novels by Jennifer Chiaverini. She is tackling Sylvia's Bridal Sampler.
Meet Anton, who loves to inspect her work. In this case it's the start to the quilt I received from her in the ALQS4 swap :) How cool is that !!!!! http://quiltoholiker.blogspot.com/ Scroll down to her July 1st. posting and see what she made out of a troublesome table-runner. Lovely.
Here's the finished ALQS4 quilt ... -
ALQS4 and Mrs. Moen "eyesore" fabric from A Scot in Tennessee
We have received our swap recipients. My quilt has a looooong journey ahead of it and the recipient has a beautiful blog. That's all I'm saying for the moment :)
Nina Lise aka - Mrs. Moen http://mrsmoen.blogspot.com/ sent me a package. It's "eyesore" fabric from the 80's that she was unsure what to do with. I loooove the cat fabric. The challenge is to see what we can both come up with. I drew up some designs last week while I was in Ohio. We shall see if any of the fabric "fits" the layouts ... -
A room with a view from A Scot in Tennessee
Look what I get to see every day from our kitchen window. Makes me feel like I'm living in a tree house!!!
Our Crepe Myrtle is in full bloom and looks lovely. It's also about the only thing that's doing well at the moment. Our Day Lilies look wimpy and the Lambs Ears are now past their best.
I love the shadows it casts on the back walls. It's been cut back about 3 or 4 times since we moved in but is still past the roof in some parts. If you've ever seen a ... -
Look what I found in my drawer from A Scot in Tennessee
I was rummaging a few days ago and found one of my "patriotic" table toppers. I think I'll keep it on our dining table for the rest of July. It's a basic multi 4 patch with machine applique stars.
I also found another one that just needs to be finished off :) The blocks are from an exchange I participated in a few years ago. There are more of them but I like these four together and will make something else with the rest. I'm contemplating using a dark blue fabric for the back and wrapping it round ... -
Scots Corner - On This Date in Scottish History from A Scot in Tennessee
Here's a fun site if you are interested in Scottish historical figures and events. http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/history/onthisday/
Today's featured notable is John Gibson Lockhart son-in-law to Sir Walter Scott. Amongst other things he wrote biographies of Scott, Burns and Napoleon. He is buried in Dryburgh Abbey near his father-in-law.Some other random facts for this date in Scottish history. The United States Consulate opened in Edinburgh (1798). Scottish National War Memorial opened (1927). Tomorrow is the birthday of The National Portrait Gallery of Scotland (1889). Happy 121st. Currently closed for renovation it should ... -
Blog of the week - Ambiance from A Scot in Tennessee
I'm up to my eyeballs in summer activities and other stuff and will slowly return to my regular blogging activities. I'm working on some basic embroidery and quilting projects that I will share more about once the weather is cooler.
Meet Elizabeth from the Netherlands who has a beautiful blog related to illustrations about quilting, I've been visiting her blog for a while now and never cease to marvel at what she finds to share with everyone. They range from funny to cute to works of art. Enjoy :)

The basic embroidery for the top block is done. Now I just have to add in some details. -
Project updates - Something old, something new, something maybe from A Scot in Tennessee
One of my old projects. I'm currently sewing on a wide white border and want to do mitered corners. The hearts have to be appliqued.
Two brand new tops put together over the past week. I might add more to the blue one. The applique is still in the works.
Part of the back of a Christmas wall hanging that I started at the beginning of May.
This is a "maybe" quilt that I designed and started at the week-end. I'm playing with the colors at the moment.
I will be off in the "wild blue yonder" for ... -
Project updates - "The Moon in June" simplified and morphing from A Scot in Tennessee
I wanted to do a scrappy looking wall hanging I really did, but I cannot get past my "ick don't like the look" factor !!!! I spent a few days playing with full sized mock-ups which was fun but .......... ick. Got lots of great ideas for other quilts but ...... nope not working for this one.
I really liked the design I drew up but I'm finding (as usual) that the design tends to simplify down as I work with the fabrics. I love the patterned fabric but would have lost the circle effect with the original idea for 11 ... -
Another Little Quilt Swap 4 - the reveal- "Flowers In My Garden" from A Scot in Tennessee
This is my first time participating in this event. It has been an enjoyable experience. Since I will be out of town when the quilt photos are due this posting is mainly for Kate so she can pull the pictures to add to her site. This is a two sided wall hanging "Flowers In My Garden" and measures approx. 19"x19".The "Retro Pinks" side is raw edged machine applique hand stitched on top with embroidery floss to "rough up" the flowers and flower beds. It represents when everything is in full bloom. The "Dreaming of Flowers Emerging" side is ... -
Blog of the Week - Ane Scherrer from A Scot in Tennessee
There's very few blogs out there that concentrate on one item and consistently do excellent variations on that item. Ane Scherrer is one artist who has done just that. She does not blog often but when she does the result is gorgeous. What does she do?Globe tree ornaments using prairie points which are often accompanied by stories or poems. Each ornament is given a title and the story or poem harmonizes with that.
Ane hails from Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and has been sewing since she was 7 years old. She also crochets beautiful snowflakes.

Local Life - The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957 from A Scot in Tennessee
Kris and I got back a wee while ago from the opening day of this wonderful exhibition at the Frist. It's part of the V&A collection and I believe the only scheduled stop in the US so we are privileged indeed.
We caught a sneak peak when we were leaving the building last week and Kris was adamant we had to go visit as soon as it started. We got caught up in all the traffic for the Artisans Festival at Centennial and I thought my van was going to expire in the heat (mid 90's) but ... -
Project updates - a smorgasbord from A Scot in Tennessee
My two sided "Flowers in the Garden" wall hanging is about complete. Just have to finish embroidering some flower centers. I might reveal next week what it is actually for :) It needs some dog hair removal because darling Lucy decided to jump up on the bed and lie on it and left some blow out behind. Aaaargh !!!!!!
Fabric package #2 has arrived and now I wait for #3. Then I can start my two new quilt projects. Here's a peak at a couple of possible combinations.
4 of the 5 500th posting giveaway packages are in the mail. Keep ... -

Project update - packages from A Scot in Tennessee
My little stack of packages waiting, on my reading chair, to go to a post office. PIF gifts, Postcard Pizzazz mini-wall hanging, hostess gifts and birthday cards. The little quilt on the back of the chair was made by my friend Cynthia and I won it a few years ago in a "silent auction". She was making a lot of baby quilts at the time and since I am well past that stage I "threatened" everyone with grievous bodily harm if I was outbid :)I've also been participating in a Postcard Pizzazz mystery make and send card. Those of ... -
Project update - mini Irish chain challenge from A Scot in Tennessee
"Flowers in the Garden."The "finished" wall-hanging measures 19"x19" and has been a whoooole lot of fun to put together, except for stabbing myself in the finger and thumb a number of times :) The front is what I would consider a traditional layout and is all hand quilted. The back has a somewhat more "retro" look to it and is machine appliqued. Picture 2 is a "sneak peek" of part of it. I have to finish embroidering the flowers. Most of my small quilts are double sided and I can usually come up with a way of either adding ... -
