Glad Tidings ~ Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Gee...is it just me, or are the weeks flying by even faster this time of year?  So much to do and not enough time.  That said, it's good for us to take a little 'me time' to sew after all we're doing for our family and friends.

Knowing how busy you are, our task this week will be another quick one.  Let's get started!

Sew (2) Two Patch units together into a Four Patch.  Make a total of (12) of them.  Check measurements stated in the pattern.

Note:  There is an error in the pattern where ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ Glad Tidings REVEALED!!!! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Today is the Big Reveal of the quilt I have chosen for my next Quilt Archaeology event!!  I named this quilt..... Glad Tidings.

My Prairie Dry Goods fabric collection was the perfect match for Glad Tidings!  The truth is you can make just about any quilt from Prairie Dry Goods, what with that luscious range of colors in historic reproduction prints!  I will definitely be making more quilts from Prairie Dry Goods.

Here is the antique quilt that inspired Glad Tidings.  I thought it was the perfect little Christmas quilt that can be pieced in a jiffy.  It will only ...

Dear Prudence Sew~Along Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I hope you had some "me" time to sew all of your Half Square Triangles and trim them all to 1 1/2" square.  You're ready to begin making your Birds in the Air blocks.

They can be a little tricky but have confidence!  Sew slowly if you'd feel better.  Sewing accurately is all about having control over your patchwork.

Arrange (3) Half Square Triangles, all of one matching dark print, and (3) pink triangles (previously cut once diagonally) as shown.

Sew the pieces for the block into rows.  Use your Patchwork Pins (very thin and made for ...

Dear Prudence ~ Quilt Archaeology Revealed! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Today is the Big Reveal of the quilt I chose for my next Quilt Archaeology event!!  I named this quilt..... Dear Prudence.

I really loved this quilt the moment I found it.  I love the Birds in the Air blocks with the pink background running through them all, and the variety of dark prints that really pop against the pink ground.  The dark inner border gives a frame to the blocks, and a different pink print completes the quilt.  Oh, so vintage!

My Farmer's Daughter fabric collection was the perfect match for Dear Prudence!  I was so jazzed to ...

Abigail's Sew Along ~ Part Five from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Welcome to the last post in making our Abigail's Doll Quilt.  This is the fun and exciting part....where we assemble all of the parts we've made, and make the quilt top!

This is a very unusual little quilt to assemble.  I truly believe my Abigail was cut from a larger quilt, and the way it was cut, and the layout of the blocks and such, is exactly what I love about it.  It's very unique.  The making of the center may seem odd to you...and it is, but follow the directions in the pattern, and ...

Abigail's Sew Along ~ Part Four from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

We're humming along on our Quilt Archaeology adventure.  Our blocks are now all complete and we are onto the last step in preparation for assembly!  Yay!

This week, we're making our pieced cornerposts.  Easy, peasy!

Gather (2) Half Square Triangles and (2) Aged Muslin squares.  Sew a Half Square Triangle to an Aged Muslin square; press to the square.  Make (2) units.

Sew the units together as shown to make the cornerpost unit.  Repeat to make a total of (7) cornerpost units.

That's it!  Next week....we'll put them all together into our wonderful quilt.  I ...

Abigail's Sew Along ~ Part Three from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Time is flying by....way too fast as it always does.  I hope you're enjoying your summer thus far, and finding a little time to sew here and there.

Now that you have all your rows sewn and measured, it's time to make blocks.

Sew four rows together to make one block measuring 4 1/2" square.  Repeat to make a total of (8) blocks.  Done for the week!  We're in the home stretch now.

In The Studio this week..... I have finished a new FREEBIE pattern featuring my Folk Art Star, Primitive Plaid and Primitive Traditions ...

Abigail's Sew Along ~ Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Did you make Half Square Triangles in your sleep last week?  I don't mind making them at all....you sew, and sew, and sew while watching a good movie.  Win, win!

Back when Abigail would have been learning to stitch and piece, her mama would have given her an assignment of work, and she would have called it a stint.

Here's your stint for the week. You have a lot of chain sewing.  That does not mean there's no work involved, though.  I am a stickler for measure, measure, measure!!  Do as much work as you're ...

Abigail's Sew-Along Part One from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Hello, dear quilting friends!  Welcome to my next Quilt Archaeology sew-along for Abigail's Doll Quilt.

Before I begin, I must take this moment to THANK YOU all so very much for the unbelievable amount of pattern downloads for this project.  WOW - It makes me so very happy that you like Abigail as much as I do.

Many, many thanks to those of you who purchased items and received the free kit.  Your continued support of my little business keeps me going, and inspires me to find projects that we can do together, and have some fun.  I am so ...

Abigail's Doll Quilt ~ Quilt Archaeology Reveal!! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found this sweet old quilt!  There are so many things I love about it...the obvious age and wear, the simplicity of the blocks, and the block set.  After careful study, I found that this little quilt was cut from a larger quilt that likely had even more wear, and was no longer acceptable to its owner.  The quilt has a lindsey/woolsey type of backing fabric, and the binding is also very old and worn, leaving me to believe the quilt was cut and made for a child a very, very ...

Monday's With Marcus II ~ Laura Berringer of Marcus Fabrics from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I really can't believe this is our last Monday's With Marcus for this second series.  Boy, the weeks have just flown by.

Today, we showcase our super talented Art Director, Laura Berringer.  Laura designs many fabric lines for Marcus' Studio 37.  I'll bet you have admired and purchased her fabric and didn't know it!

Laura used her Spice Bazaar fabrics to make these quilt-as-you-go coasters.  Fun stuff.  You can access the free pattern here.  All of us at Marcus Fabrics hope you have enjoyed the many projects we have offered these past weeks.  When visiting Marcus ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ October Treat ~ Part Four from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Wow - these weeks have flown by so quickly!  I've been looking forward to posting each week for both Quilt Archaeology and Monday's With Marcus.  Let's get down to Quilt Archaeology business first.  Can you believe this is our last week?

Here is where we finished last week.

Now, we're adding setting triangles to turn our quilt center on point.  We do this all the time, and piecing setting triangles are fairly straight forward.  THE most important thing is to cut the squares in half with precision.  Have you ever had your triangle cup?  Have you made ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ October Treat ~ Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Here we are, already on part two of our October Treat sew along.  I hope you found some useful tips from my last post about connector corners.  I'll bet you're all experts now!

This week will be super easy, peasy because we're making larger Flying Geese using the same method as last week.  So, you can put your skills to the test once again.

You'll use (8) H pieces and (4) A pieces to make (4) Flying Geese.  Be sure to measure them to check for accuracy.

Gather the small center star you made last week ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ October Treat ~ Part One from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Welcome to my October Treat sew along.  I always enjoy sewing with friends!  In case you are just joining us, my Quilt Archaeology sew alongs are about old, antique quilts I've 'dug up' and want to  replicate.  Here's the old quilt we will be making.

I made a Double Sawtooth Star for the center of the quilt instead of a single Sawtooth Star because it just felt right.  So, we will begin with the smaller Sawtooth Star.

I am assuming everyone has cut their fabrics ahead of time.  If you still need the October Treat pattern, it's ...

October Treat ~ Quilt Archaeology Reveal! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I'm so jazzed!!  Today is the day I can reveal my new Quilt Archaeology sew along project, called October Treat!

This sweet antique is the quilt (or quilt block) that inspired me.  It has a lot of wonderful elements to it and was fun to play with.  While this little gem is very versatile, it always spoke "Halloween" to me!
Quilt Archaeology ~ October Treat ~ Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts
I took a little creative license with this quilt as I added a small black star inside the larger black star.  The original antique only has one star.  If you ...

Learn From My Mistake from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

This quilt was made a few years ago.  It has a big problem.  Perhaps you can't tell from the photo, but it's very apparent in person.
You see, I chose a very sweet background print with colorful flowers for this scrappy quilt.  (The quilt is featured in my Tokens of the Past: Nine Patch Reverie pattern and is one of many quilts in the pattern.)  The little print is in a grid format.
When the top was complete,  I knew there was something wrong....it was as if the background was psychedelic!  It kinda whirled, and swirled, and ...

Antebellum ~ Quilt Archaeology Reveal! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Finally!  Today is the day I can reveal my new Quilt Archaeology sew long project called Antebellum!

This will be a long post, so plop in a comfy chair and grab your favorite drink (Iced tea for me!) and read on....
Here's the old quilt we will replicate.  It may be a block in a larger quilt, but I think it makes a pretty great small quilt.
As a country, we're all coping with this quarantine together, and being it's Memorial Day weekend, the summer is around the corner, and so is July 4th, I thought an ...
