Capriccioso – Take 2 from Quilt Obsession

Yet another project has been brought out to be worked on again. About three and a half years ago, I started the Capriccioso quilt from Millefiori Quilts 3. When I began it I was using this grey stripe.

When I opened the first Capriccioso project box, I immediately decided I wanted to switch that grey stripe for something else. To me the stripe felt too strong.

So I decided to try this grey print and put together this small piece of the top. The it sat for about a month. After that I looked at it again and decided to ...

Fireworks! from Quilt Obsession

There’s another project box that got opened. Upon opening it, I found this – everything for Christmas Fireworks (Midnight Fireworks from Millefiori Quilts 1) with all the centre stars done.

Beneath the stars? All the pieces to finish each of the 35 blocks.

The stars began with this fabric. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it as I knew it was perfect for some fussy cutting/printing. I’ve used it in this Christmas Fireworks project and plan to use it in another project that’s not yet started.

When I began this way back in ...

Pastel Winding Ways from Quilt Obsession

Another project box got pulled out over the past year. I couldn’t remember what was in it so when I opened it to find four stacks of pieces for 4.5″ Winding Ways blocks I was thrilled! I like these small ones but I can’t wait to play with the 3″ Winding Ways Inklingo collection that is going to be released sometime soon. I’m already thinking of what fabrics might be just perfect for it – tiny blocks in which every seam involves curved piecing? The perfect fit for me!!

There was a little stack of completed blocks ...

Hexagon of Hexagons from Quilt Obsession

This is another of the projects I’ve been working on – a hexagon of hexagons. Right now it’s a hexagon but it will evolve into something else. I haven’t got anything specifically planned — yet. So I’ll just keep adding rounds until it gets to a certain size and then decide where to go with it next. As of right now it measures 11.5″from top to bottom and 13″ from side to side.

The back of it after grading the seams and pressing. With this many tiny pieces, grading the seams will make a huge difference ...

Nocturne from Quilt Obsession

One of the projects I started over the past year is Nocturne from Millefiori Quilts 3. I had fun going through fabrics looking for just the right one because, of course, I was going to be using the Inklingo Nocturne collection to do some fussy-cutting/printing.

This was the fabric I eventually chose.

Two project boxes are being used for this – one with just the pieces of the black background fabric.

And one with everything else plus the various threads I’m using for the project.

The blocks are quick to stitch. I surrounded four of them with the black ...

And Yet More Fiesta! from Quilt Obsession

I am not even close to finishing the Fiesta top. I keep forgetting that even though I laid out the blocks and thought I had the block placement all figured out, I’ve been changing it as I go — so it’s not just a matter of sewing the blocks together now but moving them around and — well, just changing things on every row since the second one!

So all I’ve got are some more pics of a few of the blocks. First a pretty blue star block.

Some of the star blocks have a frame, so to speak ...

More Fiesta from Quilt Obsession

The colourful Fiesta blocks are the perfect antidote to the grey days of winter that we’ve had so many of this year. I have enough of the fabric left to use in some other project that calls for some wild and colourful fussy cut pieces.

Gold Star Block IMG_3205wtmk

The effects from fussy cutting/printing a fabric always is a bit of a surprise until the pieces are sewn together. The fabric I used to fussy cut/print for Fiesta has definitely been that – and then some. It was fun to see each block as I finished it.

Fiesta!!! from Quilt Obsession

This book arrived and I want to make almost every one of the quilts in it! So it’s a very good thing I got Dance of the Poinsettias done before the book arrived.

Millefiori Quilts 4 IMG_3196

The cover quilt is called Fiesta Gitana and I knew I had to make it the second I saw those skinny stars. An Inklingo Fiesta Gitana collection was released and I was off to the races.

In no time I had all the pieces printed, cut out and in a box that was just perfect for the Fiesta quilt.

Dance of the Poinsettias from Quilt Obsession

I know, I know — it has been an extremely long time since I blogged. I am going to give it yet another try and hope to post twice a week — at least at first. I’ve missed blogging and, given the fact that this is like a diary of my quilting, I know I’m going to look back and wonder what I was doing!

Dancing Poinsettia TopIMG_3118wtmk

One thing I was doing was finishing Dance of the Poinsettias, my version of Can Can from Millefiori Quilts 3 made using the Inklingo Can Can collection. As it’s winter and the roof garden ...

Mariner’s Whirl from Quilt Obsession

Where have I been? I’ve been around but had nothing quilt-related to write about or photograph. Thankfully, something finally jolted me out of the creative doldrums!

Mariner's Whirl IMG_2908wtmk

It’s called Mariner’s Whirl, which is a Jinny Beyer design (Beyer 382-12) for which three sizes of Inklingo collections (12″, 16″ and 20″) were released. That was what really got me back to working on projects but – surprising myself completely, I chose the 20″ collection to make first. I have ideas about making something with the 12″ size as well, but I wanted to play with the largest size.

And it ...
