wonky courthouse steps finish from Making A Lather

My Friday finish is an older UFO from the strings bin. Wonky courthouse steps was inspired by a Bonnie Hunter pattern. This is the second one I have made. Once, I pull out the strip bin, it is hard to stop. I made a third one as well. All of them I have sewn on my singer treadle.

61 x 67

I used a sheet for the back and quilted free form swirls. I used scrappy pieces for the binding.

I finished the first one in 2021 here. No two look alike when using the string bin.

wonderland holiday runner finish from Making A Lather

My finish for Friday is wonderland holiday table runner. As an older UFO, I am so glad it is finally done. I was in love with the fabric line when I signed up for the class at my LQS. I remember, the instructor had us cut pieces, and, put them on paper plates to keep them labeled. If, I can ever get the dining room table ( aka dumping ground) cleaned off, it will look perfect.

92 inches long

wonderland holiday runner from Making A Lather

One, of my "to be quilted" Ufo projects, is an old Ufo from a class that I took in 2013. I have finally quilted it. It is long runner in beautiful Christmas  fabrics. It needs to have prairie points added before I can actually bind it. We had a Local quilt shop, at the time, and, it was just down the road from my home. It was small, but, a great place to hang out. And, ahem, I did my very best to keep them in business. It closed in 2014. I took as many classes as I could. The ...

scrappy pinwheels finished from Making A Lather

My Friday finish this week is scrappy pinwheels. I really enjoyed making this pattern and quilt. I started it in 2018 in an effort to use 2 1/2 inch scraps. It would be great for a jelly roll. One jelly roll would make it bigger than this one. I liked it so much, I recently cut another one in upcycled shirt fabrics.

60 x 68 = 14 yards

I quilted an overall paisley and used the backing for binding

more girlie garden from Making A Lather

I made progress on girlie garden at my Saturday open sew with my quilt guild. I needed to trim all the blocks before I could start piecing the rows.

One row led to another...

I have them all made. I can't assemble the top until I do a row of applique daisies.
This is a rogue project, that I added for February rainbow scrap challenge. I had an early finish to my regular rsc projects, and, thought, I would sneak another pink ufo in to the mix. March was busier, so it is the end of the month ...

pinwheels progress from Making A Lather

I have been sewing rows for my scrappy pinwheels quilt. The center is done and waiting for borders. I think I will keep it simple.

I have enjoyed making this pattern, so much so, that, I cut another, larger, quilt in shirt fabric. I guess I plan to live forever.

girlie garden progress from Making A Lather

Here is as far as I could get with my pink bonus rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy for February. I cut the blocks from the strip sets....

I sliced them twice on the diagonal to make triangles.

The plan was to go as far as I could by the end of the month, and get back to my regularly scheduled program. But, I don't think I can do that. I can smell a finish, and, I may want to keep going. My rsc projects are quicker this year than usual, and, I may leave it for March bonus ...

pinwheels progress from Making A Lather

I had a chance to make more scrappy pinwheel blocks, and, check how they will work as a row. I am really liking how easy this pattern is for scraps. When I cut my 2 1/2 inch strips for any other project, I can cut either the 4 1/2 inch or 6 1/2 inch rectangle from the leftover, depending on what is left. If, I can get a 2 1/2 inch square from any leftovers, I can use that, too. The background is a 4 1/2 inch square and 2 1/2 inch squares. I ...

scrappy pinwheels start from Making A Lather

I opened another Ufo box for my 5 quilts projects, and, found a fun older project. So, I am sewing scrappy pinwheels at Friday sews. It is easy and portable. It is fun to revisit some oldie but goodie fabrics as I piece the blocks. I found 3 different block pieces cut, and, made, when I opened the box. I needed to sew into block quarters below. This could easily be a jelly roll pattern.

Evidently, I can't count. I needed to cut and add a few more. My goal was 80 blocks.

So, that, I could make 20 ...

girlie garden quilt from Making A Lather

I finished early with my pink rsc projects for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. So, I perused the Ufo list for a mostly pink project. I have a few of them. I had added a few to my ufos expecting to have granddaughters. But, out of 12 Grandchildren, I only have 2 and they are nearly grown.

quilt kit I bought in 2014

It is a quick quilt that uses 2 1/2 inch strips. I cut the strips and started sewing them together. I have all the strip sets finished I will need.... I hope.

We will ...

One monthly goal finish February 2023 from Making A Lather

I have a finish and a one monthly goal completion to celebrate. My circa 1880 quilt is finished. I used 225 swap blocks from my quilty friends to make the top and added a border fabric that was gifted to me from another quilty friend some time ago. I could not be more pleased. The photos are a little dark from an Indiana dreary winter day, but, the quilt is shiny to me. So much talent from other quilters are part of my quilt in each little block.

92 x 94 and 22 yards

I used a cotton sheet for ...

radiant star finish from Making A Lather

May I introduce a very patient quilt that, now, has a chance to shine. I started radiant star quilt in 2012 as a class at a local quilt store.

I wrote the first blog post in 2016, mentioning that it might get a chance for a finish. Nope. not then.

I added it to 5 quilts in January 2023 by random number generator. I am glad I did, I finally could trust that it would get the attention it deserved.

I opened the project box, and realized it wasn't perfect, but, still very nice. I imagine the imperfect center ...

boxed up from Making A Lather

I have decided to retire these projects to the ufo closet. They deserve a vacation, and, to meet up with their old friends. Both of the quilts were last year's rainbow scrap challenge. I sewed them into useable blocks, to the point that decisions are needed for assembly. Now, they will have to wait until their turn as part of my 5 quilt focus. It could be years or decades LOL

Couldn't help taking pictures of all the petty valentine flowers at the grocery store. and it smelled great.

kristals project from Making A Lather

I started a new quilt with a quilting buddy. I cut the print part at an open sew. I still need to cut the background. My initial impression is that the instructions were not written in my way of thinking. I will have to do a lot of repeat reading to understand the next steps.

I have no business starting anything new this year. I have enough UFOs to last a lifetime that should keep me busy. On the other hand, I have had the pattern long enough, and the fabric pulled long enough, it could be defined as an ...

one monthly goal - circa 1880 from Making A Lather

I am tiring of this quilt, again. It has been in time out 2 other times for various reasons. I will make this my February one monthly goal, hoping that the goal will inspire me to stick to it. It began as a swap. The blocks were my one monthly goal for January 2019

I have the border sewn. But it is too tight, so I will need to unpick it, and remeasure, and resew. A tiny set back that has me scratching my head. What happened? I want to quilt and bind by the end of february.

My January ...

twisted braid ufo from Making A Lather

I used a random number generator to pick a number from my ufo list for my 5 quilts focus. Twisted braid was the choice. My notes said that, I had cut everything in the quilt in 2018. My guess, I had a group of matching 2 1/2 strips and thought I might as well cut it into a pattern I wanted to try rather than put them away. haha. I took it with me to Friday sew. and started sewing. Something wasn't right. It called for a jelly roll, and I know I started with enough strips. But ...

radiant star progress from Making A Lather

I had an open sew Saturday with the guild.  I needed a piecing project to take with me, since I mistakenly thought twisted braid( number 2) would not take the whole day. Circa is number one on the 5 quilt list. It is big and needs borders. I did not want to carry that. I opened radiant star ( number 3). It needed borders, too, but, is small enough to carry with me. I pressed it, ate a piece of candy for bravery, and, then, trimmed the edges. I really dread that step. One mistake, and the whole thing blows up ...
