A Guest Blogger! Jennifer Todd- "Evergreen Quilting" in Tacoma, WA from A Passionate Quilter
A fellow quilting friend agreed to be a guest blogger and document her recent trip to Tacoma. She did an amazing job and her adventure is as follows... (Thanks Jennifer!!)
My visit to Evergreeen Quilting in Tacoma, Washington in late April was a treat.
The street was lined with trees in bloom, which was quite lovely. Pulling up to the plain storefront belied the colorful, contemporary fabrics inside. Quilting is BIG in Washington, I’ve learned.
The local Shop Hop has over 50 participating stores in the greater area. They even have a fabric line commemorating the event each year ... -
Reno Quilt Show June 2010 from A Passionate Quilter
The last weekend of June I attended this year's Quilting, Stitches and Crafts Expo at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, NV.
This show has been coming to Reno for the past few years, they offer tons of classes and lots of vendor booths for SHOPPING! I don't think I want to admit how much money I have spent there over the past few years!! :)
How wonderful for our community that we have such a terrific show to look forward to year after year. This year we even had Mark Lipinski as a featured teacher!

Tiny Ticker Tape Tutorial from A Passionate Quilter
Over at Sew Mama Sew, I discovered a really cute way to use up small scraps with a tutorial for making a Tiny Ticker Tape Quilt for dolls.
(It was actually based on a quilt from Crazy Mom Quilts- the original was a much larger version, as you can see in this link, and if I'm reading it correctly, Crazy Mom Quilts is actually the creator of this doll quilt as well.)
Since I have a 4 year old niece I decided to try my hand at making one!
Here's what it looked like before binding...

Fallon Quilt Show from A Passionate Quilter
A few weeks ago, my Mom and I got away to the Fallon Quilt Show in (where else?) Fallon, NV.
Only about an hour from Reno, we set off early in the morning and arrived just as the show was opening that Saturday morning. We weren't really sure what to expect since we had never been to this show before. The show is sponsored by the Nevada Quilt Guild, a guild representing the rural communities of Nevada. There is a LOT of wide open space in this state and only a few large cities (i.e. Reno, Las Vegas ... -
Hat Creek Camping Trip from A Passionate Quilter
We got away for a few days in May to a place we discovered last year. Hat Creek Resort has some really cute cabins with of all the essentials! No need to pack silverware or dishes. I know, I know, it's not REALLY camping. I mean we have electricity, a bed, couch, cable and a shower. So..."camping" it's not. However, it is out in the woods and there is a campfire out back and fly fishing for the hubby, so it's as close to camping as we get anymore!
I took my sewing machine and worked ... -

Finished the Denim Quilt! from A Passionate Quilter
So I finally finished clipping the jean quilt, then brushing, washing and drying and here are the finished results!
I love the way it turned out. I thought I liked it before I clipped it but I really like it now that it's been clipped and washed.
I've made this type of quilt in the past and this time I decided to "prep" the raw edges prior to washing and drying. I've noticed that sometimes these kind of quilts need to be washed several times to get the full fraying effect.
So, this time I "brushed" the ... -
Love the Denim! from A Passionate Quilter
So, I've been working on my own method for making a rag quilt with circles instead of squares. I've seen other people make quilts like this but have never seen a good method describing how to make one so I decided to come up with my own.
So far, I'm liking it!! :)
I used 4 charm square packs to make this one. It's pretty big and extra long. (It's nice when a quilt can cover you from head to feet!)
Notice it was almost impossible to take pictures without the dogs getting in the way ... -

Quilt shops may come and go but Windy Moon Quilts located in Reno, NV has a long tradition of providing quality service to its customers.
Mike and Sandy Sullivan purchased "the Moon" more than 20 years ago. As Sandy likes to say, "In my former life, I was a nurse". But with a love for sewing, Sandy made the decision to change careers and dive headfirst into the world of quilting.
After several local moves they finally made their permanent home in a repurposed bank building complete with a walk-in bank vault!

Workman Farms Quilt Shop in Fallon, NV from A Passionate Quilter
Workman Farms Quilt Shop- Fallon, NV
Open 7 days a week, 8am-6pmClosed Sundays (in Winter)
I first met Vickie in the outdoor nursery located next to the building which houses her quilt shop. Vickie Detomasi, the owner of Workman Farms, runs a Nursery/Quilt Shop. This may seem like an odd combination, however, the Workman Family has owned and "worked" this land for the past 45 years.
Originally, the family sold their homegrown fruits and vegetables on this location in a roadside stand. Over time the business developed and changed with the times and a nursery sprang up. Along ... -

The Uncommon Thread Quilt Shop- Fallon, NV from A Passionate Quilter
On a recent Saturday morning I sat down with Julie Lamb, owner of the Uncommon Thread Quilt Shop in Fallon, NV.
Fallon, NV
Fallon, located approximately 60 miles east of Reno, is home to the infamous "Top Gun" Naval Base. It is a relatively rural town, home to ranchers and farmers alike, many with families having owned and worked the land for multiple generations.
Five years ago, Julie, a chemist by trade, moved to Fallon when her husband relocated to a new job. At that time, Julie owned a quilt shop in Enterprise, OR. After exploring her new town, Julie ... -
Personalizing with Names from A Passionate Quilter
So, does anyone else try out a pattern or new technique and then want to do a bunch of those things until you're sick of them? That happens to me a LOT. I recently got into personalizing things with names.
Now, I've decided that to properly create letters that look good and have a lot of character I need a AccuQuilt Cutter. Probably not the GO version but the GIGANTIC, EXTRA HEAVY version. WHY? Well, I double checked and as of now, the GO cutter doesn't have any accompanying alphabets. AND, I really want to cut multiple ... -
Lots and lots of Circles!! from A Passionate Quilter
I decided to make a quilt that I've been wanting to make for a really long time. It's called a "Less Than Traditional" quilt or more commonly called "Cathedral Windows". Basically, you make a whole bunch of circles and once they're assembled the quilt is done.
Here is my box of circles. They're a random assortment of Asian fabrics all backed with a purple batik.
Notice the white basting stitch around the edge of each one? You sew the fabrics together, (right sides matching) and then turn the circles right side out. Then you smooth the ... -
New Storage for my Quilting Room! from A Passionate Quilter
One of my last quilts was a scrappy string quilt. I had a ball making this and I love that it uses up all of those small scraps left over from other projects.
Here's a picture of this quilt in progress...
Motivated by this project, I started collecting strips or "strings" regularly. For a while, I was just storing them (by color) in large ziploc bags. Not ideal but it worked. Then, I started reading the Quiltville website and enjoyed reading about all of the creative ways she uses leftover pieces of fabric. So, now, not only do I ...

Classes at the Long Beach Quilt Show 2009 from A Passionate Quilter
Last summer my Mom and I went to the Long Beach Quilt show. What a great show! It's SO big. It was impossible to see all of the booths and still walk through the quilt exhibits and also take classes in just a few day's time!!
I took a Kaleidoscope class from Marti Mitchell. This was the first time I have taken a class at a show and I had a great time!
I still haven't actually made one of these quilts but she showed us some very inspirational examples. Here's an example...Marti is peeking ...
