Reminder - July's $6 Pattern of the Month Ends Tomorrow - Get Nautical News! from Busy Hands Quilts

This is a last-minute reminder that July's $6 Pattern of the Month is Nautical News!  The sale ends when the clock strikes midnight on Friday, July 31st.

This #quiltpattern includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and is layer cake friendly for a quick finish.  I've since learned to not name quilts by their fabric collection as it can limit how people see the quilt.  It looks great in many fabric collections, including solids and scraps.

The rainbow Nautical News quilt above was made from my scrap bins.  It includes 24 different Kona cottons.

The ...

Getting to the Sale from Professional Quilter

Early in my career as quiltmaker, I sold my work.

I took commissions, I did juried craft shows, and I was the only quilter in a fine arts co-op with a storefront.

I saw my share of objections to sales. I still see them today. And, today, with the coronavirus changing our sales process, you might even see more objections.

The price is too high. I need to talk to my spouse first. I can’t make a decision today. I need to look at other items. I need to touch the fabric or see it in person. I’m ...

Boost your business with video conferencing from Professional Quilter

We’ve been in our current sheltering mode for nearly two months. Regardless of when we exit this, our ways of doing business will be forever different.

One of the most significant changes will be around technology. More people will continue working from home. More people will continue using the Internet than ever before for learning.

If you haven’t quite yet embraced this, it’s time to jump on that bandwagon.

On our Members’ Studio coaching call this week, we focused on using zoom, one of the video conferencing platforms. As an early adopter of zoom, I’ve seen ...

Selling: It’s About Service from Professional Quilter

selling-is-service

I’ve had several different conversations with clients about selling in the midst of the coronavirus.

Is it ok to keep selling? Do I need to cut my prices because of the struggle people are having?

It really boils down to not feeling comfortable selling and knowing your value.

So I ask you, does selling feel uncomfortable or even scary to you? Particularly now?

No one likes to be sold to, and we all have opinions about people who sell. Do you know that Gallup® does an annual survey on honesty and ethical standards of people in a variety of ...

Brick Cottage Lane 2 Quilt Pattern Update and Sale! from Busy Hands Quilts

Brick Cottage Lane 2 quilt pattern cover has been updated and is currently on sale, including a preorder of the printed version!  In addition to a new cover, there were a few minor updates in the pattern that reduced the number of pages, but the bones of the pattern are the same.

The joy of this pattern is that I have figured out how to strip piece this quilt and have worked out all of the math and techy stuff for you.  It would be extremely time-consuming to piece this quilt brick by brick - though not impossible.  To save you ...

Increase your booth ROI from Professional Quilter

For many years I’ve had the opportunity to sell my product in public venues.

I’ve sold my handcrafted quilts at local craft shows, larger regional juried craft shows, and a local crafts cooperative. Most recently I marketed the International Association of Creative Arts Professionals at the International Quilt Market. All are great places to sell your work, meet your customers, and gather marketing information.

Whether you sell your work in a small retail venue or a trade show like Quilt Market, here are some tips to help you increase sales:

#1 Set an intention

Spend time ahead getting ...
