Happenings in My Studio from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

I have 2 more finished and gifted quilts for my siblings to show you in a couple of upcoming posts but today I'm showing some work-in-process pics of the last one, which will be for my brother.  I've shared these on Instagram so if you follow me, you'll likely have already seen them.

It started with cutting 3 1/2" squares from 30 different fabrics that either were scraps leftover from other projects or fat quarters I had purchased over many years to round out the color palette for this quilt.  I'm using a range of ...

Mickey Mouse Quilt for Sharon from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

When I bought the Villains panel and fabrics for my friend Anne, I also knew that I also needed to find something for my friend Sharon.  Her favorite character is Kermit the Frog but after an exhausting search online, I came up empty.  She's also a big Disney fan and I found out that Mickey is her favorite character. Mickey panels and prints were much easier to find.

This is her finished Mickey Mouse quilt.

Once it was loaded on the frame, I knew that the quilting would bring it to life.
Picking the right panto was tough.  I ...

Sweeter Than Honey from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Since practically the beginning of my quilting journey I've had the plan to eventually make a quilt for each of my 4 siblings.  As with so many people this past year, I've thought long and hard about what I want to accomplish in my future and decided that these quilts needed to happen now, not in who knows how many years from now.

This first sibling quilt was for my oldest sister Tina, who also happens to be a quilter.  Long ago I started a quilt that I originally thought would be for her, but later decided it ...

Winter Frost Wall Hanging, Table Runner and Placemats from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

In December 2020 I participated as one of the Chefs for Moda's Countdown to Christmas Quilt Along.  This year's theme was Winter Frost and the fabrics chosen where a mix of prints and Moda Grunge in Ice Blue, Royal Blue, Aqua and White.

While designing blocks for these events, I've come to the decision that I don't want to end up with random blocks that get put away, never to be seen again.  I didn't have time to make the entire quilt so I chose to make a wall hanging with a limited number of ...

Where have I been? from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

I don't think any blogger means to not post for almost 2 months.  Certainly I don't but sometimes life gets in the way of things we want to do.  What have I been up to lately?

Sunshine hasn't had any motivation to work on the new quilt for her bed so when I asked if she wanted help, she readily said Yes.  At the rate she was going, this quilt was never going to get done.  All of the blocks are sewn and I'm working on adding the faces before I add the sashing and border ...

Bubble Gauze Summer Dress from Tea Rose Home

I bought this striped bubble gauze at Joann Fabric a while ago at 40% off. I knew I wanted to make a summer dress, but didn't have any specific design in mind at the time. Now I am doing my own "Sew my stash challenge" and I have been Looking at the fabric really trying to see what it could be. Then an inspiration came to me... I wanted to sew a dress you might find at a brand like Madewell. I had a french sleeve top pattern I created years ago, so I decided to modify that pattern ...

Versatile Summer Dress from Tea Rose Home

Over the last few month I have been going though my fabric shelves and closet and reorganizing them. I felt like my problem before the pandemic was that I buy fabrics faster than I could turn them into something, but I bet I am not the only one with this problem! I decided that I need to put a stop to that and actually start sewing more. I bought a couple fabrics you see in picture above and below about 3 years ago at a local quilt store but they were lost in a pile and forgotten. I was originally ...

American Beauty table runner fnish from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

I finally made time to quilt and bind my American Beauty table runner and now it's gracing my dining room table for the summer.
This is an old UFO that started with these patriotic Blackford's Beauty blocks for the Celebrate Red, White and Blue blog hop way back in July 2012.

Almost 8 years ago to the day I put the blocks together and added the borders for the blog hop photo shoot.  Sadly, this wasn't my oldest UFO.
I even got my little helpers to hold it for a pic.  They were soooooo little then.  Jammer ...

My Bella quilt - the beginning from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Happy Mother's Day!
While the weather in many other parts of the country is beautiful and people can enjoy lots of time in the beautiful outdoors, here today it is colder and still really windy so I'll be staying in.

After a lovely breakfast made by my family of Belgium waffles with fruit and whipped cream and a side of bacon, I've decided today I'm going to just do something for me.  No working on customer quilts, no making masks for others, no finishing up a quilt that will be donated.  Instead I'm going to ...
