Completed Mission from Art In Search

Since I came back from teaching the watercolor workshop, I went full tilt making the Valentine cards that I make every year. I make about 75 and I try to have each one a litttle different because I am not a factory and every recipient is a different individual. As of this morning, all are in the mail. I consider this a win as my Valentine bouquet is still holding up so I am not too late.

The cards started with widths of heavy weight interfacting cut a 3 1//2" and soaked in the sink.
     Then I drew a ...

Hugs and Kisses from Moda Lissa

Hugs and Kisses, X’s and O’s just another reason to start a quilt. What is it about Valentine’s Day that makes me want to start another quilt? Duh, as I type this I realize what a silly question that is. I always want to start anther quilt regardless of the day.I am knee deep in Quilt-Alongs, Moda Blockhead’s, samples for work and a few overdue baby gifts but I stumbled on my block from the Blockheads 3 series and remembered I had always wanted to make this as an overall quilt.

I was going to ...

New Releases Birds And Valentines from Kitty and Me Designs

Valentine's Day is just around the corner.  I've worked up a new set of ornaments in the "Crazy" series.  These are worked with traditional Blackwork patterns coupled with bands of pretty pink hearts and flowers.  Kreinik #4 braid gives them sparkle.  Worked on 14 count white Perforated Paper from Wichelt, these designs can also be used as bookmarks or magnets.

With Spring coming, I'm looking forward to all the colorful birds that arrive with it!  My Seasonal Bird Borders are perfect for towels or tablerunners.

I also have 2 scripture designs featuring pretty birds.  First, Song Of ...

V day quilts and music from Not Afraid of Color

every year since I married I make a Valentine quilt. Some years they are bed sized, some time small like this one. I actually had to make it in three days, oops. I started with my box of watercolor squares 2" and multi colored.

I just sewed them together... and then decided to finish the edges, using piping and a turned seam. I had some red piping the right size in my scrap box, and glue basted it in place

trimmed, and sewed the backing to this using the zipper foot and going slowly. Leaving a small space to turn ...

Valentine crazies from Art In Search

I have missed posting because of overload in my mind and studio. I have more ideas and plans than cranial space and 24 hour space. If only I did not have to sleep. Actually, I need more sleep as I have been waking up after 4 hours and unable to meaning I am a zombie by 3 pm.
Tomorrow is Valentines Day and I am relieved I could get all the cards made and sent out. There is always a point I don't think I will make it. What seems like a good idea to make ends up being ...

Signed, sealed and delivered from Art In Search

I can only hope everyone I mailed a Valentine card to, received it. I know Maureen would not yet as New Zealand is far from Buffalo, NY.

Every year I fear I won't come up with an idea that I can make multiples of without repeating each card exactly. This year I found some Valentine fabric at Joanns that simplified things. I was able to fussy cut foil stamped hearts, attach them to purple batik with Superior Twist thread (sews like a dream) using felt as backing and glue to pre-scored cardstock. It took awhile and I sewed most ...

I found James Preller's Valentine to the Earth and loved it.  (James Preller is an American writer of children's books including Bystander, Six Innings, and the Jigsaw Jones Mysteries.   Wikipedia

In this current world of bad news, do you look for positive news to cheer you up?  Positive news is out there, but doesn't get a lot of attention in the midst of all the depressing news and events.  I need hopeful.  Sometimes desperately.  When depression and/or anxiety threaten to overwhelm me, a few "good news" items can perk me back up.  A friend posted the ...

V-day and I love a hexie! from Not Afraid of Color

Happy V-day!
I'm going to tell you what I learned making this year's valentine quilt but let me start with a little story....

I make a Valentine quilt every year since our marriage.
One year I didn't finish and my husband cautiously asked if that meant something.
LOL! Yes it meant I lost my way somehow in the finishing.
I've been going through my UFO boxes, some projects go back to my quilting beginning in 1984!
Here was the old V-day quilt, all crinkly and buckling from an overabundance of quilting, circa early 2000's
step ...

Valentines times 54 plus one heart from Art In Search

Every year I make Valentines cards. I try to increase the recipients, but it gets harder every year. It is my gift to the people I know and love.  I love to make them, but hard to produce so many. Maybe because I feel each one has to be unique and stitched with a lot of variety. I used to silk screen them, but gave up silk screening to focus on quilting.
I had an idea in my head, so I started sewing about 18 x 21 pieces of made fabric. I used white felt as the base and did ...

Remembering All The Little Things from Mountain Quiltworks

I have let my blog side away in lieu of posting photos and updates over on Instagram. For me, it takes less time, and is a faster way to document my quilting journey. Do you follow over there? If not, head over to @mountainquiltworks. I'd love to have you join the party! But for a little eye candy today, this is what I have been up to most recently:  I finished this up in November! But
