Good morning, my friends. It's quite dark outside this morning. Rain moved in overnight. I awakened early this morning to the sound of water running through the gutters. The field is still dry and brown. The rain will green it up, and we're looking forward to that. With autumn officially starting tomorrow, I expect we'll be seeing more rain very soon.
Yesterday started with a visit to the farmer's market with Erik and Mae. I came home with eight ears of corn, a bunch of cilantro, 1-1/2 pounds of tomatillos, 8 oz. of chanterelle mushrooms ...

read moreGood morning, my friends. The promised rain has finally arrived. With a few breaks, it's been raining fairly steadily for hours. It started while we were asleep, and now it's beginning to look like a typical Oregon winter. Of course, winter is not even close, but we're getting a glimpse into the future today.
Thankfully, I was able to get out and do some weeding yesterday. I pulled up or "mussed up" some of the smaller weeds, and then whacked back my enormous sage plant to about one-third its size. I love the fresh sage, but the ...

Good morning, my friends. It was another hot day yesterday...98°F at our place, which is very unusual for us. Being at the top of a hill, we're generally a little cooler than they are in the valley. It was a good day to stay in and sew.
There was a little more progress on the Stitching Wisdom quilt. The bottom row of blocks has just one embroidered block. I did that one the same as I've done the others.

Good morning, my friends. Day by day the place seems a little more back to normal. We've moved from the big jobs to the small jobs, including little bits of housework.
Yesterday's small gardening job was to tie up the echinacea into a tidy bundle and let the light shine on the plants hidden underneath. If you look closely at this image, you'll see black spots on the flowers. Those a bumblebees. They aren't aggressive, but I put on long sleeves just in case. You can see the size difference between the pink echinacea and the ...

read more I have been in the mood to finish some quilts and so I have another finished quilt to show this week. My yellow and green potato chip quilt is done. I'm calling it "Sunny Day". The striped binding was in my stash. This quilt will be donated to my MIL's nursing home to be raffled off as a fundraiser. (Another quilt is quilted and will be bound shortly--it is a gift so no pictures yet)

My friend, Christine, and I had a few days away at the cottage last weekend. We brought our sewing machines, projects, and handwork with us, as well as some books to read and good food to eat. It was a pretty relaxing weekend. A storm blew through and the power was off for 12 hours, but we found lots to do. We even toasted bagels and boiled water for tea on the BBQ!
I started a Tiny House quilt (online class by Jo Avery). My houses still need roofs and chimneys but I did didn't have the right colour ...

Orange is the colour for June for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge so I dug into my 2.5" squares bin and pulled out all of the orange squares. I cut a few from my orange fat quarter bin to add some variety before making 6 orange hollow nine patch blocks. I am getting quite a stack of these blocks! When I run out of the centre squares, I will put the blocks together to make a quilt.
Good morning, my friends! If you thought you were going to get a break from my endless prattle today, then you would be wrong. I'm still mouthing off on a daily basis. For sure though, I'm taking the next couple of days off. We'll be in full-on packing mode, and it's going to get ugly. Trust me. You don't want to know a thing about it.
On the other hand, things have been looking up flower-wise. Mike was the first one to spot it, but when I looked out the dining room window yesterday morning ...
