Outside Job from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a day to be tired yesterday. As I mentioned, I had at the top of my to-do list to pick a bucket of weeds. Happily, there weren't many, but it required just as much getting up and down as it would have had there been more. I made it all the way around the house and finished the job...for now. But man, I needed to take my cue from Smitty after that.

While I was out picking weeds, I had some Savory Zucchini Cheddar Quick Bread baking in the oven. When it ...

Moving Slow from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I had a lazy day yesterday. I spent some time on my slow stitching, and then wasted a good part of the day. Probably I was dragging my feet getting to my quilting project. Once I got started I made a good amount of progress, but there's still a long way to go.

Before I did any sewing, I churned the Cherry Sherbet I made the day before. It's a recipe from the Pioneer Woman. Probably we won't eat this right away since we have several dessert options available, but I wanted to ...

Homebody from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm happy to say we got all our errands run yesterday, and so we're staying home today. It doesn't mean there aren't things standing between me and my sewing. At least I'm home, and I can do battle with the obstacles. Obstacles include pulling another bucket o' weeds, and then I have one housekeeping chore to do. Also, it's a lesson day for my new Photoshop Elements version. I'm hoping I'll learn something useful in this second lesson. Lesson one was devoted to poking around at the various ...

Famore Rotary Cutter Review on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Okay, so I don't like change.  I know most people say that, but I really don't like change.  Of course, this

translates into my quilting life as well.  When I find a tool I like, I like it for life.  That would be why I am using the same rulers (Quickline designed by Nancy Crow) as I did 30 years ago.  Not to mention, I have my square rulers (Bias Square from the Patchwork Place) and rotary cutter by Kai.  When they wear out, I just check on ebay for replacements.

That all said, I still keep my ...

Quilt Shop: Be Sew Creative; Las Cruces, New Mexico from ... Cat Patches

Good afternoon, my friends. We had a busy day today. We visited both the MacDonald Observatory and the Fort Davis National Historic Site earlier this afternoon. I'll write a separate post for each venue tomorrow. But I promised you a quilt shop post, and a quilt shop post you shall have.

I could have chosen from two different quilt shops in Las Cruces. This one was the closest to us, and it was a good one.

Here's how the building looks from the outside.

And this shop will go down as one of the friendliest shops I've ...

The Book Report: Blog Style from Terificreations's Weblog

Way back in 2022 Gailen Runge and I had a long chat on Quilted Features about a whole lot of things, psanky eggs, Sew Emoji. Our first official meeting was at Quilt Market in Houston while working with Generation Q Magazine, I got to make a speedy delivery for Jake Finch.  One of my favorite things… Continue reading The Book Report: Blog Style

Distracted from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. As I look out my window, there's some fog, but we're expecting a day of sunshine that will extend for the next several days. It'll be Mike's golden opportunity to finally finish off the trailer brakes. The poor man has been working on them for weeks, as weather permits. He's down to the last possible problem, and then they should be in proper working order. I'll be glad to know it's all finished since this is the sort of thing that bubbles up in the background of my feeble ...

Far Flung Flannel from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. There was a little of everything going on here yesterday. The treadmill got a workout, as did the vacuum and dust cloth. We worked fast so we could get back to our sewing. But no morning can get started without a little slow stitching. I stitched up Day 4's Tiny Heart. This one was easy.

Already, I've peeked at this morning's heart. It's a little more complicated. None of the dreaded stitches have shown up yet. (I'm looking at you, Cast-on Stitch and Bullion Stitch.)

With that finished, I took the ...

A Day for Experimentation from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. My day turned into a kitchen day yesterday, although I had some time to get started on the quilting too. When I finished my slow-stitching, the kitties were champing at the bit to get outside. I'm pretty sure I heard Sadie discussing how happy she was to be finished with the paper-piecing. Smitty had to agree, although of the two helpers, he was the most charitable.

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I was getting ready to test a recipe for America's Test Kitchens. It took a couple of hours to get it ...

The End is in Sight! from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I can tell you right now it's going to be a banner day. Today I will finish the 36th of 36 Tiny Houses. Sadie thinks that calls for a celebration.

Purretty please?

Smitty was too busy hassling the squirrels to have an opinion about it. Squirrel hunting season is almost over.

When I had myself up and around and dressed, I got a head start on dinner. I baked this yummy skillet cornbread. This is a recipe my friend Debi shared. I have several recipes for cornbread, but this one is my favorite.

Itching to Stitch from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a day of relaxation here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch as we fortified ourselves for the next two long days of driving. Sometime Saturday afternoon, we'll be home. I know a certain cat who is so ready to be there. Yesterday he spent some time cleaning himself up so he'd look his best when he faced off with the mice and squirrels.

My slow-stitching took a backseat to sight-seeing this trip. It's generally only on days when we do nothing else that I have time for a good session of ...

DecoBob ThreadTalk on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Let me start this by saying I am in no way affiliated with Wonderfil.  In fact, as you might have noticed, I never monetized my blog 'cause I really feel like we have enough ads in our lives and I'm not adding to the clutter.

Wonderfil is a thread manufacturer in Alberta, Canada.  I came across their thread by mistake back in 2020 when I saw somewhere (I think it was on the AQS site) that they were giving away free samples of Wonderfil thread.  Because all the national quilt shows had been canceled that year,  they had all ...
