Where the Deer and the Antelope Play from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

We started our day at the Crazy Horse Memorial which is very close to Mount Rushmore.

The memorial is far from done and it will not be completed anytime soon as there are only 14 people working on this ambitious project.  It was started in 1948......so that gives you an idea of just how long it has taken just to get to this point.

The magnitude of Crazy Horse dwarfs the faces on Mount Rushmore.  The faces on Mount Rushmore would fit in the top part of the mountain by the Crazy Horse face. We are still ...

California Here We Come! from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

We saw our first bison yesterday about 1 mile into Theodore Roosevelt National Park. What a handsome animal.

The entrance to the park is only a half mile from the retreat center.

We saw lots of prairie dogs, wild horses in the distance, and Gail thinks she saw a coyote.

Someone wrote on my FaceBook page that North Dakota is so flat you can watch your dog run away for two weeks!  The eastern side is pretty flat; however, we enjoyed the easy drive across the prairie.

This sign was riddled with bullet holes.

One of the quilters ...

Badlands Quilters Show and Tell Friday Night from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

Hello Everyone,

We've had a very busy and fun-filled three days at the Badland Quilters Retreat.  After my Peek-a-Boo Pumpkins class on Friday, we had dinner then Amy Munson presented a trunk show on the history of Crazy Quilts.  This is not a crazy quilt, but it is a good picture of Amy and a quilt she made and showed during the show and tell session.

Sit back and enjoy just some of the quilts displayed during show and tell.

This is a quilt back!

This is the front of the quilt.

Here is a picture of the Badlands ...

Day 1 of The Badlands Quilters Guild from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

Today was the first day of the Badlands Quilters Retreat. It was a balmy 24 degrees this morning when we left the hotel for breakfast.

The bluffs behind the community center are beautiful.

I taught Peek-a-Boo Pumpkins today.

There was an explosion of orange in the classroom.

Gail helped the girls make the ribbon border.

The theme for the retreat is Run for the Roses.

We had a little fun with this photo op.
Only one mishap today.  I walked into the men's room instead of the women's room.  Oh well, only one person saw me ...

Road Trip Day 4 from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

We started out the day drinking 'Mountain Mud' coffee in Billings, MT and ended the day eating Walleye in Medora, ND.  We quickly drove out of the mountains in Montana and entered the rolling plains and grasslands in eastern Montana.  We were sprinkled on just a bit, maybe we were being baptized in the plains.

We still saw a bit of color from the cottonwoods and elders.

Then we started seeing such interesting land formations covered in red.

A friend in Arnold suggested that we stop at the Enchanted Room quilt shop in Glendive, MT.  What a wonderful ...

Road Trip Day 3 from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

Hello Everyone,

Montana rolled out the red, orange and yellow carpet for us yesterday!  We think we hit the peak of the fall colors.  It was incredible! We were gobsmacked (I love using that word), as we drove around each bend in the road.

We didn't have a brilliant start to the day.  We were headed to Starbucks for our vanilla lattes before we drove out of town.  Instead of getting into what I thought was the drive through window, I pulled into the drive-up window of a bank.  Who knew they didn't make lattes and send them ...

Monday October 3, 2022 Trippy Sisters from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

Here we are, Lynn and Gail ready to set out on our road trip to North Dakota.  Or as Gail says, our Toad Trip.  She was texting her neighbor and that's what came up.  Darn spellcheck!

The car is full of quilts, tutorials, patterns, books, and suitcases.  We are going to be gone for 14 days and you need a lot of changes of clothes.

First stop was the sun rising over Lake Alpine.  Note to self: before you get out of the car, put it in park.  Insert a grimacing face here.  Our trip could have ...

Spring Travels and Rest from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

We have had a lot going on lately and unfortunately our needles have been rather still, much to our dismay. Between road trips, health, and family, we have had to take a little hiatus from the blog and social media. Our needles will be busy soon, but in the meantime we will share a few pictures from the aforementioned road trip. It was to Paducah, Kentucky for the AQS quilt show and it was wonderful!

 Please enjoy!

Making Every Day Count from Elaine Adair Pieces

I'm still here, back home in Nebraska, after a 2500 mile road trip. Yes, I LOVE to drive.  Part of my trip was to meet up with my High School GF who lives south of Chicago.  After we arrived back in my home in western Nebraska and recuperated a day, we drove north thru Wyoming to visit Devils Tower near Hulett, WY.  She had never seen "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", so I checked out that film from our local library and gave her a lead in for the Tower, with that space ship scene!  Our drive north ...

Road Trip! from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Teri and I (Kara) are off on our first road-trip together since I came home from Germany and we decided to make the most of it—a stop at the Virginia Quilt Museum, an antique mall stroll, and a quick visit to a local winery. We will be teaching our Village Wanderings—Shops this weekend at the Charlottesville Area Quilters Guild and we can't wait!

See you next week and hope you have as much fun this weekend as we will!

Road Trip from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OK -- so the timing of the road trip was NOT the best. I have a lot of work to do, and I didn't get back until later in the afternoon. However, that day was the only day that worked for Dede, and we were going for her sake, plus we had a sweet ride - I was in!

Dede had to pick up some fabric and a book all the way in Seaforth, so we headed out early in the morning. I waved HI to Shelly as we zipped through her neighborhood.

Let's just say that it's fun ...

When In New England... from From the Strawberry Patch...

We made a trip up to New England to visit with family and spend Mother's Day with my mother. As of this morning we're home again and the washing machine is working overtime. Our visit north was blessed by the weather gods; lovel, sunny (albeit chilly) days and crisp, cool nights. It was glorious! My sister and her husband met up with a lobster fisherman on Saturday afternoon and brought back TEN(

Road Trip and Home for a Quilt from Elaine Adair Pieces

I recently returned from a Road Trip that included a stop in northeastern Nebraska, then headed east across Iowa to southern Wisconsin, then south and AROUND Chicago to where my folks had their farm in Richton Park, Illinois, then I picked up a Girl Friend from High School in that area, and she came home with me as we drove west back across Iowa, returning to my home in western Nebraska for a very nice visit, then she returned by plane back to her home -- 2093 miles on my Odometer - I always did LOVE to drive!  It is miraculous that ...

A road trip from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

A road trip! Imagine that! I didn't really need to make the road trip, but what the heck - it was pouring rain and why not!

Actually, I wanted to get that sewing machine to Karen and I had an order to pick up at Thimbles and Things. Both are in the same town and I had been holding off until our retreat at the end of this month. That retreat got canceled and well - I just wanted to cross those two tasks off my list.

Karen is like me - when you get an idea - you want to make it ...

“Home is Where the Quilts Are” – Behind the scenes of BLOCK Magazine Volume 7 Issue 2 from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

A Note From Jenny BLOCK Magazine

Writing to you from the comfort of home is a privilege in this fast-paced world. I often find myself between places, driving long distances or flying to far-off locations to visit quilters around the world. It can be hard to feel comfortable in such circumstances, but I’ve found out something incredible about the quilting world. No matter where I go, as long as I can find a quilt shop, I feel right at home. After all, home is where the quilts are!

Home is such a lovely place to be. I recently dug into my sewing studio for some ...

french knots and hearts . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

It's only appropriate that the embroidery that I put together for our road trip weekend . . .
Was finished just as we entered the last mile into the camp!
Full circle (full heart?), I'd call that!  Here it is in better lighting . . .
I still need to spray out my markings and decide what to do with it now that the stitching is finished.  Heh.

Several of you have asked about where I found my pattern.  It was a vintage freebie from French Knots.  If you've never visited their website and you're an embroidery enthusiast, oh yeah, you really ...

A rolling stone gathers no moss....................... from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I think that's a very appropriate expression for me. I'm all about go-go-go! I know that I have an obsessive personality and I take every advantage of when I'm on a roll! The Sit n Sew days get me so fired up and now the Community Projects days get me even more fired up - well - there's NO stopping me now. I WILL get this mess cleaned up. I'm so excited about the prospect and even in my mind, I keep rearranging things to make it better. But ONLY once some of the other stuff has ...

Sew Alongs for 2020 from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

The Quilting Posse (our little group of road trippers - that would be Ronda, Laura, Shelly and myself) had a day out yesterday. We don't get out that often, but we like to have fun when we do. Our normal day trips to the US are crammed with activities (like Row by Row) and we don't get a chance to have a leisurely stroll around some places. Yesterday was the leisurely stroll day. I didn't need much and I didn't buy much - I do want to support my local quilt shops. Matter of fact, we didn't ...
