What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

  • A time to keep silence from 3 Poodles and a Nana

My beloved grandmother, Nana Betty, passed away on July 16.  We had always been close and through the last years of her life, we were even closer.  It was a privlege to care for her and recipricate all the comfort and love she had given throughout her life.  She would have been 90 on August 9; I thought I would have a little more time with her and still can't believe she is gone.  The blessing in all this is that she did not suffer, was never in pain, and wasn't even on any medication.  She just went ...
  • And when the night is new from 3 Poodles and a Nana

  • Rain at last! from 3 Poodles and a Nana

If you hear a great big "Aaaaah" from the Northeast, it's the fact that we finally have rain...and a good soaking rain at that.  It's the first morning I haven't had to rush outside to water first thing in the morning and I'm delighted!  Been catching up with blogs.

The Nana Memory quilt is coming along well and I'll blog about that later today or tomorrow.  In the meantime, have a great day!
  • Hibernating from 3 Poodles and a Nana

It's still hot here in Northeast Pennsylvania.  We are praying for rain today, tomorrow, and Sunday as it is exceedingly dry and the plants are just burning up at this point.  I'm not on the computer much because we were told at the beginning of the week to conserve electricity (boo hoo for me--no clothes washing either :D ).  I have been sewing a great deal trying to complete all the blocks for Nana's Memory quilt.  Nana will be 90 in August and I want it to be done in time for her birthday.

    On the puppy front ...
  • garden updates from 3 Poodles and a Nana

It's hot---Dangerously Hot the weather people are reporting.  This morning I noticed that many of my plants had burned leaves from just yesterday's sunshine.  These are pics I took this weekend while I ran the sprinkler.  We are hoping for rain in a few days and are only being outside during the early morning and late twilight, especially because I worry about the dogs.  STAY COOL!

  • A smile from Miles... from 3 Poodles and a Nana

  • Fairy Treasure Hunt from 3 Poodles and a Nana

The photos pretty much tell the story of the Garden Fairy Treasure Hunt at Nana's this past week.  Unfortunately, I can't rotate the above photo (blogger decided it is going to post it this way despite even my cropping efforts).  The welcome sign is what the girls made on Tuesday to encourage the Fairies to come to the garden.  The girls had so much fun and it kept Helena occupied while I cared for Miles who wasn't feeling so well.

  • Thanks Dawn! from 3 Poodles and a Nana

Our friend Dawn from Cottage State of Mind recently sent a care package to Helena and I.  Thanks Dawn!  The stickers are already going to good craft use and I love LOVE LOVE the bun holder.  I think that is one of the neatest things that has crossed my passed in a long time. SUCH INGENUITY and I love light blue too (how did you know?).

Check out Dawn's blog.  She has only been blogging for a year but her site is so polished and she is always sharing wonderful treasures.  The only way I can describe it is ...
  • Cherry Cobbler--for sweet cherries from 3 Poodles and a Nana

I would take a pic for you but my camera is on the fritz again :(
But this was good and not too sweet!  I'm always looking for recipes for sweet cherries because we get good local crops of them!  This is what I'm taking for my coffee clutch with my Nana today.  Enjoy!

    Sweet Cherry Cobbler

    1 stick (1/2 C) of butter
    1 C all purpose flour
    1 t baking powder
    1/2 C sugar
    1 C milk
1/2 t cinnamon (or to your taste)
    pinch of nutmeg

2.5 C sweet cherries, cleaned and pitted ...
  • "Seamus the Poodle" from 3 Poodles and a Nana

  • Green and white garden from 3 Poodles and a Nana

I didn't mean to have a green and white garden near the patio; it just turned out that way.  But I like it, especially during these hot and humid days.  I get up at dawn to water, weed, etc and by 9 am, hide away in the house.  The dogs are especially unhappy about the weather and I feel bad that they aren't getting more exercise (basically, they go out, run for 2 minutes and bang on the door to come back in).

Good thing I have a bunch of quilting projects to work on and a few ...
  • Songs for the Spill from 3 Poodles and a Nana

Yesterday, local musicians and businesses joined together to raise money for the Audobon Society's effort to save wildlife affected by the BP tragedy. Among the perfomers, my son Peter's two man band, the Gremlins. It was a wonderful experience with great young people working in horrible heat to help the cause. Great job all!

  • Hi! Look what I did! from 3 Poodles and a Nana

  • Seasonal changes... from 3 Poodles and a Nana

This time of year, I am rarely on the computer unless I am doing specific research work. I check the email in the morning and rush off to get to the garden and all the other things that I seem to have energy for: quilting, research, cleaning. It all changes when the days get short again. For now, I'm taking advantage of every drop of sunlight that I have...

  • Busy Couple of Weeks... from 3 Poodles and a Nana

IT"S BUSY!!!! Last week I finished my power point program which I am giving this Friday and again to my Guild in August (the history of sunbonnet quilts). Brad came home unexpectedly so we got to spend the holiday weekend together (he had been headed to Equador but volcano ash had closed down the airport). He is off today again and I had to cancel babysitting Miles today.

Thursday I have a workshop for my one Guild and Friday and Saturday I am spending with my other guild during their big quilt show. There are just times when you ...

  • Blogger's Quilt Festival! from 3 Poodles and a Nana

Amy is sponsoring the blogger's quilt festival time! Today I can't find a photo of a quilt that I've made that I haven't posted already--so I am posting a photo of one my antique favorite Sue tops :) It was made by a local Pennsylvania quilter in the late 1920s/early 1930s. Enjoy!

  • girl with ball... from 3 Poodles and a Nana

A girl in a pink baseball helmet is a wonderful thing...

She can hit a ball and...

Chat with the opposing team as she runs to her base...

Work patiently at her base until...

the urge to draw in the dirt and sing takes over! Oh a girl in a pink baseball helmet is a wonderful thing!
  • Boys with Balls... from 3 Poodles and a Nana

Top:  Seamus never met a ball he didn't like :)  Bottom:  Teddy found this ball in the yard a week or so ago.  He has a clever nose so I am sure he realized that the George kids next door lost it here.  Thing is, this is his favorite thing in the universe now.  He LOVES this ball and the kids were nice enough to left him keep it.  Sometimes it even keeps him from barking!
