Lots of Projects! from Thread Head

I started a new quilting project -

A simple half-square triangle quilt.
Hard to believe just those two piles of cut squares will make a queen size quilt, but I think my math is right. This will be a long term project for when I just want to sew for a bit.
I cut 5" squares - 313 of light fabric and 313 of dark fabric.
I am piecing them like this, and trimming the blocks to 4+1/2" (using one of my favourite rulers - one reason I am making a quilt like this. The main reason is because I wanted ...

Spinning and Knitting from Thread Head

I finished spinning everyday in February with a few more skeins in my stash - they are all now works in progress or finished objects.

A merino/nylon blend - knitting shortie socks.
I blended some different fibres (handdyed merino/silk, pearl fibre, two more types of silk and some silver sparkle),
and spun a fingering weight yarn (~180g) - knitting a cowl.
This is BFL wool,
I spun to make some fingerless mitts.
It is a free pattern on Ravelry - Cozy Cuffed Mitts by Karen Everett.
I finished knitting a pair of socks with a BFL/Nylon blend with yarn I spun ...

Spin the Bin 2022 from Thread Head

The challenge is to get together a bin of at least 24 ounces of fibre to spin in the year.
This is my bin,
and all the fibre (930g/32oz).
Since I have been spinning everyday in February I finished spinning my bin.
The four bigger, colourful skeins on the bottom of the above photo are for socks, and the grey is half of a larger spin (that is now finished) - I am hoping to weave a blanket.
Ended up with 5299m (2,332yds) of ...

More Spinning and Storms from Thread Head

Finished knitting a pair of socks -

I knit them out of merino/mohair fibre that I dyed and spun.
I didn't know how I would like the ribbing on the sole of the foot, but I don't even notice it and the socks are really comfy (the merino/mohair makes a difference too).

Since I am spinning everyday in February, I have got a lot done. These are all from fibre I dyed-

BFL/Nylon blend for socks.
About a sport weight yarn (my preferred for socks). This is ...

Socks and Spinning from Thread Head

This week I finished knitting a pair of socks out of handspun yarn.

They are regular toe-up, two-at-a-time, 64 stitches, on a 2.5mm needle socks.
This is the yarn,
and the fibre I dyed - a BFL/Nylon blend.
This week I spun this fibre that I had dyed - a Merino/Mohair blend (the first time I have used this blend for socks).
It spun up lovely, and ended up being quite fine (a fingering weight), I thought maybe the mohair would puff up a bit after finishing, but it didn't.
I decided to join in the DRK Spin ...

Day 8 - Spinning then Knitting from Thread Head

I spun yarn and then knitted a few things recently, from fibre that I had dyed.

This one is merino/nylon blend that I spun a 3 ply yarn for socks.

And the knitted socks (my regular toe-up, two-at-a-time socks to use every bit of yarn).

This one is an alpaca/merino/silk blend, that I spun into a singles yarn (so the colours would remain clear).

And the knitted shawl (really a scarf).
The pattern is one I have made before and couldn't resist knitting again (Entrelac Shawl with Tassels by Eva Martinsson).

All the best!♥︎

How I’ve Kept My Sanity: Crafting Through Misdiagnosis… (Part 3.5) from Eric the Quilter

After posting Part 3 of the Toxic Medicine series, I posted some of the scarves I’ve been working on, but forgot to post the yarn I spun! So we’ll call this “Part 3.5”. I love spinning yarn, but holy heck is it time consuming. I did not know that when I started spinning, but it is rather easy to start and stop, so I can always walk away and come back to it later. Perhaps later this week, I’ll post some of the art roving I have waiting in the wings for future felting or spinning ...

Some Dyeing from Thread Head

This past week I did some dyeing-

This is all a Blue Faced Leicester and nylon blend for socks.

This is the first bundle that I decided to spin - I tried some different colours for this one, and wanted to see how it would spin (I used Jacquard acid dyes in the colours Russet, Teal and Golden Yellow mixed with a bit of of Jet Black to make lime green).

The three bobbins ready for plying (I like a 3-ply yarn for socks).
The finished yarn.
I really like how the colours came out.
And this is how it is ...

More Thimbles from Thread Head

I finished the thimbles leader/ender project-

This was the last of the thimbles I cut years ago, and I made about 4 or 5 projects with. This one is 14"x26".

I put a couple of borders on this one for a change (all the others I just added binding).

Since I needed a new leader/ender project (and didn't want to go out and buy a new die) I cut more thimbles with different fabrics (for a change). The plan for these is to make a 'larger' (than table runner) quilt - I am sure that this will ...

Keeping Busy from Thread Head

I probably should be cleaning my house, but instead I am spending time making things.

These are the Stay at Home Sampler blocks from Temecula Quilt Co on Instagram, 14 - 3" blocks so far.

I made a stitchery block from Marg Low Designs - it is one of the blocks from the Love and Hugs from Australia quilt along on Facebook. I always wanted to try out a little stitched block, and this was lot of fun. I enlarged the pattern to make an 8" block and turned it into a little wallhanging. It is 10"x12".

I spun up a ...
