Q and A Iron Lace 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

I love the iron lace on older houses, and would love some applique lace quilts on the beds, but I already have too many quilts.

Love the second design!

The blank spaces in all my designs with quilting motifs would be filled with simple background fillers, with my first preference being straight lines or cross hatching, either vertical/or diagonal, and would use a thread matching the background for the fillers, contrast for the motifs. The applique pieces would also be outlined just outside the pieces.

Anne’s Autumn Annuals 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

The first quilt design today is actually just one block with borders.

I started this project file ages ago, and it has become a very mixed collection of block designs, which I have tried to separate many times, but have pretty much given up on sorting them into two or three different collections. I have no Idea what I was thinking when I did them, but I have decided to just go ahead and design some quilts with them.

If nothing else I am interested to see what happens as I mix them up!

So far it seems to be ...

A Whiter Shade of Pale 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

Minimal colour, but I love the design above.

Love the added quilting, but I would be very tempted to use thread very closely matching the background.

Sadly, the quilt is lost, but here is a lovely story of an historical quilt.

Super 7s 71, 72 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting!

I don’t think the distorted blocks would be easy to put together, but they certainly add interest to the design.

Also interesting, and more distorted blocks, but this time much easier to put together!

I love the quilting motifs in both designs.

Classy Pieces 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Cheerful colours, interesting design.

This project file was started while demonstrating at a quilt exhibition a few years ago. I selected some blocks, added colours, then started designing quilts. Spent more time talking to friends old and new than concentrating on playing with the blocks, but did spend some time talking about the Electric Quilt program and what is can do with those who wanted more information. I know at least one of them is now using the program.

All of the above plus some quilting!

Tangled Irish Chain Apps 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

More Irish tangles, with both applique and quilting included. The pieced blocks are easy, the applique is only a small portion of the quilt.

Love the first …

…. and the second!

Aunt Flo’s Quilt 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

So pretty, so dainty … like Aunt Flo’s tatting, but with a bit more colour.

No favourite today. Love both of these designs.

My Bright Patches OP 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I haven’t opened this project file for well over a year, and my first impression was that it was applique, but all blocks are pieced, even the few curves.

The second design looks more like it has been put together by piecing.

Cabin Fever Quilted 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

I think I would like the backs of these designs as much, if not more, than the front.

Another option would be to make all the blocks in very pale washed out colours, not just the light areas.

I love hand quilting, but the curves in the quilting look like a great design for machine work.

The steps around the deign above are interesting, but I am trying to work out if I like them or not!

Very simple layout for the coloured parts, but I love the quilting design on the light areas.

More Log Cabin designs mid week ...

Love the different colour backgrounds. They add a whole new dimension to the designs.

From now until Christmas day you will get a double dose of virtual quilt designs. Hope you enjoy seeing them, and have a wonderful real life Christmas.

Love the second design too, but I think the first one id my favourite of these two.

Very interesting design.

Looks like a Christmas morning with wrapping paper decorating the lounge room floor.

Red and Green Quilted 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

I love it., but I love anything in traditional Christmas colours. Perfect size for a queen size bed if the blocks were made 12 inches square.

Love the second design too and the quilting would look great in white thread on the dark red.

Black and Gold Logs and Lillies 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

These designs look more like the back of a pieced Log Cabin quilt.

Almost the same, but this time the Log Cabin block is facing the opposite direction

Curved logs on teh other side of the design above.

Once again the pieced blocks would be turned inside out.

My favourite is the last design, which shows the blocks in the previous design turned inside out.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Quilted Border Beauties 25, 26 from Virtual Quilter

Pretty and dainty.

Because I share my bed with my husband this is not the sort of design or colour combination I could use on our bed, but I can design as many of this style and colouring as I like.

I have never lived with an indoor cat but every so often one gets to admire my quilt designs.

A Whiter Shade on Gold Quilted 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

I love leaving spaces in my designs which can be filled with quilting motifs. I also would outline the applique pieces in these designs.

The spaces left between the motifs and the applique in these designs could be filled with a background filler in a thread matching the background, leaving the motifs to stand out.

Interesting design, interesting colours, interesting applique, interesting pieced blocks, interesting quilting motifs. I like it!

The second design has all the interesting bits of the first, but I like the first one best.

Double Wedding Quilts 25, 26 from Virtual Quilter

At one point in my life I thought it would be a good idea to make a family heirloom wedding quilt … one which could be used by each newly married member of the family for a short time after the wedding. As it turned out I am glad I didn’t do it because I have heard of families where the extended families attended two weddings very close together and far apart so getting the quilt from one couple to another would have been difficult, even if the first couple had returned from their honeymoon.

I still like the idea ...
