Triangles......................... from Exuberant Color

Starting with the end of the day yesterday, last night I sewed 60 triangle squares, 12 each of 5 combinations.  The first group sewn last week have been pressed so I can start making the pinwheel blocks with them.

This is the same pile flipped over.  Whenever I feel like turning on the iron I will press these for more pinwheels.

Also last night I finished the dishcloth currently on the needles.  I used 3 small leftover pieces of yarn and then finished with a partial ball of yarn which has now created one more small leftover.

Sometime in the ...

Blue..................... from Exuberant Color

While I was in the basement doing laundry I cut some of the dark blue fabrics for my pinwheel quilt.

After that I mailed packages from my destash sale on WandafulQuilts.  The grocery store is across from the post office so I made a stop there too.
I spent some time trimming leaves off the tomato plants so there would be better airflow and hopefully sunlight hitting the green tomatoes.  After what I thought was a lot of trimming I could hardly see any difference in the plants.

Last night I paired the dark blues with the leftover light blue ...

Some things I found.................. from Exuberant Color

I did my grocery run yesterday morning and I couldn't settle on doing any one thing the rest of the day.  I started going through things in a bookcase and found these 2 magazines, from 1997 and 1998.  The Beanie Babies at that time were so hard to find because everyone was buying them.  I have given all of my Beanie Babies to the great-grandchildren, a few at a time.  It is so hard to throw pristine magazines into the recycling bin (but I sure don't need these).

Then I was cleaning out a bin on a shelf ...

Memories - 1956................ from Exuberant Color

Sometimes when I cut too many pieces they are a burden.  I spend too many hours trying to figure out what to do with them.  In this case I had gone to the bin with all of the Kaffe "Spot" fabrics and saw a good size piece of this gray/white one.  I had just opened the box with the leftover pink, blue, and green 6"  triangles a day or so before.  This one was meant to be.  I counted the pink triangles (170) and then figured out how many gray/white triangles I could cut out of the piece ...

Sewn, ready for pressing................ from Exuberant Color

The top is sewn as of 9:30 last night.  I'll press it and photograph it today.  I just love the pink and gray combination.  Now I'm not unhappy I overcut the number of pink triangles I needed for the previous 2 quilts.  It made this one a fast project.

I always pre-order some new Kaffe fabrics that come out in February and end of August.  This one is my favorite so I got 1 yard of it.

This was my next favorite so I got a little of each color.

Slow going............... from Exuberant Color

There are 12 cross seams to sew and I didn't get very far yesterday.  I finished the seams in the first direction in the morning and then started the cross seams last night.  Three of twelve are sewn.  I spent a couple hours yesterday looking for something that doesn't want to be found.

I have two more quilts ready for trimming and binding.  The one on the right will be done all by machine so it will probably get done first.

This week is the Sandwich Fair (DeKalb County fair) and the weather is cooperating nicely.  Today is ...

Sewing started.................. from Exuberant Color

I have 6 of the 11 columns webbed together.  I should be able to finish the top today.

If you want a preview of the quilts in Kaffe's new book Quilts on an English Farm you can go to Glorious Color's website shop  because she offers kits for lots of them.  Click on 'Kaffe Fassett Quilt fabric packs by book' and then click on the book title.  If you click on each photo it will enlarge a little.  The photos are a little dark so the ones in the book are prettier.

Final layout....................... from Exuberant Color

This is just a quick photo of the final layout of this pink and gray quilt.  It is my insurance in case I mix up some of the fabrics when sewing.  I decided it didn't make any difference if the dotted fabrics  were all turned the same direction.  If you look closely you can still see some dots run in straight rows and some in staggered rows, but this is a fast fun quilt.  I decided the pinks would just be scattered in a random way.  It will be a throw quilt.  I have the rows clipped and ready ...

143 blocks........................ from Exuberant Color

The last 32 pink triangles were cut yesterday and sewn to a dotted triangle.  I can see now that the dots are printed in straight rows along one grain and staggered rows on the other grain.  I will have to be careful when I do the layout to keep them all going the same direction.  A few of the prints are Tula Pink designs and they are one way designs.  I hope this doesn't become a nightmare.  I will design it on a double design wall in the basement while I do laundry today.

Triangles................. from Exuberant Color

Not much happened here yesterday.  We had beautiful weather and it was a good day for relaxing.

I have 111 of 143 triangles squares sewn, none pressed yet.  I need to cut a few more pink triangles to continue.  I was able to get 144 6" triangles out of 2 1/2 yards of the grey and white dotted fabric that is paired with a variety of pinks, leftovers from 2 other projects.

I rarely buy panels with Marcia Derse panels being the exception.  This one could be cut up in used in many blocks or maybe as a section ...

Finish #4 for August 2024 from Exuberant Color

This quilt is tricky to photograph.  If I use auto adjust in my editing program, it gives the pinks a blue cast so I didn't use it.

I don't feel the necessity to name every quilt but I have to have something to call it when I refer to it.  This one has just been Hearts and 4 Patches so far.  It has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it and it is 59" x 76".

I bought a couple big yardage pieces of pink prints for backings at a good sale price and this butterfly print is one ...

July 2024 Monthly Recap................ from Exuberant Color

It was obvious I wasn't going to have any more finishes today so my monthly recap is a day earlier than usual.  I had two finishes, both quilted by my longarm friend Robin.  The Red Kaffe Squares is 66" x 84.5" and has at least 77 different Kaffe collective fabrics in it.  Hole in the Barn Door/ Churn Dash with 4 different size blocks is 63.5" x 82.5" and also is Kaffe collective fabrics.  This one might have closer to 100 different fabrics.

I didn't expect to have a quilt top finish for July but ...

It's a finished quilt top!............................. from Exuberant Color

Surprised?  I am!  I sewed the rest of the triangle blocks and cut a few more spacer blocks yesterday.  All Marcia Derse fabric. When I started arranging them on the design wall I had exactly enough pieces to make a  40" x 40" quilt top.  I took that as a sign that I was ready to sew it together.  I finished it in time to take a daylight photo.  It could be a wall hanging or baby quilt.

Did I use all of the triangles?  No.  Most of the ones left are 1, 2 or 3 alike with just a ...

Finally a peek at what I'm doing............ from Exuberant Color

These pieces are up on the design wall in no particular order right now.  I just wanted to get a feel for what I have been planning to do and see if it is going to work.  I have a lot more triangles to sew together but now I feel like I know where I'm headed with this.

So far I'm only using scraps; I have lots of yardage I could dip into.

At this point I think I will have enough pieces to made a baby quilt.  When I give someone a choice between 3 - 5 baby ...

Sewn and pressed....................... from Exuberant Color

Finally I have a few more of the triangle blocks sewn.  There are more to sew, little by little.

I spent part of the day yesterday going through everything in a big desk.  I found some things I can take to the thrift store, some I need to shred, more that I need to find a place for.  Not an exciting day but necessary.

Block Prints Quilt from The Root Connection

Ever since I came home from Sisters, I have spent a lot of time in my sewing room. There are quite a few unfinished projects lingering in my head and in my studio. It is time to pay attention to those and make progress.

"Block Prints" began in the classroom during Quilters Affair 2023. I always like to do live demo, give pointers and tip as I go along about the technique. After making a few blocks, my head kept going back to Jaipur, India, where the idea of making this quilt originated.

I took the liberty to follow my ...

Preliminary sewing................ from Exuberant Color

Since I don't have a solid plan for this quilt, I'm just sewing some blocks to play with.  First I went through the trays and chose all of the fabrics of which there were at least 12 triangles.  I sewed several batches of them last night.

This is the rest of the sets of 12 triangles paired and ready to sew.

This one is upside down and I didn't notice that until I was typing this post.  This one has stripes and 6 are horizontal, 6 are vertical.  I had to lay this one out to see ...

What's next.................. from Exuberant Color

I don't have any definite plans for a new project (3 in cutting stage right now) so I pulled out the trays of Marcia Derse triangles that I cut from scraps a couple years ago.  I have more scraps that I could cut up too.

There is a fairly good variety cut already so I can go ahead and start sewing and cut as I need more variety.  They are 2" finished triangles.

3 trays full of triangles, probably enough for a baby quilt, maybe a small one.

My destash sale this week has been very successful so I ...

Trouble corrected. How many triangles can you count? from Elaine Adair Pieces

Yesterday, Blogger was misbehaving and I lost all patience - was ready to throw this computer out the window and give up on Blogging pleasures.  My Kodak camera is also near the end of it's life and I'm afraid to change to another unknown camera device.  The "gallery" where my camera downloads to the computer was unattainable - something about "apps" .  I grumbled, left unkind messages, struggled to find HELP, but gave up, emotionally exhausted and disheartened.  However, this morning, voila --apparently something was getting changed.  Ugh.

Here is my latest quilt.  Most fabric was new although bits and pieces ...

Cutting and planning............. from Exuberant Color

I cut a lot of 6" finished half square triangles yesterday.  I have had the pile of pink and blue fabrics sitting on a cutting table for more than 6 months.  The greens were leftovers from another quilt and were already pressed.

I cut 10 layers at a time with my Accuquilt Studio die cutter so the piles of 10 were layered with many different fabrics.  It took 1 1/2 hours to sort them while I watched TV last night.  All are Kaffe collective except for one Tula Pink.

Here is the variety of greens.  I have some more ...
