What can you do with mini charm squares?
Let's start with a wee bit of math. Don't worry -- it's easy!
The other day, I had to gas in my car. It's a RARE occurrence these days and this was the first time this year. Don't worry -- I'm driving it enough to not seize up the brakes, but there's not many places to go that I can't walk.
When I had filled up, I glanced at the screen and WOW -- I saved $1.32 because my credit card is linked to my bank. I saved THREE CENTS a litre. That got ...
read moreYou may remember this fun photo from our office in our post last year about planning your quilting room. We mentioned that we wrap our fabric pieces around comic book boards to store them on shelves, like you see above. It’s a great way to keep all your fabric visible, just like a mini quilt […]

Some in stacking drawers .....
..... some in plastic bins .....
..... more in plastic shoeboxes .....
..... and even more in plastic, bulk sized Biscotti containers. (I know!)
When I pulled all this together into one place I wondered if I really knew what I might be getting into. What I was getting into was a tangled mess!
I pulled out all the reds and began pressing .....
..... stacking .....

November has been a very busy time here. The weather has made sure we are very busy in the garden. The plants are enjoying the Spring rain and sunshine, and the weeds are flourishing!!! Lots of strawberries have been picked and turned into jam. And I think the grass grows behind us as soon as we mow.
The other part of being busy is that our state has opened up after lock down and we are able to catch up with family and friends. Masks are off outside and most venues are now open. So we started with family visits ...

It's hard to believe, but this Sunday marks the halfway point of this year's Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge! I've already seen so many beautiful quilts heading their way to bring comfort and cheer - thank you all for your enthusiastic participation!
And today, we have a new guest blogger - actually, this is her first experience with blogging, as she doesn't have one of her own. Pam M. lives and creates in a fabulous little studio in DeLand, Florida. Take a virtual tour through her studio as she shares about it, and then give her a ...
read moreHave you ever shopped the tool aisle at your local hardware store? I know many of us aren’t getting out to many places right now, but have you ever? Have you noticed that there are some neat items in the tool aisle that would work great for our crafting? We have. We have also noticed that you can find similar items in the craft store at a higher price point. I suppose that those in the business believe that crafters have a lot of disposable income or that those that are crafting are selling and therefore making money. I ...

I learn all kinds of things at the Virtual Retreat. Everyone is such a wealth of information and inspiration.
I want to start by giving you a day trip option. As you know, many (OK - ALL) events have been canceled. That includes the SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) convention, which was to be held in Toronto in March. That was back in the days when the organizers were wishy-washy about canceling events. Now - there is NO choice. Cancel!
An exhibition of art quilts was put together specifically for that conference. Alas - we never got to see the quilts. However, I ...
OMG - I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I had a lot of fun unpacking boxes yesterday. I don't have time to share the photos with you this morning, but here's a couple of quilts that I've been working on over the last couple of days. My goal is to get ALL of the customer quilts sitting in the queue to be completed before the end of the year. I'll still have some community projects quilts to do, but those can wait. I want the few customer ones left to be done ...
I've been taking applique or embroidery to Monday sewing and frankly - I can't do it all day. I get bored and that makes me sleepy. I thought it might be the sitting all day but nope - it's the applique. Note to self - try to avoid ALL hand applique in the future! Unless the project is small. I have a couple more hand applique projects to finish and I might just switch to machine applique. I can do the prep there but stitch at home. Something to think about as I get stuff organized for 2020.
So for ...
I love to walk into my studio and see all of the beautiful fabrics on the shelves. However, I do not like to fold them and try to keep them neat and organized when they are folded.
I never seem to fold them the same size….so I decide to invest in some Polar Notions fabric boards. They are so easy to use and keep the fabric on display, neat and organized. I have gotten up to 10 yards on 1 board or as little as a yard. I have 100 of these boards and need to order 200-300 more ...

If you have been following this blog for a while, you know that I do all my work in my converted attic. An attic has obvious challenges in terms of storage, mainly due to the lack of straight walls. Over the last couple of years, I have accumulated a large number of big thread spools that I stored in plastic containers. And because they were stored ...
