Happy New Year! from Alamosa Quilter

I've had a nice week at home with my shop closed all last week. I got our laundry room repainted after we had the ceiling in that room repaired and retextured. I also got some touch-up painting done in our main bathroom after we had some work done to one spot on the wall and the entire ceiling.

Our new family member, Sheba, has been busy all week too.

Sheba in our Christmas tree

We put up our Christmas tree without any ornaments. Then we were gifted a few ornaments. Since Sheba had been leaving the tree alone we put them on the tree ...

Another Rug Finished from Alamosa Quilter

Despite the assistance of my feline "helper," I was able to finish a second rug last weekend.

Ms. Spooky Boo (a cat) "helping" me sew the rug

I was a little uncomfortable with how close her tail was to the needle, but we managed! Here is the finished rug. It's the original Jelly Roll Rug pattern.

finished jelly roll rug using Night Breeze 2 1/2" strips

I used one of the new packages of 2 1/2" strips I've gotten in my shop recently from Wilmington Fabrics. What I like about Wilmington is that they have pre-cuts that are collection specific just like most other fabric companies, but they also have pre-cuts that are color specific. None of ...

New Quilt Kit from Alamosa Quilter

I wanted to share with you a photo of the new quilt top I just finished and am kitting up for my shop. However, Ms. Spooky Boo had other plans.

cat on quilt top

The quilt is currently being quilted by my longarmer so you will have to wait to see the quilt that is so good the cat couldn't wait until it was finished to try it out. She actually pulled it down off the design wall to get on it!

No, I didn't make her move. I waited for her to wake up on her own before folding it up ...

Dad School from Alamosa Quilter

When our son was little he would often ask his dad how he learned to fix things around the house. The answer - Dad School. When we started giving this answer it was kind of a joke, but it has now turned into a real thing.

Recently our front door knob needed to be changed. It has been getting harder and harder to operate. So 20 minutes and one session of Dad School and we have a new front door knob.

Jelly Roll Tree Skirt from Alamosa Quilter

I've had this pattern in my shop for some time. It's called Strippy Tree Skirt. I decided on Wednesday before Christmas that I wanted to make one for myself so I did!

Strippy Tree Skirt 1

The pattern explains a different method for starting than what I decided to do. I used one of my rope coasters instead. Notice the coaster in the center of the tree skirt in the photo below.

Strippy Tree Skirt 2

I just sewed right to it! Then I ripped it out before cutting the slit and adding binding to the cut edge. It worked great! No coasters were harmed in ...

2021 Ornaments :: A Finish from Alamosa Quilter

My ornaments for this year are done!

2021 Ornaments

2021 Ornaments

I completed two sets of these adorable felted wool ornaments. I had a bag full of these little wooden "handmade" tags so I add one to the back of each ornament.

2021 Ornaments label

I wrote my initials and the year on each little wooden tag before sewing it to the back.

Ms. Spooky Boo is not impressed.

This is how she likes to lay on me now. Her paws are right at the base of my neck. It's really hard to sew anything with a cat sitting on your chest! Being photographed was not ...

The Graduation Quilt :: A Finish from Alamosa Quilter

Well this has been a crazy finish for the class of 2020! My senior has been a real trooper through all this, doing what has to be done for school online and on time without too much nagging by his parents.

Ms. Spooky Boo has been very happy to have her boy home all day!

They snuggle like this every day!

And I have his graduation quilt completed!

I went ahead and gave it to him so he could put it on his bed now. He has been using his Cub Scout quilt that I made him about 10 years ...

Boxed Tapa Quilt from Alamosa Quilter

My long arm quilter is back from her holiday break. Yay!

This is a new kit we have available at my shop. The name of the pattern is Boxed Tapa and it is a batik quilt. The main fabric (the leaves) are a panel! Batik panels are rare because they are so time-consuming to print. Just like all batiks, they are all hand printed. These are some of the softest batiks I've ever handled too.

The quilt is 53" by 66" finished. Did you know I opened an Etsy shop for my "real" shop? Here is a link to ...
