Less Logs in the Cabin 96, 97, 98, 99, 100 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting centre, and a very unusual border!

Another interesting centre.

Looks like a road map for a city centre.

Slight change to get the designs above ….

… and another change.

That is all for this week’s quilter’s mid week break, and there will be another chance to stop briefly to look at more Log Cabin quilt designs next week.

Multi Colour Cabin 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

First design of the day is great, though I haven’t finished my first coffee of the day as I post this.

A lot of the second design is the same as the first, but there are some interesting changes.

More changes, still interesting.

It always amazes me that a few changes can make a big difference, and each and every change makes an interesting quilt design. The changes are sometimes just turning some of the same blocks around, or one or two blocks can be changed.

Fifth change and it is still interesting, and I think there are more ...

Cornerstone Logs + Juicy Citrus 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Sometimes it feels like it was only yesterday that I posted last week’s mid week retreat post, and this is one of those weeks! Busy week both at home and socially, and sometimes just busy relaxing! I think I will make another coffee and relax while I write this post, but maybe it might be better to just concentrate on what I am doing.

The first two designs using Cornerstones Log Cabin variations are both interesting, and I like both.

Love the one above.

Some changes but very similar, but I prefer the one before this one.

More changes ...

Purple Logs 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

When I get old I will wear purple … or design purple quilts.

I am wearing some purple clothing as a warning for family and friends of what will happen when I get older than I am now!

The first four Log Cabin designs this week are very similar … minor changes in the centre of the quilt.

I checked teh designs as I selected them in the project file to make sure they were different, but have just double checked because I thought I had missed a repeat! Perhaps i am older than I think I am!

Just did another check ...

Cornerstones in Green and Gold 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

I like the second design!

Very different. I like where the green blocks near the corners are placed, offset from the position of the framed crosses.

An alternative title for the design above could be Square Dance.

The last one has a similar layout of blocks as the first design, but with slightly different blocks … very interesting changes.

I like the position of the mostly green design in the gallery placements!

That is all for this week, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Log Cabin Plus 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

The title refers to the usual Log Cabin blocks with half of the block light, half dark, sharing spaces with all light and all dark Log Cabin blocks.

I like the design above, and wonder what it would look like with the dark fabrics being mixed, perhaps with for the 5 blocks in each corner left as they are, with blues in the rest of the blocks.

I would be tempted to add some applique to the centre of the design above.

The applique I though might fill the centre of this one is more interesting than the diagonal square ...

Logs on the Pile 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting!

I like the middle part, but I think would lighten the outer blocks.

Interesting!

It is now a toss up between the one above, and the first one, which one I like the most.

Perhaps the last one is my choice for the day.

That is all the Log Cabin designs for this week … more mid week, next week.

Cornerstone Logs + Juicy Citrus 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The mandarin tree has been stripped last week, the last of the oranges were falling off yesterday, so a couple of friends left with bags full to clear that, and there are lemons galore on the tree, and a large box full picked and waiting for some homes.

Luckily these designs will keep during the summer.

Love the design above!

I also love the next one!

The one above is interesting, but not on my list of favourite designs.

I think one job on my list for today is to wrap some of those lemons in the box with paper ...

Logs on Point 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 from Virtual Quilter

Mid week again. I guess it happens a couple of days after Monday, and for me it is one way of keeping track of what day of the week it is, as they all feel a bit like Sunday in retirement.

Love the cross, not so impressed with the squares on each side, but sometime in the distant future I will show the new variation.

The one above is interesting, and it could be interesting to reverse the light and dark.

Love the one above … and an idea to replace those squares in the first design,

The last design for ...

Cornerstone Logs A 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

The last time I opened Cornerstones project file there were over 500 quilt designs, all in rather boring colours, so I set about dividing the file into some smaller files, deleted about 100 designs I thought were repeats, and I now have several files using different designs and different fabric choices in each one. I like both of the first two designs … no favourite there.

I would have liked a background fabrics with less black lines than the ones I have used, but got sick of looking through fabric collections, so these designs have got a darker background than I ...

Cornerstone + Blues 106, 107, 108, 109, 110 from Virtual Quilter

I didn’t use the most inspiring colours in this project file but it would take a long time to change them all as there are over 500 quilt designs. I wonder how many repeated designs are included!

I rather like the design above.

Not all the blocks have the half and half light and dark combination of fabrics, which opens up a lot of options when placing blocks in quilt designs.

I like the one above too.

Another one to add to my list of likes!

The last Log Cabin design for this week is almost boring compared to ...

TNT Log Jam 116, 117, 117, 118, 119, 120 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

Also interesting.

I like the one above … it looks as though it would look great on a bed.

Love the one above.

That is all for this week, more Log Cabin designs next week.

If you are thinking about making a Log Cabin quilt I would like you to think beyond the normal, and play with the layout of the blocks.

As always, more Log Cabin designs mid week,, next week.

Log Cabin Mix 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 from Virtual Quilter

Exciting. Certainly more exciting than the average Log Cabin quilts I have seen anywhere.

A bit more mundane.

Another exciting design.

Interesting design above.

Another very interesting design to complete this weeks collection of Log Cabin quilt designs.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Now I have to make sure I get this posted in the middle of the week, and I have checked the day and date three times so far to make sure I get it right.

Red and White Log Jam 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 from Virtual Quilter

That could almost be a pretty flower!

Interesting design above.

Crisscross design is also interesting!

Designs in this project file would be great for sports fans who barrack for the red and white teams.

My favourite for this week’s quilter’s is the first design above.

More Log Cabin design variations mid week, next week, so you can have a five minute coffee break looking at some quilt designs.

Logs or Leaves 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Sampler, plus 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10! from Virtual Quilter

Perhaps that should be logs, twigs, sticks or leaves! The curves are created using straight lines with a slight change of angle for with each change of colour. At this point I haven’t tried to work out the best way to piece these blocks, but I suspect most would be happiest with paper piecing by machine, though I think I would prefer hand piecing. At this point in time there are two variations of the basic block, each in two variations of colour use in the project file, and an ever growing collection of designs.

First some basic designs ...

Logs OP + 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Time to retreat with a coffee … and I think the first design is a good one.

In this project file I create a design, then make a series of minor changes until I get sick of it, and design something new. I like the change from the first to the second one.

Time for a change! Interesting.

So is the next one.

Needing a change again, which will appear some time in a future mid week retreat.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

PS Hopefully I will get them posted on time next week!

Curved Cornerstones + 111.112, 113, 114, 115 from Virtual Quilter

Wow! A bit of a tangle.

Same blocks with a twist.

I like the one above.

Like the one above more than the one above it!

The last one is my favourite for the day, and this weeks Mid Week Log Cabin Retreat.

Bundaleer Logs 61, 62,63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first Log cabin design this mid week!

I think I should go through this project files and draft pieced blocks based on some of these designs … I think it just might work very well with at least some of them.

Another interesting design.

I am thinking that all these designs are interesting, and they could all be done with half square triangles replacing the quilt designs, though I would use some bigger triangles whenever possible.

It will be interesting seeing how they come together as quilt designs. I admit to being totally addicted to drawing both new pieced ...

Hexie Logs 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

Love varying the placement of colours in any quilt blocks, but the results in Log Cabin style pieced hexagons is very effective.

I also always like adding plain blocks amongst pieced blocks, and adding some applique or quilting motifs is a bonus.

Love the design above!

In the design above I like the centre patches! Unusual effect.

I like the colour placement in the centre hexagon.

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Cabin Fever Isolation Area 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design this week.

There are four colourways of the TNT Log Cabin block in this project file, and there are over 500 quilt designs. I suspect that there are some repeats, but I have not been able to find any.

Interesting!

I like the one above.

I can see five spaces which could be filled with some interesting quilting, or some applique could be added before the quilting.

That is all for this weeks Log Cabin retreat, but there will be more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.
