My Birthday from Mama Spark's World

I had another birthday on Sunday.  I really don't like my birthday very much.  It's often disappointing for me.  I don't know why I struggle so much with this one day, but it never goes how I would like it to.  This year was no exception.  I got up around 5:30 and fell getting out of bed.  I think I may have blacked out for a brief second.  I hit my face on the edge of the bed frame.  I gashed

A Stitching Book: Tell Me What YOU Want to See from Where Art & Life Meet

I’m working on a Left-Handed Stitching book. It’s a HUGE project, but I’m determined and am taking it one small stitch at a time. Yesterday I was working on a Threaded Backstitch and so I began to stitch on a piece of linen that I whipstitched some wool shapes onto. Once I had done one… Continue reading A Stitching Book: Tell Me What YOU Want to See

Hopeful Flowers—Week One from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Our Hopeful Flowers Stitch Along is here!

We are thrilled to be able to share this free project with you over the course of the next two months. This wallhanging came about because we wanted to create something that focused on going beyond the blanket stitch for wool appliqué. The inspiration for the palette came from the amazing Tres Jolie lawns from French General that I (Kara) purchased this summer. We knew right from the start that this would be a great second project for our little Hopeful Bluebird Facebook Group. Little did we know that this small group would ...

Chaos, Humor & a Do-Over from Where Art & Life Meet

A little humor to start off the day. It must be said that my mother did not send me any of these, however she might have, had she seen them. Here you go, Mom. I love you. I’m feeling a bit like Pooh Bear. To any of you offended by the f-word, these are unprecedented… Continue reading Chaos, Humor & a Do-Over

The Pandemic & Life from Where Art & Life Meet

As our internet is FINALLY up and running and my email is now, miraculously and somewhat bizarrely suddenly working again, I decided yesterday afternoon to do an impromptu live stream. It was very last minute, and touch and go, as the internet began misbehaving the minute I tried to live stream, but in the end… Continue reading The Pandemic & Life

Design, Exploration & A Finished Piece from Where Art & Life Meet

It all began with the Stem Stitch, a much over-looked stitch. I decided I needed to explore it and see if I could find a little excitement while doing so. I had no idea that this stitch would be the beginning of something wonderful! I pulled out some hand dyed linen that I’d bought and… Continue reading Design, Exploration & A Finished Piece

Stitching with Gimp and a lot of Laughter from Where Art & Life Meet

If you’d like to laugh and explore stitching (or in my case attempting to) with silk gimp and the thicker gimp that Painter’s Threads hand dyes, this was the live stream I did yesterday. Warning: We laughed A LOT. My attempts at using the crinkly silk gimp became more comedic than informative… However, I am… Continue reading Stitching with Gimp and a lot of Laughter

Music, Dining & Design from Where Art & Life Meet

All Along The Watchtower. Remember that song? Here you go. My new favorite YouTube Channel – Playing for Change presents musicians from around the world, bringing people together as only music and art can. One of my brothers, I’m fortunate enough to have three, asked me to send him photographs of the restaurants in NYC… Continue reading Music, Dining & Design

Curiosity, Exploring & Options from Where Art & Life Meet

Being curious has its downside, particularly in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping, but instead am listening to the air conditioner kick in while watching the ceiling fan make its rotations. Some random questions that entered my mind at around 3:30am: Where did the saying Curiosity Killed the Cat come from?… Continue reading Curiosity, Exploring & Options

Four Patch Baby Quilt from Quilting Stories

Four Patch Quilt

Four Patch Quilt

Four Patch Quilt

Among my unfinished tops I picked what I called the Gypsy Four Patch top. I found it too messy to become a double size bed cover, definitely I did not like it. Sometimes I wonder why I insist when in doubt...  I remember that from the very beginning I was not sure of myself and instead of stopping I went on adding other fabric lines, as a consequence that the more I was advancing with this project, trying to improve it, the less I was satisfied. Final result : an abandoned top.

Wondering what to do with this top, it came ...

Removing Stitches and Other Events from From the Strawberry Patch...

We're really good at it-- removing stitches. We're well acquainted with frogging and we all have armed ourselves with the proper tools. We've been doing it for years. We have different terms for this action, too: rather than "ripping out" we may refer to this as un-sewing, reverse-stitching or removing stitches. I'm skilled at this craft! In fact, I'm so adept at stitch removal that when I
