Polite Society from Sew Preeti Quilts

Welcome to Polite Society.

Polite Society

Designed in EQ8 and made with the Island Batik collection, Essence, Polite Society is a precut-friendly design published in Precut Quilts Made Easy (A Quilter's World publication).

This is a beautiful collection. Look for it in your local quilt shop. For background, I used the Island Batik Neutral Egg White. The binding is another neutral named Glaze.

Published

I quilted using a variegated thread and my trusted walking foot. You guessed it - my favorite squiggly stitch :-)

Beginner Friendly Quilt Pattern

Polite Society is a super easy, beginner-friendly, jelly roll pattern that you can ...

Draw String Bags, and Reading from Romany Quilting

I'm still working with pink, the Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for April, so decided to make some more draw string bags for the foster kids.  Looking through my big bag of bag making bits and pieces, I found four pink contenders.

There was a black and grey fabric piece which I had pinned some bright pink for the top.  Piggies in pyjamas, and a pretty floral fat quarter I had tucked away which yielded two bags.  So I cut, and stitched, added the linings and the draw string tops, found some suitable cord, and they were all done.

Four ...

Early Bird from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Yes, it's true I said I'd be posting later today if I posted at all. And so if you thought you were going to be able to drink your coffee in peace this morning, you'll be disappointed. Here I am flapping my lips again. There was an early start to my morning, and so I find myself with time to spare.

Since I knew I'd be leaving early this morning, I did this morning's slow-stitching yesterday evening while we watched the news. And so I have two Tiny Treasures to show ...

No Sewing Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It isn't often I go a day without sewing, but yesterday was one of those days. Of course, there's almost always time for slow-stitching, and so it isn't exactly true that there was no sewing at all. This is Tiny Treasure #42. It has fan stitch, lazy daisy, stem stitch, French knots and satin stitch.

And then I realized I still had my Easter quilts out with Easter two days gone. So, hop on off, Easter Bunny and make way for some Spring things. On the wall between the kitchen and dining room ...

Wild Things from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was such a beautiful day yesterday, how could I resist getting outside for a walk? Truth is...I couldn't. First, though, I needed to stitch Tiny Treasure #41:

This one has French knots, stem stitch, fly stitch, backstitch, and lazy daisy.

With that finished, I walked around the house to see what was blooming. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, the cherry trees are starting to bloom. It's a good time for them, with plenty of sunshine in the forecast for the coming week. We're hoping for plenty of cherries this ...

Recharging from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and a fine morning it is! The sun is shining, and it's still warm from yesterday's nice weather. It's going to cool off a little bit by tomorrow, but then we're looking at warmer weather for the remainder of the week. Is it possible that spring has sprung? I sure hope so.

There was no negotiating about getting in some exercise yesterday. I forced myself onto the treadmill, and I felt better for it. There's no way to know for sure if it gave me more energy for the remainder of ...

Good Food on Good Friday from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're pretty happy about our weekend weather...although the weekend has nothing to do with it when you're retired. Every day is Saturday. In any case, we're gearing up for the warmest weather so far this year...into the 70's today and tomorrow. Hopefully, we'll be able to eat outside for the first time.

Yesterday was another busy day, and it ended with a wonderful family dinner. Before I did anything else, I spent a little time on my slow stitching. This is Tiny Treasure #38. It has stem stitch, backstitch ...

Pink and Burgundy from Romany Quilting

Pink is the Rainbow Scrap colour of the month, so it was time to get stitching on my RSC blocks.  I found a pretty pinkish scrap laying around, just the thing to use in my baby quilt.  Quick and easy, they were done in a jiffy.

Four blocks done

Then I laid the blocks out on the floor, to see how they all looked together.  Coming along nicely, with those pretty soft colours.  I like the way the colours march down the quilt, pink, green, red and blue so far.  This will be 25 blocks, so only a few more ...

Busy Kitchen Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Our weather seems to have taken a turn for the better. We were expecting rain all this week. Yesterday turned into a pretty nice day, and it's even nicer today. It makes me happy since we're getting together with the fam. It's always nicer when we're not confined to the house. The temperatures this weekend are supposed to reach into the 70's. That's what I'm talkin' about! If our dreams come true, we'll be able to eat outside on Sunday for the first time this year.

Chain Link top finished from The Cozy Quilter

I finished off my chain link quilt top this week. It has been trimmed now...I should have done that before this picture was taken...  It should be close to single bed size but I am open to adding a border using the background fabric if it isn't. I like the way the coloured chains stand out on the dark background.

I added more stitches to my perforated paper cross stitch picture.  The paper is stiff which makes it easy to hold and stitch.  I find the needle will fall back through the hole when I am coming up ...

Red and Burgundy Drawstring Bags from Romany Quilting

Red is the colour for Rainbow Scrap Challenge this month, so I dug into my big bag of bag making bits and pieces, lining fabrics and cords,  to see what I could find.  I like to make drawstring bags for foster kids from time to time and have been using the RSC colour of the month to keep me on track.  Not much red there at all, just enough for one bag.  This one has cute little teddy bears with red bows on it.  I got this little piece of fabric from a pile of free fabric at my quilt ...

Medically-Induced Coma from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a day with no quilting. It wasn't planned that way, but my morning doctor's appointment wore me out. It wasn't terribly stressful, and the news I got wasn't unexpected. Nevertheless, I still have no answers, and that left me feeling kind of glum for the remainder of the day. I'll say more about this at the end of my post. If you're not interested in someone's health-related woes, you'll be happy to have me leave it for the end so you can make your escape. Don ...

Two Retreats in a Row from The Cozy Quilter

Yes... Christine and I were at quilting retreats two weekends in a row! I had a second set of projects lined up to take to our annual Spring Oxford Guild retreat before the Camp Kintail retreat.  The truth is that I could go on even more retreats and still come up with projects to work on.  Christine is in the same boat!

I finished up my chain link blocks for the vice president's challenge--I have decided to set them on point but have not decided if I want to add sashing or not before sewing them together.  I will ...
