Hi! I hope that you're enjoying the rest of the fall.
read moreOur second pattern release this fall is the Apothecary Quilt. This cute little wall hanging originally debuted in the Sept/Oct 2020 issue of McCall’s Quilting. They changed up the shape of the jars a little bit in their version of the pattern. Whether this was an accident or on purpose, we don’t know. We have […]
read moreIt’s always exciting to find a quilt displayed – sometimes when you least expect it. This was the case when we attended an appointment for Robin, it was an Anzac wall hanging. For those who don't know, Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, and we have a public holiday on April 25th to remember the fallen soldiers from both countries. Upon enquiry, I found out that this wall hanging was stitched by the wife of one of the orthopedic surgeons who consult here. One of my aims is to make an Anzac quilt one day soon ...
read moreOur weekend was spent in Woodville (about 90km each way). We were invited to attend a caravan rally (with a different group) and it was nice to catch up with several couples we had met up with over the years at different rallies. One of the highlights for me was the craft display. Although I didn't know it was happening ahead of time I had several hand stitched items in the caravan, so I could take part too. There obviously is a lot of talent in this group, with everything from knitting, quilts, toys, hardanger on show. I certainly ...
read moreI know it’s been Autumn here for a wee while, but I’ve only just got around to changing my wall hangings in the sitting room. Before we know it Winter will be nipping at our heels and it will be time for a change again. But in the meantime, here is Autumn – nothing new to see, but its always nice to ring the changes.
Autumn quilts out again
You may remember that last time we were up at my daughter’s home, she had handed granddaughter Megan’s quilts to her to look after. I've just received ...
read moreLearn how to hang a quilt on a wall with a sleeve sewn to its back. It is super easy to make – no need to turn a long fabric tube inside out.
I have many friends who do not like to make hanging sleeves for a quilt. Instead, they hang their quilts using other methods or tools. So, before showing you how I make these sleeves, let’s explore some of the options to hang quilts on the wall.
Thumbtacks and shower curtain rings
I do this all the time with transparent thumbtacks and cool-looking shower curtain rings. It is ...

Check out a couple of projects I made with it: nope, I am not making money on this post – just showing you a product that I liked working with and that can be a great way to tackle projects that are a bit more involved to make when using traditional curved piecing.
I made this quilt a few summers ago using a Moda Fabrics charm pack (5″ squares) and yardage of a light cream fabric for the background. I love ...

I rather like long, skinny wall hangings, but have never had anywhere in any of our ten homes to hang even one! Perhaps I should make three and hang them side by side!

read moreBack in early November, I shared a quick project I was making for a neighbor who wanted a gift for a friend who keeps bees.
One of my neighbors came over the other day to buy one of my quilts and she asked me if I could custom make her a wallhanging for a Beekeeper friend.
I disappeared for a minute and quickly came back to show her a Bee panel I had stashed away.
She loved it!

He Leads Me Quilt 1
Quilts using panels are super fast to make and these two designs I created for Blank Quilting‘s He Leads Me fabric collection are no exception. They convey the spirit of the Thanksgiving season with a soothing palette with dusty corals, teals, and soft ivory that will likely not clash with the colors you already have in your home.
Some of us feel intimidated by fabric panels. However, they can add a lot ...
read moreI hope that you're having a lovely fall (except those of you on the other side of the world who are enjoying Spring!) The leaves are slowly changing here in Ottawa but all of the rain is pulling them down quickly!
I didn't expect to be writing this post today but Muv is very busy getting ready for her daughter's wedding this weekend. I can't imagine how that must feel. So welcome to week 351 of Free Motion Mavericks. I'm still planning the FMQ design for my son's quilt, so here is a look ...
read moreDo you like Christmas quilting for decoration or gifts? Here is an idea to turn the blocks you have already made into a finished project!
You saw this quilt before it was quilted and bound (click here for the post), where I worked with 12″ blocks I had made to test quilt patterns. It has become part of my work process: test patterns using similar fabrics so that, one day, I can turn those blocks into a quilt.
It reminds me of the “leaders and enders” process, where you begin and end chain-piecing with scraps of fabrics that you then ...

“Holiday Cheer” was just published in the November 2021 issue of the American Quilter magazine. I love this photograph so much! It provides the perfect setting for this bold, geometric design. And the colors!!!
The quilt measures 63-1/2″ x 63-1/2″ and ...

When Kelly asked me whether I'd like to participate in the Blog Hop to promote her new book - Scrappy Improv Quilting, I had a tough choice to make.
No, not making the project. That was fun and easy :-) Choosing just one from so many lovely projects in the book - that was a challenge. Once I picked out the design, I knew I had to make it my own. I had to make it brighter :-)
Birds of a Feather, by Kelly Young |
I chose a low volume white/off-white background with bright red birds!!!
