  • Fall is Here from A Hug Delights

Silage cutting always signals the start of fall here.  As you can see the hot dry conditions have taken a toll on the corn in some fields.  This is silage corn that was planted to have more stalks and leaves and not so much ears of corn.

In low places where the moisture stayed the corn is still green.  The tractor pulls the cutter, which chops the corn up into small pieces and shoots it back into the dump wagon.  The green and brown will mix together in the wagon.

When the wagon is full it is dumped into a ...
  • Where does the time go? from A Hug Delights

What a crazy couple weeks!  Of course, being gone and coming home and getting sick have made things all pile up.  I am knee deep in cucumbers and tomatoes, which is a good thing.  You can see by the header the hot temperatures and high winds have dried the corn out badly.   I was all set for a grateful post about good health on Monday and it's Friday already.  Wow!   So................................

I have been fortunate since retirement to not be exposed to the daily germs of working with the public.  Although I've never been a sickly person, I ...
  • Say a Prayer from A Hug Delights

Please say a little prayer for Rocco. I know alot of you are animal lovers who are my blog friends.  Yesterday Rocco had a bad encounter with DH's cousin's dog.  Rocco's little eye is in bad shape.  We learned alot about veterinarians and small animals yesterday too.  We are asking for prayers for Rocco's eye and eye sight.  I am so thankful that it wasn't worse.  It could have been much worse.......................

    Thanks so much, friends.  Hugs

A box of tissues has been my best friend today.   Hopefully I'll be feeling better tomorrow.  :)

  • Home Sweet Home from A Hug Delights

As Dorothy on the Wizard of Oz knew there is  no place like home.  I am home from a wonderful trip to visit Jen in Pensacola, FL.  We had a great time with lots of girl time.  I got my hair colored and cut, a facial and a pedicure.  Jen cooked and we ate out at places that DH would never go.  We rented movies and we went to the movie "Eat, Pray, Love".  I slept in and I stayed up late.  We hung out and we did yard work.  We spent one whole day shopping until my feet were ...

  • Giveaway and Free Motion Quilt Along from A Hug Delights

Christina is having a wonderful giveaway and a quilt along.  I said no more quilt alongs until I get my pinwheel and jelly roll quilts done.  This quilt along is just what I need to get the courage to quilt them.  Check out Christina's blog, she's a new one for me.
  • Annie and Packing from A Hug Delights

I finished my Annie & Friends block last night.  I am only using stash, of course.  Those of you doing the blocks may notice I made a little change on mine.  I just wasn't into the pineapple on the original pattern--no offense Kaaren.  I like the way it turned out.

Short evenings make for little stitching time.  John Deere and I have been going steady.  We are making hay for winter feed.  DH also baled all the oat straw from the combining.   I am either running the hay bind or the rake.   We have been eating supper around 8-9 pm ...
  • Safari Star from A Hug Delights

I named my quilt "Safari Star".  It is based on Ethan's Star in the March/April '04 Quiltmaker magazine designed by Caroline Reardon.  I did some fussy cutting and added the yellow border.  I thought it needed the yellow border to set off the star from the multicolor border.  Of course, that made the whole quilt over 42", so now I need to piece the backing.  Next step--I need to go shopping in my stash for a flannel backing.  The flannel tub is in the closet, so this may take a bit of doing.  lol

    This was a quick ...
  • Haying, Combining and Playing from A Hug Delights

I went shopping in my new organized stash.  I had big plans to play.  Yesterday's plan was amended when the neighbor stopped for coffee.  There went DH's nap and my playtime.  We had a nice visit and some plans were made for this coming week.  This morning I raked and DH baled the last of the 2nd cutting of alfalfa.  We haven't had two cuttings of alfalfa for many years, so it's nice to get extra bales for winter feeding.  This afternoon they are combining enough oats to fill one large grain bin.  DH will bale ...
  • The writing's on the wall from A Hug Delights

I am close to becoming a hoarder.  :(    Have you seen that show?  I just caught part of Oprah's show on Friday concerning hoarding.  Wow.  I'm not even close to that bad, but in the fabric/quilt stuff department I have way more than my share.   I think my main problem has been when I don't actually have the time to sew I buy what I wish I could sew.  I really need to make good use of the things I have.  I'm so frugal in other areas of my spending.   It's kind of crazy!  I ...
  • It has to get worse, before it can get better............. from A Hug Delights

I tore the bedroom apart that doubles as my "sewing studio".  It has just been getting in worse and worse condition.  Things have become so unorganized that I don't even know what I have and don't have anymore.   I decided I can no longer stand it!!  I bought a book shelf and a shelf unit about a month ago.  I had the time to assemble them yesterday.  Today  I'm rearranging and organizing.   I'm looking forward to having a space to sew in that actually makes me feel like making something.  It will also help me overcome ...
  • Day Interrupted/Kittens from A Hug Delights

This was the "big" sewing project of the day.  One of the safety straps for the boat needed reinforcing.  DH had his favorite pants that needed patching too.  The jeans already have been patched on the knees and backside, but he ripped the crotch out.  They don't look too great, but I bet he wears them.  I think they were made with faulty denim and should have been sent back to the maker.  I took time to clean and oil Bernie after I was done.  She sure sounds smoother now.  I think I was overdue on the maintenance!

    I ...
  • Making Progress from A Hug Delights

I finished the last two Jelly Roll Sampler blocks. Konda will be posting finishing instructions sometime today.  I'm just glad to get the blocks done.  It's been fun making the different blocks from a jelly roll every two weeks.  I've also enjoyed meeting new designers and checking out their blogs.

I am still deciding on borders or no borders for my Pinwheel quilt.  I have the sashing all finished on it.  Rachel didn't do borders on hers, but I'm still deciding.  I think that is what makes me such a pokey quilter.  I have a ...
  • Book winner/Prep Day from A Hug Delights

The winner of the book "Whiter Than Snow by Sandra Dallas is Moneik.  The random number generator picked number 1.  I won't have to send the book very far.  Moneik is from South Dakota too.  I hope she has time to read it.  She is a busy lady.  Enjoy, Moneik!

I made up my mind that August is going to be a productive quilting month. I spent every spare moment yesterday prepping BOM blocks. I did most of the cutting and tracing on dining room/kitchen table.  It was the coolest place to do it.  We are having a ...
  • Christmas in July from A Hug Delights

I made a quick trip to a small town about 25 miles NE from the ranch for extra lunch supplies.  The combiners are coming to try our spring wheat.  I chose this town for shopping because the "Quilter's Corner" is having a 3 day Christmas in July event.  It is 98 degrees and the humidity feels like 98 too.  They were all decorated for Christmas, playing Christmas music and wearing Christmas aprons.  Darn-no camera.
There were lots of new Christmas fabrics, samples and kits.  Of course, I needed some things.  Isn't it our duty to support these small ...
  • Book giveaway from A Hug Delights

I won the book "Whiter Than Snow"  by Sandra Dallas from Sharon's giveaway on her blog.   Thank you Sharon!!  It was a very nice summer read.  It's the kind of book you wish were longer, because you enjoy the characters so much.  If you would like to read the book, please leave a comment.  I will draw a name on Monday, August 2nd and send you the book to read.

I can't believe how fast last week went! It rained on Friday night, so we spent Saturday and Sunday at the river.  Michelle had the week-end off ...
  • Too Much Flash? from A Hug Delights

They are just so cute.  Sweet little faces.  I can't help myself.

The kittens are 1 week old and their eyes are just opening.  Their little tummies are just so chubby.  I just can't resist giving them a little one finger stroke.  Ok, I've been picking them up alittle too.  They are just so adorable.

Peanut said that's enough.  In the night she moved them into the bedroom (computer room) closet.  I have to admit----that closet is a wreck.  I have been meaning to clean it out, but it's mostly Jen's "stuff".  Jen lives ...
  • Rollin on the River from A Hug Delights

We took the boat motor for a tune-up last week.  We took time yesterday to go and get it.  Michelle worked 6-2 at the living center, so she cruised with us.  BF Jared joined us later too.  This is the capitol building as seen from the Missouri River.  It was a gorgeous day on the water.  It has been a hot week of 100 degree days, but Sunday was 82 F with a light breeze.  The motor purrs now.

The bridge divides Pierre and Ft. Pierre--also Central time from Mountain time.

Rocco enjoys boating too.   We left the boat in ...
  • Playing on the Deck from A Hug Delights

  • Mother and Babies Doing Well from A Hug Delights

The babies have arrived.  Peanut is such a good mom too.  Isn't this just the sweetest photo?

Thank you everyone for your nice comments.  I'm so glad no one "hated on" me for not getting her spayed in time.  It's a little different on the farm where cats are working animals too.  I totally understand the over population of pets in the cities.  I don't want over population in my house either!  Two cats and a dog were way more than I planned on already.

Now to the cute part...........Peanut had 5 little guys.  Three ...
