Sunday Stash August 25, 2024 from Quilt Paint Create

I spent Friday at the AQS Grand Rapids Show. When you have a quilt hanging there, you have to go and enjoy it.

The quality of the quilts this year was exceptional. Several quilts looked like paintings, they were so heavily stitched. They didn’t look like fabric. Not something the average quilter will produce, but fun to see what’s possible.

I didn’t buy any fabric at the show or at any of the stops we made on the way home Saturday. I did count the fabric I bought last week.

Clockwise from upper left: rayon batik, red ...

I didn’t add any fabric this week, although I had many buying opportunities. I finished the shirt for almost a yard out. All the shirt details will be in a separate post.

We went to the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild Quilt Show yesterday. Hundreds of great quilts, plus a gift shop and vendors. If you live in the area, the shows continues today from 11am – 5pm at Washtenaw Community College.

While we were out and about after the show, I found a screen printing screen at a thrift shop. That was a first. I’ve wanted to learn ...

Sunday Stash November 12, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

I went to The Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Novi, Michigan yesterday. The exhibits were interesting and the vendors varied from the usual quilt show crowd. Many types of vendors were missing though. Not one thread company had a booth.

I didn’t plan to buy anything, even though many vendors had beautiful fabric at deep discount prices. The Quilts of Valor booth got me though. Because they want their quilts to have a patriotic feel, they were selling fabric that didn’t fit colorwise for $1 a bundle/cut. I picked up the check and the neutral bundle first ...

No change in the numbers.

We went to Quilt National in Athens, Ohio this weekend to see the exhibit. There are always new and different techniques in the quilts on display. It’s interesting to see what people come up with.

We stopped at a quilt shop in Nelsonville, Ohio, but nothing screamed that it needed to come home with me. My drawers runneth over, so if it isn’t screaming at me I’m not buying.

On the home front, I meant to put a close up of Shikishi in last week’s post and forgot. Here it is ...

Road Trip from Quilt Paint Create

The AQS Show in Grand Rapids, Michigan opened Wednesday. If you visit the show, make sure to check out the Ultimate Guild Challenge exhibit. My art quilt group, Art 2 Quilt, is exhibiting with the theme “Road Trip”. Here’s my quilt.

The Ultimate Guild Challenge exhibit has always been one of my favorite exhibits at that show. I am honored and blessed to have a quilt displayed. Many thanks to all the members of Art 2 Quilt, who are always up for a challenge and willing to try new things. They are a talented group, and I have learned ...

No change in the numbers.

We took a trip to Athens, Ohio for Quilt National this week. So many of our favorite stops had either closed, changed hands or moved that we spent a lot of time tracking things down. The quilt shop in the area had brand new owners, and they were still working to get the basics running. It’s a different world out there.

The exhibit was interesting, but not one of our favorites. Art is so subjective. Some years the pieces appeal to us more than others.

I made notes on some of the techniques I ...

Happy 4th to everyone in the United States! Gotta love the long weekend with extra time to relax.

No fabric in, but fabric out for the pillow.

After two finishes last week, I’m not motivated to work on the next thing. Instead I looked online and found a couple patterns that will work with one charm pack. Pulled the background fabric too. Now I need to make a decision and get cutting.

I bought the charm pack a few years ago at the AQS show. I love that the line has that vintage Christmas feel. No sense letting ...
