In My Dreams from Quarter-Inch Capers

I mostly don’t remember my dreams, and when I do, they are pretty vague. Occasionally, I have a really vivid dream, and last night I dreamed I had finished piecing my Two-Step quilt. I cut the borders a few days ago, and laid it all on my office chair last night so I would remember to work on it today, and I guess it was on my mind when I went to bed. I was pretty surprised, and a little confused, when I walked into the breakfast area this morning and saw this:

Yep, all folded up and just ...

February from Quarter-Inch Capers

Oh my, it’s cold. This is the third day of temps in the 30’s. I know it gets colder other places, but I live in South Texas, for heaven’s sake. I’m on the couch right now, and the dogs are all over me. Im pretty sure they’re cold too—and they have fur coats!

The APQS UFO number for February was drawn over the weekend.

My number 6 for piecing is Wistful. I didn’t finish it last year because I didn’t have all the pieces. I still haven’t found them, so I ...

A Little Progress on This and That from Grandma's Red Needle

'Nina' returned home Monday! Nothing wrong, just a good cleaning. She's happy now, I can hear it!  A lot of dust accumulated of course, after the last service, about 5 years ago. (Shame on me for not doing it earlier! Have to improve on that!)

While 'Nina' has been at the Spa, no sewing has been done of course since I don't have a spare machine. The last days I've made a couple of blue blocks, that will be for the Saturday RSC post.

I enjoy working on 'Over the River...' stitchery. It took some stitches before ...

January UFO Goals from Quarter-Inch Capers

The January Number is 3.

I have a list for quilting and a list for piecing. I actually started a third list for kits I haven’t started, but I’m not sure if I want to go there or not. Most of the kits can’t be finished in a month, so I would just be creating another UFO, but they are essentially UFO’s now, so I can’t decide what is the best strategy.

Anyway, my number 3 for quilting is the Keyhole quilt.

It’s a good candidate for finishing since I have a backing fabric ...

A Finish and Labels from Quarter-Inch Capers

I finished my December UFO before the year ended…..the Scrappy Trips I started on the 29th.

I like it a lot. I had intentions of donating it or gifting it. Hmmm, maybe I will keep it a little while and rethink that idea. I have made several, and some I have liked, and others not so much. I think I am partial to all the red in this one. I used red for the back, and the same for the binding.

I was able to use one of my 2022 labels, so that was good. These are printed on ...

Scrappy Trips from Quarter-Inch Capers

I was reviewing my 2022 UFO list yesterday and noticed I hadn't done anything with the December entry.

Another Scrappy Trips quilt......I have made several because they are great for using up oddball 2-1/2" strips.

The good thing is that I am in between projects for the next few days; the bad thing is that I don't have a back made for it. I pulled out a bolt of dark red....it's 45" width, so I had to piece it to get a back that is big enough. I little while later, I had it ...

Keyhole Quilt from Quarter-Inch Capers

I finally got this top done.

I took more time with this than I should have…..I was trying to get a border that I was satisfied with, and of course, I wanted it big enough to increase the size. This was a deviation from the original pattern, but you know the saying, “Finished is better than perfect.” And, at this point, I knew I just wanted to get the borders on and move one. It has been moved to the “ready to be quilted” stack, and will most likely go on my 2023 UFO list.

I have a purple ...

What I’ve Been Working On from Quarter-Inch Capers

I finished the smaller cowboy quilt…..forgot to take pictures, but I was happy to be finished. I will be able to get a picture today if I remember.

I took some time to review my 2022 goal progress and decided to go ahead and do something with the keyhole quilt. This is where I was:

I couldn’t locate the extra jelly roll pieces for the border….it should look like this:

I found some of the extra pieces, but my quick calculations let me know it wasn’t going to be enough. I decided to just go ahead ...

Finishing Other People's UFO's from The Cozy Quilter

Sometimes, we quilters have UFO's--unfinished projects that seem to just take up space in our sewing rooms that we just don't feel motivated to get them to the finish line.  The quilt below was given to me by another quilter along with the backing fabric, probably over a year ago...long enough for me to forget who gave it to me to finish! I was asked to quilt and bind it and then give it to the Chemo Unit at the hospital for an adult chemo patient.  Just before last weekend's Oxford Quilt Guild retreat, I found ...

November Goals from Sew........This Is My Blog

I've done well this year getting things checked off my 2022 "To Do" List but not so great at finishing things on the "UFO" List.  I have three donation quilts along with the backings and bindings made and ready to be finished.  One is from last year, so it needs to be done first.  I found the cutest little safari animals online last year, traced them onto unbleached muslin, and embroidered them, but that's as far as I got.  That's what happens when I just have to have some handwork to keep busy.  Things end up on ...

October Goals from Quarter-Inch Capers

Goodbye September. I’m not sure where you went, but October is here now. The APQS UFO number for October:

My number 5 for quilting is Prairie Flowers.

It’s another one that I don’t have a backing for. I also don’t know what I did with the orange fabric I had for the binding, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. As for the backing, I think I will go to the quilt shop and treat myself to a nice piece of 108” fabric.

My number 5 for piecing is the ...

Another Finish from Quarter-Inch Capers

Oh happy day! I got the binding done on Candy Land!

The binding matches the back—I wasn’t able to match the solid teal on the border. I’ve had it several years and can’t remember where I originally bought it. This was my June UFO, so it was about time I got it done.

Let’s see…what else? My friend Alan is in the hospital with some kind of weird infection. I finally made it by to visit with him today. He is on antibiotics via IV, so not sure when he will be able to ...

August Goal Progress from Quarter-Inch Capers

My August quilting goals was Totally Tulips.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the backing fabric I bought for it, and since it matches the border, I didn't want to use something else. I decided to just sub in another quilt that I knew I had backing for, and here is the finish:

This is the Shout It Out pattern, and it made a pretty big quilt considering it only took a layer cake plus some additional yardage. I think it was 63" X 85".

I'm also got my Sampler Store items finished for the upcoming ...

New Chair and UFO Flannel Project from Romany Quilting

I’ve had my eye on one of these “sewing chairs” for a while, and I’ve finally ordered and collected mine.  For as long as I’ve been sewing at the sewing machine I’ve used a dining chair.  Over the years things have slowly got more difficult, especially over the last year or so with my back problems.  So I thought it would be sensible to get a dedicated, adjustable sewing chair.  I’m still experimenting with the best height for me, and I’m pleased that I can move the chair, on castors, right up close to ...

Day Out On The Water from Quilting My Way

Today started with everyone talking loud and not letting me sleep in. So 8:30 am I finally got up.

We had breakfast and headed outside.  I  went on the kayak with Patrick and we went around the island and Susan caught up with us on her paddle board.

Afterwards Patrick and Chris headed out on the peddle boat.

While they were out I pulled out my embroidery to work on.

Not the best photo but I took it in the kitchen at 11 pm. I will do a better one tomorrow.  I was able to get all be lattice ...

Monthly UFO Goals from Quarter-Inch Capers

August is here, and August is always such a busy month. American Patchwork and Quilting has chosen number six for this month’s goal.

I am working from two lists—projects that need to be quilted and projects I started piecing and haven’t finished. They range from almost finished to not completely cut out. Number six for quilting is Totally Tulips. I have a back for it and may even have binding strips cut, so it is doable.

My number six for piecing is my 1930’s jelly roll quilt. That is more on an on-going project, so I ...

What I’m Working On from Quarter-Inch Capers

Lots of activity going on here—some of it productive; some not so productive. Hubby is back from Arizona, and the dogs are ecstatic. I’m pretty happy too, but more time is spent on cooking and cleaning up. I also spend the evenings after supper in the family room with him instead of retreating to the sewing room.

Thursday was quilt guild, and we had an all day workshop on sewing rope-covered bowls.

I did not finish—not even close—and I’m not sure when I will. Maybe never. LOL.

I also did some brainstorming on what I ...

July! from Quarter-Inch Capers

Don’t ask me what happened to June. I stayed busy all month, and still didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to get done. Well, it’s July and time for a new UFO number.

My “to be quilted” list has White Cloud in the number four spot. I couldn’t even remember what quilt that was. I have done several quilts in this pattern, but I thought they were all quilted. I looked back through my photo cloud and found this:

I’m pretty sure this is the one. I don’t know where it is, but I think ...

June UFO’s from Quarter-Inch Capers

It’s a new month—I’m not sure what happened to May, but June is here.

My UFO list for quilting has the Candy Land quilt as my number 1.

The date on the photo is January 2021, so I’m pretty sure this is one of the many tops I pieced during the pandemic. I was pretty much stuck at home for most of 2020 and some of 2021, and sewing kept me from coming unhinged. Here’s a better shot of the fabrics:
I already have the backing picked out for it, so that will be one ...

Another One Ready to Quilt from Quarter-Inch Capers

I know I was working on this one sometime in the fall.

The last post I can find on it is here. I didn't finish it, but was waiting to get all my stash unpacked to see if I had something that work for the borders. I still feel like I should have something that would work, but I couldn't locate enough of any one thing. The top without borders is 81' x 81", so I would need around a yard and a half do a reasonable size border.

I found a red and gold batik at the ...
