Little something something from Heirloom Quilting Co.

A Little something something to hang from a door knob for Valentine's Dayor perhaps line a little basket,  This measures 6 x 12 approximately but you can make yours any size you want it to be.  I just used 3 inch squares from my scraps and cut in half diagonaly and sewed the triangles together to make hourglass blocks,  I used 1 1/4 inch single binding strip. You can make flying geese or just squares if you want, just have fun.  Quick and easy,

Have Fun!

Throw Yourself a Cutting Party! from Quiltnotes All Blogs

If you have been quilting for more than a few years, you probably have fabric scraps busting out at the seams. I know I do! Scrap quilts to the rescue. I have made about 6 scrap quilts this year and still have more fabric.

This is a scrap quilt made with 4" finished half square triangles.

A cutting party is where you make a list of quilts to make, sort your scraps then cut the pieces you need. Here is what I do.

Plan Your Quilts and Cutting Requirements

Here are the quilts I have planned and the size strips ...

The Utility Quilt from Podunk Pretties

Yesterday I pulled out the green scraps cut and pieced back in February and March.   The original plan was to start a scrap saver system sorta like Bonnie Hunters of Quiltville or Lori Holts of Beeinmybonnet.  Well old habits are hard to break.  My quilting style is cut it and sew it.  So that's what I ended up doing.  I just couldn't help myself.

When sewing these together there was no plan.  I just needed some sew time.  It was a grab and sew kind of method.  This quilt does not need to pretty, only functional.  But after ...

Making Plans For Scraps, Leaders and Enders? from Podunk Pretties

Well I'm still sorting fabrics and making plans for new projects. If you missed out on the mess I made you can read about it here.   These may or may not get made but at least the scraps will be a little more organized.  I do this every now and then.  While organizing my mind can create some beautiful quilt designs that may or may not be made.  It's also very therapeutic.  Just standing here looking at this mound of fabric makes me sigh.   What a glorious site to behold.  Instead of designing a quilt I think I ...

Blues with some purple too from Samelia's Mum

With the new colour announced in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I dug out my bag of blue scraps and made a start on my quarter log cabin blocks.

I made these ones in a couple of hours, ducking in and out of the sewing room while I was cooking dinner. Other than the scrappiness, I love that these blocks don't require a lot of brain power.

My (OMG) goal with Elm Street Quilts for this month is to finish a few more quarter log cabin blocks as well as the hexagon blocks as I've made for previous months ...

Implementing the Scrap Saver System from Podunk Pretties

Well I've pulled out and dusted off the die cutter and decided to jump on board the scrap saver system.  What's the point of having all those scraps if you don't use them.  And what's the point of having a die cutter if you don't use it.  So lets do this!  Woohoo!  I'm super excited to get this journey started.  I'll be using the Bonnie Hunter scrap system.   As we all know she is the Scrap Queen.  So we might as well follower her lead.

My scraps are sorted by colors and age ...

A Box of Surprise and Some Playtime from Podunk Pretties

Who doesn't love a surprise box of goodies?  I purchased this scrap box of fabric from Daisy Cottage Quilts.  I had no idea what would be in the box.  It was listed as a medium flat rate box of scraps, no fabric pictures were included, just a picture of the box.  But Sharon of Daisy Cottage Quilts plays in my color pallet so I was pretty sure I was going to receive some cute fabric scraps.

And Sharon did not disappoint.   I was hoping for reds and yellows because they are the colors are use the most and are ...

Bigger and Better Quilted Placemats from Samelia's Mum

A couple of days ago, I mentioned some these placemats that I'd been working on. Well, they're all now bound (with my favourite black and white stripe fabric which I purchased at Spotlight a few years ago) finished and all ready to use at dinnertime starting tonight.

Wednesday from Samelia's Mum

It's the last full week of the summer school holidays here so we're trying to make the most of it, even though the teen/tween aren't overly enthusiastic about all of my ideas for 'fun' activities.

We ventured into Darling Harbour (Sydney) and spent a few hours at the Wildlife Park and the Sydney Aquarium. It was quite a warm day, so this was a nice way to stay a little bit cooler. It seemed as though half of Sydney had the same idea as we did because both attractions were crowded.
