Has it Really Been Four Months? from The Modern Diary

My sewing mojo has not been there for awhile.  I did not realize I had not posted since July though!  I really did not do much sewing all summer and into fall.  I have mostly been solo board gaming and reading.  My health improved a titch in May (like it did last year, though it tanked again in the fall last year) so I was able to be upright more and I spent as much time outside playing games as possible.  I think the vitamin D helped too.
Here are some of the blocks I did manage to get done ...

Blush from Sew Preeti Quilts

Have you seen my Blush?

Paul the model

I made the flimsy as a part of the Pantone Color Quilt Challenge which included three categories - mini quilt, not a mini quilt, and flimsy. The extremely limited guidelines are a double-edge sword. As participants we can make anything we want - no limits to creativity. Since we don't know the judging criteria we cannot make a quilt to win the challenge.

All the peaches

I chose to participate because I had plenty of gorgeous peachy goodness in my stash. I was in between projects. But most importantly, I wanted to play ...

Fireworks and more! from Sew Preeti Quilts

Have you seen my newest finish? Fireworks was published in Make Modern Issue 59.

Published in MM#59

Fireworks was designed in EQ8 and made using Fire and Ice, an original collection designed by Claudia Pfeil.

I love this pattern because it is not paper-pieced and requires no special rulers, making it very accessible to quilters of all skill-levels.

I like big blocks :-)

Made of 12 large blocks, Fireworks finished at 60" by 79". The background and binding is Egg White, an Island Batik Neutral available all year round. The backing is Dove, an Island Batik Basic from the Bodacious ...

RSC Week #29 - AQUA from Grandma's Red Needle

HAPPY END OF JULY!
How come it's second half of July already?!
I haven't posted anything this month. July is the start of prepping Christmas items for my Etsy shop and is always a busy month. I've worked mostly on Advent Calendars, mug rugs and trivets.

Angela at SuperScrappy has chosen AQUA for this month's RSC  (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) scrappy color, shades of blue leaning towards green.

Hmmm.... That's a tricky color for me, as I don't have many prints in that color. I've done a mix of aqua, turquoise and teal. It ...

Island Batik Unboxing Plus from Sew Preeti Quilts

July is the wonderful time of the year when the Island Batik Ambassadors receive their second shipment of supplies and goodies for the year.  I need all the help to stay indoors when the outside is like a sauna.

I poked my head outside and felt like I got slapped by the 100 degree heat wave. I quickly shut the door and returned to play with my supplies.

Here is the video. For once it is all about the fabrics. They are much prettier :-)

Here are the supplies.

We received a generous box of batting from Hobbs.  Three Queen Size ...

Holiday Weekend and a New Quilt from Sew Preeti Quilts

Hope you had a good holiday celebration!

I have some good news and I promise I will get to it. But please let me whine first. After all, if I don't do it here, where can I?

In Yorktown

Paul and I decided to visit Colonial Williamsburg so we made hotel reservations a few weeks in advance. The plan was to spend July 4th in Yorktown, July 5th in Williamsburg, and July 6th in Jamestown.

I booked us a sailboat cruise (6:30 - 8:30) on the York river, after which we could watch the fireworks. As we drove ...

Catching You Up! Sewing, Health, Gaming, In Hand Games from The Modern Diary

I have not been doing much sewing lately as life has been hectic.  My fatigue had improved a bit, then got worse again and so sewing goes by the wayside as I try to get more rest.  I cannot recall if I shared these snowmen which I sewed on two different days I did get in here.  One to go before I can assemble it into a cute wall hanging. I just love snowmen!

This is Cascadia above. In this picture I am playing it solo with an AI, just as fun as having a partner.
I have been gaming ...

Sweet Dreams from Sew Preeti Quilts

In summer I dream of a chilly breeze.
In winter I dream of a fire.
At land I yearn for the stormy seas.
Once there it is dry land that I desire.

It is no surprise that I made an Autumn Quilt in Spring :-) Meet Sweet Dreams.

Autumn in Spring

RSC Week #26 - Last of the Blues from Grandma's Red Needle

 ...for this month, that is.

It has been a busy sewing week, working on Advent Calendars for my Etsy shop.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I ran out of Silver Metallic thread for the Blue Holidays calendar. It was delivered a couple of days ago. I got to it right away and now they (3x) are waiting for binding to be attached.

4x 'Tomten's Forest Friends' - binding to be attached

2x 'Tomten's Village - binding to be attached too

...and finally...

...the table runner for the buffet!
I bought a charm pack some years ago; 'Indi-Glow' by ...

RSC Week #25 - Never ending Blues from Grandma's Red Needle

How did it come it's midsummer already?!
This year, so far, has flown by with record speed.

I missed last Saturday's RSC posting. We took advantage of the sunny weather and did some (never ending!) yard work. I'm glad we did, Sunday it was pouring rain, and rain showers ever since. I did grocery shopping and went for a walk this afternoon, it was pouring rain just after I returned home.

What has been going on the last two weeks?
I've quilted and added pockets to 6 blue Advent Calendars for my Etsy Shop. Sleeves are ...

RSC Week #23 - More Blues from Grandma's Red Needle

June is a busy month here at Grandma's Red Needle.
BLUE was selected by Angela at SuperScrappy as the RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge - color for June.

I have several blue WIPs and with the head start last week, I made several blocks for some of the WIPs.

This week I've made

4 Scrap Jar blocks

New BOM block from Sherri McConnel, 'A Quilting Life'

I'm currently working on BLUE Advent Calendars (no photos yet) for my Etsy Shop
I like to start early, to avoid 'stress-sewing' closer to the Advent Season.

Linking up with Angela and RSC ...

RSC Week #20 - No more PINK... from Grandma's Red Needle

...I said, in my previous post

I have admired the Hollow 9-patch blocks some of you are making and since some 2-1/2" pink squares were hiding on the table, I decided to make a few blocks

I got 3 blocks

I've been lurking at Pat Sloan's '182 Day Solstice Challenge Blocks' for some time and I really love how her quilt turned out. Isn't it pretty?
Today (Thursday) I decided to jump into it and make a few pink blocks! It doesn't harm to use up more stash, does it?!

May is Pink! from The Modern Diary

I finished my blocks for Princess Crown #2 and was so excited I started sewing them together.  About three fourths of the way through I realized I had forgotten to add the already cut sashing and cornerstones!  I decided to just keep on keeping on and cut another whole quilt to use the sashing and cornerstones in.

I am loving my Clearly Perfect Slotted Trimmers for trimming up all the hst's for the A Quilting Life BOM/Rainbow Scrap Challenge block.  Here are my pink blocks for May.  Linking up with Angela .

RSC Week 19 - more PINK from Grandma's Red Needle

 It's PINK - again!
Pink is May's chosen color for the RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge

I ran out of background fabric for the BOM from Sherri McConnel; 'A Quilting Life'
For the previous blocks I have used Moda Marbles 'cream' (not available anymore).
Instead, I purchased 'Baby White', which is slightly more yellowish, but that's OK. It's scrappy, after all!

When I joined RSC last year (2023), I sorted most of my fabrics on color.
After I made Arreli's quilt, I don't have much pink left. I had to dig deep into my ...

RSC Week 18 - PINK for May from Grandma's Red Needle

 Welcome May!
May already! How did that happen?!

Angela at Super Scrappy has chosen PINK for May's RSC - Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

This year, I'm making different blocks in the RSC colors.
As I have mentioned earlier, I like to do all the blocks at the beginning of each month so that I can concentrate on other things when the blocks are done.

Since the last Saturday in April was on 27th, we got a head start on Pink!

All the blocks for 'Keep the Home Fires Burning' are done

Feeling Peachy - Mica in Island Batik Fabrics from Sew Preeti Quilts

I wanted to make at least one quilt using Island Batik Fabrics, for the Pantone Quilt Challenge 2024.

There are so many beautiful peachy hues to choose from.

Island Batik Fabrics

Cantaloupe (Island Batik Basic) from the Opulent Oranges was the closest match for Peach Fuzz.

Cantaloupe

Carrot

So many ideas and so little time. I wanted to create something simple and minimalist different from Blush (a Colorwash inspired quilt top), and Peach on Earth (improv pieced quilt).

After playing with shapes, fabrics and layouts in EQ8, I chose this design.

EQ8 Mock-Up

First Block

The design took a week ...
