Vultures Rock Quilting Project from From My Carolina Home

Yesterday, my internet friend, Vicki, and I had plans to meet at the Asheville Quilt show. Unfortunately, hurricane Helene had other ideas. We got notice that morning that the show was canceled for the day, so we decided to meet for just a bit at a local breakfast spot. But it was closed when we got there! We were able to sit on a covered porch while it rained for a half hour, then they had to get on the road home to stay ahead of the worst of the wind and rain that was coming. I was happy we ...

A fun Christmas from Elsie Quilts

Our Christmas included giving this quilt and an apron to our son's fiancee. She kind of expected the quilt but hadn't seen it, but didn't expect the apron. What fun to watch her face...

She wanted lots of flowers, white with pastels. While it was a challenge to find flowers in November, a local shop had this panel with a few fat quarters to match in a kit -- only one left. Fun to make for a charming and fun-loving young woman who is also smart and keeps surprising us. How delightful to surprise her!

Every Quilt Tells A Story from From the Strawberry Patch...

Back in the spring our daughter-in-law's father asked me if I could help him; he wanted to make a quilt to give to his wife to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their first date. Naturally, the first question I asked was "when's the anniversary?" He told me that it was in mid-November. "Sure", I said, "there's plenty of time, be thinking about what you'd like, design-wise". Since then, off and

Discoveries from From the Strawberry Patch...

It's been a weekend of discoveries just outside the door. These precious little pink blooms appeared on the top of a lemon-scented geranium that I planted in a pot out on the patio. The flowers are truly secondary, I bought the plant as a natural mosquito repellent, it's grown quite large (from now on I'll realize that it needs its own pot as it has taken over and crowded out the Million Bells

Surprise! from From the Strawberry Patch...

This blossom just appeared, out of the blue, on my Christmas cactus in the dining room. Only one; bright and white. This occurrence almost made my heart stop. As we prepare for Easter, albeit so very differently this year, my mind has fast forwarded to Easter dinner. "We have to pick up a ham" I said to Mr. G.; "it's just us, though" he countered. Easter dinner has always been a BIG deal in our
