Picture the scene at the end of the party. Empty bottles, missing silverware, dirty dishes, stained carpet, mess everywhere and you don't even know where to begin.

Half Made Blocks |
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge feels like a party and it IS a lot of fun...till you get to this time of the year.
Now the party is coming to a close and there are blocks everywhere. How many blocks? Did I lose/misplace some? I was going to redo that one but then forgot. Where do I even start?

I’m so grateful to both, for all their hard work in putting these kits together. In addition, both have thrown in discounts to anyone purchasing the kits. Back to normal - what exactly does that mean these days? We're now able to go to the movies, eat indoors at restaurants, meet in small groups, and a whole lot more. But wearing masks and social distancing is probably with us for a long, long time.
I'm OK with that. I think, as a society, we're a whole lot healthier because of it. I haven't heard many sneezes or hacking coughs. People are either too afraid to do either in public, or they are just healthier!! Which goes to show that if you're sick, you ...
But first I have to begin with this video sent to me by my friend John Kelly. He also sent this to my mother, just in case you were wondering, and for those of you asking why I’m not posting something from her, that’s why. You know I love you, Mom. Musicians from all over… Continue reading A New Design Unveiled!

Thanks Mom! ❤️ (Don’t know what I’d do without this woman…) Can we all just marvel at the sheer… Continue reading Sh*t my Mother Sends Me

I had a load of fun at the retreat. But I have to admit that it is great to be home! The girls, of course, was quite excited to see me and now time to get back to my routine. I have a load of things that have to be done this week, so it's going to be all hands on deck. Well - just my two hands, but I think you knew that!
Ooops -- I didn't find my flower photo this morning, but here are some fungi that I saw on my morning walk. I took a trip ...
OK -- so I'm totally spoiled and totally loving it. But yes - we're back at Fireside Retreat. With the whole pandemic thing going on, we had to move some dates around, and well, this retreat and the last one ended up being very close to each other. Couldn't be helped and well - I don't care.
We're a much smaller group than usual, so we're all spaced out in the house, and loving the extra room.
I wasn't sure if I was going to get everything into the car. Not that I had a lot ...
Yesterday was crazy! I sat at my computer for TWELVE hours of Schoolhouse presentations. OK -- that's not exactly true, I did get a LOT of stuff done. Wait for that. But in case you have no idea what I'm talking about, Schoolhouse is usually a one-day event that takes place at Quilt Market in the spring and in the fall. Quilt Market is a trade show for the quilt industry and not open to the public. They set up the virtual Schoolhouse on Zoom and over two days.

A couple of weeks ago I watched Tula Pink's video launching her new black and white fabric line - Linework (It won't be available for months yet, so don't panic). Towards the end of the video Tula showed two Zip It Up! bags she had made. I thought they looked amazing so I dashed off and ordered the pattern from the Ribbon Rose in Auckland.
Here's a link to Tula's video. The bags appear at about 22 minutes in.
Of course we can't get Linework yet, so I ordered some half yards of Tula's ... read more
Slow and steady - everything gets done when you work slow and steady. And a bit of focus helps a whole lot.
I'm hosting two sew-along groups and I send out the homework on a Friday. Fortunately and through NO planning on my part, the Fridays have alternated. I send the homework every second Friday to one group and the first Friday of the month to the other group. I'm sure at some point that those dates will end up in the same week, but that's OK. What I'm impressing myself to death with is that I ...
Have you heard of Kantha quilting?
My online friend Shruti Dandekar says:
Kantha is one of the traditional styles of handwork popular in Eastern India - especially the state of West Bengal - and Bangladesh. It is used to either add embroidery to fabric or to quilt.
You can read more about it here in Wikipedia.
This month Aurifil have asked some of the Aurifil Artisans to experiment with Kantha quilting and Kaffe Fassett fabrics.
I've decided to use my variegated 12wt Aurifil threads on this fat quarter of Kaffe's fabric called Busy Lizzy. I'm quilting the whole fat ... read more

I think I have finally wrapped up all of my Christmas sewing for 2019! I can't reveal everything I made just yet, but the two recipients of these gifts don't read my blog. Almost everyone I know has a zipper pouch (Pattern by Noodlehead) and here are the latest ones I made this week.
These are such handy little pouches!
There was some in the car embroidery done this week as well.
Hopefully, a second colour will be added by next week!

I came across a pair of orange flip-flops with nylon mesh fibers. When I slipped my foot into them the fibers were pressed and I felt like I stepped on a cushion. It was cloud heaven for my feet at a bargain price of $3.99. Naturally I bought a second pair and took it to my mom on my next visit to India.
Oh yes, I have a finish! |

It's a challenge sometimes to post about something the day after it occurs. Too much stuff happens at my house to stay totally on top of it.
I can't wait to share with you what happened yesterday. It was a scheduled CLEANUP day and oh boy - I'm literally dancing!!! But that's for tomorrow.
Today, it's all about our Monday sewing and a few other things thrown in.
Since it was our last Monday sewing of the year, we had a pot luck lunch. I LOVE pot lucks! I'm always amazed at out how it ...
At one point, not long ago, I said that I wanted to get all those scraps (destined for pet mats) cleaned up by the end of the year. I'm not sure if that's exactly what I said, but I would like to get rid of them. End of the year? I'm trying.
To backtrack - several years ago, I decided it was a good idea to make pet mats using up the scraps from cutting and trims squares - not HUGE hunks of fabric as some are want to believe! Simple scraps. I put a plea out to the ...

Travel days - you never know if the day will go smoothly or if there'll be a few bumps along the way. I had been told that the Northern airports are somewhat forgiving about luggage, but perhaps that's only if you're a local.
I arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare. Now keep in mind, the Timmins airport is small. As I was approaching the Air Canada desk with my huge suitcase, my carryon, and my backpack, the attendant instructed me - from a distance that all checked luggage had to be x-rayed. WHOA! What's ...
