Caravan Safari from Romany Quilting

Robin and I are leading a Caravan Safari with our caravan club friends through coastal Wairarapa.  Taking them along roads not traveled, and places yet to be explored.   The drive took us through some pretty farmland, with plenty of cattle and sheep grazing contentedly.   Our first stop was Alfredton Domain which has overnight free parking.

Alfredton was formed in 1868 and was part of the Small Farms Association.  These days it is a tiny village with a school and a church.  The Domain is an attractive place with ewes and small lambs everywhere.  The calls of our beautiful native bird ...

Whanganui and Back from Romany Quilting

Last weekend we had a caravan trip away to Whanganui, stopping overnight on the way at Duddings Lake.  What a pretty, peaceful place this was.  We decided to camp off power so left the crowded motor camp behind and parked up around the lake on a large grassy area.  There were several caravans and campervans parked here, but plenty of room  between is all.

Our lakeside camping spot

The lake must be very healthy as we noticed plenty of bird life, and the frogs serenaded us in the evening.  How often do we hear frogs, we commented.  Their calls are ...

Another Trip Away from Romany Quilting

Pre Christmas is such a busy time, isn't it.  We had another caravan trip planned, about 8 days this time, to attend the ICA Christmas Rally, up at Te Aroha and Matamata, quite a drive away for us.  Most of the ICA members live much further north than us, so depending on where the rally is being held, we generally have the longest drive.  Our first stop was at Turangi, a well known fishing area.  There was a tap  on the door, and a lady asked us if we would be interested in a trout fillet.  My goodness, of ...

Cruising about from Romany Quilting

Something ticked off the Bucket List, and what an adventure we had.  We are currently in Te Anau (which means place of swirling waters) and recently enjoyed a Coach/Cruise/Underwater Observatory combo to Milford Sound and through the Homer Tunnel.  Our adventure started in Te Anau when we boarded the big red coach – with several photo stops along the way.  The scenery here is spectacular. The very pretty Mirror Lakes were just off the roadside, and it was a nice easy 5 minute  boardwalk there and back.  People everywhere, we certainly weren’t the only bus in the car ...

Waterfall Quilt by Judy - a Double Size! from Busy Hands Quilts

Today I'm sharing a stunning Waterfall quilt made by Judy in purples and greens!  She made this quilt for her granddaughter and cut it down to a Double from the Queen size.  Isn't it beautiful?!?

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes the Throw and Queen sizes and uses hues from two colorways to create an ombre effect.  The unique setting triangles carry the design clear out to the edges of the quilt.  Cutting off the edge of the quilt to make the quilt smaller does change the design, but as you can see, is still very effective.

Waterfall Quilts by Laura for Her Grandsons! from Busy Hands Quilts

Laura made two Waterfall quilts for two grandsons, and they turned out beautifully!  Shades of teal up one side and shades of blue down the other side, finished off with circular quilting reflecting water.  Laura enlarged the quilts by adding a border around the edge.  They are lovely gifts for her grandsons!

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Queen - because that's what worked out mathematically without borders or a ginormous quilt (119" wide!!).  Some quilters have increased quilt sizes by changing the edge blocks on one side to whole blocks and adding a row of half ...

Waterfall quilt kits are finally ready!  You asked for 'em, you've got 'em!

This is the first time dipping our feet into curating fabrics for quilt kits, and we're super excited to see the process come full circle; from purchasing fabrics, to the excitement of receiving the boxes, to cutting and packaging the fabric, all culminating in quilt kits ready for sale.  We're a little nervous, too!  We're just a small cottage business, my husband and I, so there are a very limited number of quilt kits available, so we encourage you to get yours right ...

This Waterfall quilt is made by Sally from fabrics in her stash.  She then hand quilted it.  What an amazing feat!  Didn't it turn out beautifully?!?

Sally increased the quilt size from a Throw to what appears to be a Twin by changing up the number and layout of some of the blocks.

Waterfall Throw Quilt in Black and Red! from Busy Hands Quilts

Today I'm sharing a Waterfall quilt that I made last year.  Waterfall was released last year, and this was the quilt I sewed up to test the pattern.

Waterfall is a unique design that uses the traditional log cabin block with pieced setting triangles that echo the design clear out to the edge on all four sides, as well as the four corners.

Fabric Selection

This black and red version of Waterfall is made with fabrics from my stash.  I looked through my fabrics for two colorways that had ...

Waterfall Queen Quilt by Karen! from Busy Hands Quilts

Isn't this a beautiful quilt?!?  This is a Waterfall quilt made by Karen in blues and greens in the Queen size.  She did a beautiful job!

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Queen - because other sizes do not work out mathematically.  If you'd like to make the King size, I recommend adding borders, because adding another row of blocks makes a quilt over 130".

Waterfall Throw Quilt by Shelley! from Busy Hands Quilts

I love seeing your quilts in my patterns; they brighten my day!  This is Waterfall in the Throw size made by Shelley.  She altered the design by leaving off the pieced setting triangles and placing a single fabric in their place.  The fabric is Moda Grunge.  It turned out beautifully!

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes Throw and Queen sizes because those two worked out mathematically.  The King size would be 130" wide, so it's not included in the pattern.  The pattern includes the names and numbers of the Moda Grunge fabrics shown in the cover quilt.

Waterfall Throw Quilt Kit in Abalone Batiks! from Busy Hands Quilts

My Waterfall quilt pattern has been kitted by Connecting Threads in their brand-new Abalone Batiks fabric collection!

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Queen - because those are the only sizes where the math worked out to actual quilt sizes.  You could add a border to the Queen size to make it a King.

The Abalone Batiks fabric collection is a beautiful collection of purples, blues, and greens.  You can see the entire collection right here.

All pictures credit Connecting Threads.

Stitching and Holiday Snaps from Romany Quilting

Have to admit that only a little stitching has been happening, but every bit helps, doesn’t it.  Packed away in my stitching bag is a set of 12 pre-printed small Christmas panels, designed by Bonnie Sullivan, my new hand stitching project.  This was a gift from my penfriend Carol from South Dakota, and has some felt pieces attached.  Here I am working on block number one.
