Sunday Chat – Garden, Cooking, Sewing and a little Philosophy from From My Carolina Home

Our little goldfinch flock continues to visit the smorgasbord, and a few cardinals are now stopping by regularly. I think I have a mated pair and two of their juveniles. This is a juvenile male, he looks a little moth-eaten, with his baby feathers molting and the new brighter red ones growing. I’ve seen another female juvenile, and she was being fed by an adult. Pretty soon they will know how to get food on their own.

There is a pair of downy woodpeckers living nearby as well. This is the female.

When she scooted through the cage, more ...

Finishing Quadrille from From My Carolina Home

Are you ready to see the last bits on finishing the 2023 Scrap Dance Quadrille Mystery Quilt Along? Today I’ll show you the final details. When we left off, the quilting was done and I had put some water on the blue marks, only to have them return the next day.

I was not happy that I would have to actually wash the quilt. I didn’t want to soak the whole thing as I didn’t want the crinkled look to a quilt for competition. I wanted it to be crisp and flat. But I also didn’t ...

Quilting Quadrille from From My Carolina Home

For only the second time, I wanted to custom quilt a large quilt. My first one was Minuet, that I did with a large curved ruler. This time, I wanted to have some free motion feathers, some ruler work, more modern with some graphic lines. Loading the quilt on the longarm, the batting chosen was Dream Orient, now called Dream Bamboo. I like the light weight and breathability of the bamboo blend for a summer quilt. At this point, I did a lot of stand-and-stare, trying to make decisions on what to do in each section. In the end, I ...

Project Progress from From My Carolina Home

The forecast is for rain all week so it seems like it will be a good week to make some progress on projects. I have several in the planning stage, but only one is actually underway. I hope to finish quilting Quadrille this week and move it to the binding stage.

Tearing up my sewing space last week with the arrival of another new machine put me back a bit. But my new table should arrive on Thursday, then I can put the mess back in order. It didn’t help that I have two more projects in the planning ...
