What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

  • A little bit more... from Americana Queen Quilts

I didn't get too much done today but did decide on the applique for my pumpkin banner.  Clearly I changed my mind about the leaves.  I used an Americana print for the letters...I just had to get some in there :)
I cannot machine applique or quilt it tonight because of another project I have to work on for my daughter but thought I would post the progress.

The letters are from the "Free Alphabet" from Pat Sloan.  It is great to have and they are printed in reverse!
The stem and leaves are from two different patterns I ...
  • I've been busy... from Americana Queen Quilts

Wow!  I cannot believe how long it's been since I posted!  I've been busy.  I wish that I was away because of a vacation but, no, just busy with life.
One great thing...I did get a new car!  Mine was on it's last leg so I needed to trade it in for a new one.  I'll miss the old one, we traveled many miles together over the past 10 years!  But, the new one is really nice so I think I can form a new relationship and deal with the change...HAHA!

    I bet some ...
  • What happened to the Green Star Mini Quilt... from Americana Queen Quilts

I did get to go to my sister's to sew on Friday.  Here she is at her machine and the HUGE extension table her husband made for her.

I brought along the green fabric I scanned for the mini quilt but before I left the house I found some orange and black homespun fabrics.

I have had these for years!  I used them before to make stuffed pumpkins.
So I changed from the green assortment to the orange and black to make a mini star quilt.
Here it is in the works.  The homespun really stretches A LOT!  Especially ...
  • Another mini quilt design from Americana Queen Quilts

Yea!  A day off.  I am going to sew with my sister today.
This is another mini quilt I designed on EQ6 last night - even imported the fabrics choices for this one.  I purchased them a few years ago at a quilt show.  This will be my project for today.
MINI STAR QUILT - is 12" square; the star blocks are 3" each and the borders are 1.5".  There are nine different green fabrics in all.  I will have lots of fun making this...off to the Cutting Mat to start this mini!
I will post my progress tomorrow or ...
  • A Prim Pumpkin... from Americana Queen Quilts

It's already Thursday and I haven't done a whole lot of sewing this week.  :( SAD!
Tomorrow is a day off and I hope spend most of the day at the sewing table!
I did create a fun little Prim Pumpkin Pattern on EQ6...

Just might have to sew him into reality!  I don't have too many browns and orange scraps so I will have to get creative...or maybe just buy some.
There are a lot of Halloween projects in my TO DO pile...oh well...here comes another!  HAHA!

    Have a fun day sewing!

  • A crazy morning and a quilt top... from Americana Queen Quilts

Sunday is almost over and I am glad.  I usually post on Sunday mornings but things didn't go so well this morning.  Around 4:30am I was startled by a loud boom.  Jumped out of bed, heard people screaming to call the fire dept, and police.
It seems a very large tree fell two doors down from my house and crushed 2 parked cars and hit a house and yes there was fire but thankfully no one was hurt.  Of course it took down the power lines with it!  So, no electric, no blogging, and worse of all no ...
  • The Friendship Star Quilt from Americana Queen Quilts

This quilt top is from a class I taught at the store.  The Friendship Star Quilt.
I have to decide if I want to add another border to make it the size for a queen bed and what type of border???  Maybe a checker board or piano key will work.
The fabric is an assortment of Thimbleberries.
In addition, how ever will I quilt this one???

  • Even more on the tumbler...IT'S FINISHED from Americana Queen Quilts

I decided to stay up last night and finish the binding on the tumbler.
    So...it is completed!
It might just end up as a table topper.

It feels really good to finish something.  I have a couple (dozen - haha) more to finish!

  • More on my tumbler quilt... from Americana Queen Quilts

I finally decided how to finish my little tumbler quilt top.  After much thought I went back to my original plan to top stitch with a decorative blanket stitch in black.
What I like most about it is that it is perfectly NOT perfect and that makes me perfectly happy!
My not so perfect, perfect tumbler!

Here is a closer look with the backing I choose.

Now I have to decide on binding and how to hang it.
I'm thinking black or tan for the binding and tabs for hanging.

Since I am off work for a couple of ...
  • Monday Morning... from Americana Queen Quilts

I cannot believe that it is Monday.  The Island Shop Hop was lots of fun but I must admit that I was so busy working and tired at the end of each day I didn't get any, not even a little bit, of sewing done last week.
This week WILL BE DIFFERENT!  I miss my machine and the gentle hum that I find so comforting and MUST get back to it TONIGHT!  Friday is the second half of that Shadow Box Class and I need to assemble the rest of the blocks.  I did manage to cut out all ...
  • Island Shop Hop...FUN! from Americana Queen Quilts

Today was day one of the Island Shop Hop here on Long Island.  What FUN!!
Of course I didn't get to 'hop' because I was working but seeing all the 'hoppers' enjoying themselves was great.
The theme was "Holidays" so each of the 5 participating shops had to pick a holiday to represent.  Our store did Halloween.  Now being the huge Halloween fan that I am this was soooooooooo very much fun.  One of my co-workers is also a Halloween fan and she bought all her decorations in to set the theme.  The store looks GREAT!
    This should be ...
  • It's Sunday... from Americana Queen Quilts

Good Morning!  It looks like today will be a hot and humid one!  I'll be inside most of the day.
First there are Rank Promotions at my husbands Karate School to attend and
then it's off to a Dance Recital.
My sister's granddaughters will be performing...my Grand Nieces!  I don't know if you have ever been to a Dance Recital with the little ones performing but it is the greatest and cutest thing to watch.  They are just adorable.  They go to a wonderful dance studio, the same one my daughter and my nieces went ...
  • A fun little quilt! from Americana Queen Quilts

Tonight was our quild meeting and I usually submit a Block of the Month.  This month it was a red and white Lattice Block.  Well after I finished mine I had 8 little red and 8 little white triangles that were cut off the corner pieces.  I went to toss them and thought I should give them to my friend Barbara.
Then I thought I should make something with them.
So I sewed the 8 reds to the 8 white to get 8 little half square triangles.  Then I sewed them together to get 8 smaller quarter square triangles (1 ...
  • HAPPY 4th of JULY! from Americana Queen Quilts

Yes, this is one of my favorite times of the year...seeing all those beautiful American Flags flying high and blowing in the breeze!  For many years that sight has been one that brings tears to my eyes.  I don't know what it is about the American Flag and all it's glory that does this to me
    but it happens everytime!

I had a great week spending time with my grandson; playing, laughing, and hugging.
He is so cute and yes, I am partial!  :))
What a smile...and this profile - gets me everytime!  I love it!

    And, the ...
  • OFF TO MARYLAND...:)! from Americana Queen Quilts

Here it is Sunday again and this time I am heading to my daughter's house for a few days. My husband will take me out to brunch and then off to the airport! I hope the threat of rain doesn't delay the flight :)!

I will miss my husband but I'll be back on Thursday and he enjoys what he calls "peace and quiet"! Can you imagine that; he thinks I am noisy and talkative...WHAT?!?!

I will also miss my sewing machine but I know that my daughter will have her machine set up and ready to ...
  • BE MERRY from Americana Queen Quilts

I am really excited because the first month of my Block of the Month quilt starts tomorrow at the store.

The quilt is called "Be Merry" and it is from Bits and Pieces. Here is a photo of the top. I have not done any of the applique or the embellishments yet.
The wind was blowing (believe it or not) so it looks a little ruffled. But the breeze did feel good - it is hot today!

We are starting with Block 6 patterns in the first month and counting down to Block 1. Should be complete by November. The first ...
  • It's Sunday... from Americana Queen Quilts

I do look forward to Sunday, it is the 'weekend' for me since I work on a couple of Saturdays per month. It is a lovely day and it is Father's Day. I hope my husband enjoys the day, I know that I will because he is going to wash my car! That's what he said he wanted to do today when I asked him what he wanted...hey, go for it!

We will go out for breakfast around 11am (after he gets home from teaching his Karate classes) and then I will let him take control of ...
  • I FOUND IT! from Americana Queen Quilts

So, I started this BLOG at the end of 2009 (December 31 to be exact) and was able to post a couple of times but then I had a really hard time finding it again to post.  I was really bothered by this and was encouraged by a friend to BLOG again.  Well, I started another blog on live.com and have been posting for a few weeks there.  Wouldn't you know that right after I started that blog I stumpled on my blogspot.  Funny how that works.  So...here I am!  Back again.
    I think I will keep ...
  • Welcome 2010! from Americana Queen Quilts

I'm starting a Blog of my very own for the New Year! How exciting is this...well, for me that is.
I might be the only one who ever reads this but I do hope others will read and enjoy.
This will be for sharing all things sewing, crafting and quilting.
It's New Year's Eve and starting this Blog is sort of like a 'resolution' for me.
I work in a wonderful quilt shop...oh, the fabric. My co-workers and the customers are so great.
Everyone is creative in their own way which is so cool. We ...
