Need to KNOWS before Retirement from The Quilt Ladies Book Collection

Are you thinking about retirement ?
Or already retired?

How to Survive Retirement
You have to find fun, excitement, and joy in your days. 40 years to achieve the retirement goal, and you are not happy, you don’t know what to do all day? YOU need a plan.  How to Survive Retirement by Beth Ann Strub

Husband and I retired early, he was 57, and I was 55. Most people hear us say our ages and they ask, “What do you do all day?” VERY, very rarely do they ask, “How do you afford it?” This book has NO money talk, it's all about happiness.   Now in Print and eBook  ! !  To ...

Retirement! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Nope - I'm not retiring. Besides, what would I do when I retire - sew more? I'd probably sew less! Nope - I'm not quite ready, but the day will come, but not yet.

Katheleen retired this week. There's been a countdown for the last couple of months, and now she can do whatever she wants every day!!! A couple of us went and had a mini celebration. It was great to visit in person.

A while back, Katheleen had mentioned that I still owed her a postcard from an exchange that took place YEARS ago. Yikes - that item ...

Officially An Old Broad! from caledonia quilter

First, here is the little Superbowl Sunday quilt, completely finished.

It's so pretty, thanks to the Moda Charm Square pack.
I did learn a valuable lesson, though.  Don't write out a quilt label while you are messaging with the Beach Girls about March appointments for haircuts.  You WILL put the wrong date on the label.

I figured it was close enough that I was not writing out another one.

BIRTHDAY!!!

In the middle of a pandemic, I managed to have my 65th birthday yesterday.  Yay me!!

As I have been saying for months, YES, I had Bailey's ...

retirement prep . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Mind you ... I'm still farther away than I care to be from that actual date, but still, I'm all about advance preparation.  In this case, it's about stocking up now, so when I retire and my indiscretionary funds are limited, I still have plenty of fabric, notions, and patterns to create to my heart's content.

I made great strides towards that end this past weekend.  I visited (well, I had an appointment for) a quilter's estate sale.  And this quilter was very prolific, had a wide range of tastes, and was a most excellent ...

Life Events from Mama Spark's World

There are so many BIG life events happening for me right now. The biggest one (after the grandbaby)is my retirement.   My last full day of work is this Friday. My official retirement date is August 7, but I am taking a week of vacation time. I have so many mixed feelings about retiring. I have worked at the University of Michigan for over 36 years now. I love working in science. I have

With Retirement - Every Day Seems Like Saturday from Quilting My Way

This morning Patrick went to the couch around 4 am. He just couldn't get comfortable. I got to enjoy the bed to myself. I was still up early even then.

I was able to enjoy my beading this morning. I got another 4 rows done.

The third bird is really coming along. Now we can see the top of the head. I'm now at 345/446. It's relaxing.

Then it was time to go to the movies. We saw "Onward." It was really good. I even got emotional at the end. It's funny how an animated ...

An Interesting Day from Quilting My Way

This morning I got moving on washing the quilts that we will be giving out on Saturday. I called the Veterans Museum to let them know what changes we are doing and I told her one of the veterans may show up early because I had to send a letter to him and didn't know if it would get to him soon enough.

Then I got started on baking a Chocolate Swiss Roll Cake. Patrick was wanting a rolled cake and I figured I better get a good recipe. I did some searching and finally found a recipe that ...

Life snippets from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

2019 was a roller-coaster ride.

I know it's been a minute or two since my last post. Life is always the reason. But let's talk about the year that was, shall we?

I realized yesterday that I do not like years that end in the number 9. I remember 2009 was a rough year. 2019 may have been even rougher, but I'm not certain. Time, for most of us, tends to erode the harshness of the edges to where they seem a bit softer than they did at the time we were going through it.

Work was ...

Piecing (Yes Piecing) And Beading from Quilting My Way

Today has been interesting. I was thinking about this retirement thing. Since Patrick has been retired, I seem to be sleeping in till 9 am - which I RARELY did when he was working. He would be up at 6:30 am and I would go back to sleep for about an hour. Then I was up, putting clothes in the washer, and getting my day going. NOW, since he retired....He doesn't get up till around 10 am lately. So, I can't do much around the house because he likes to complain at how I make way too ...

Old Routine VS New Routine in Retirement from Quilting My Way

Okay, I usually don't post this early in the morning on my blog. But this just couldn't be helped. I'm trying to deal with retirement (his) better but right now it's not working.

My old routine was when he would get up and go to work before 7:15 am. He was up at 6:30 am, showered, and out the door by 7:15 am. I would sleep a little while longer or just get up after he left. Most days I was up by 8 am - like this morning. No worries. I could sit ...

The Finer Points of Quiltmaking? from From the Strawberry Patch...

I made this quilt for my parents in 1988 to commemorate their joint retirements. They both worked for the town that I was born and raised in; my father for the highway department and my mother as a radio dispatcher for emergency calls at the communications department. I didn't know a whole lot about quilting back then; I had only completed one or two rudiemtary quilts but, undaunted by my
