It is going to be a very busy week, and I hit the ground running yesterday with the turn-in for the Mountain State Fair competitions. My final count is 22 items submitted – 5 in Photography, 4 in Quilting, 7 in Amateur Crafts, 6 in Senior Crafts. I packed it up Monday morning, and took it over to the fair. I got my entries sorted into categories and did one category at a time. The proper tag goes on each one, and I bring my entry sheet with me to be sure I do it right. I put the tag on ...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and some time to relax this past week once the festivities were over. I have managed to do a bit of knitting this week as well as some un-sewing (more on that later in this post!). During the month of December, I worked on knitting a new hat for my husband whenever he was out or otherwise occupied. Despite my best efforts, I did not get it done in time and he ended up unwrapping an unfinished gift. He was surprised and pleased with my gift to him, which makes it all worthwhile ...

read moreA lot has been going on lately in this sewing room of mine. After spending two solid days of spring cleaning I spent some quality time in there last week.
First, my "Lazy Eyes" quilt came back from my quilter (the fabulous Shirley Jackson), and I got the binding on it. It was nice to finally check off something from my UFO list. I love how it turned out, but I need to rename it. I'm still thinking about that. It might be inspired by the Post-It Note look!
I didn't realize how grainy the photos are until ...

read moreWelcome to a new week! Fall seems to be flirting with us as the leaves on the trees try on little hints of color and the weather gets cooler. My favorite season! Plus fall and winter just seem to be made for quilting, don't they? And I've definitely been doing some of that this week. So let's see how last week's list went...
January is always a tough month for me…getting through 5 weeks of winter can be grueling. I stay in Wisconsin, and take advantage of the snow with some cross country skiing and snow shoeing. AND I decorate with paper pieced snowmen. They can stay in place until Valentine’s Day or beyond, so it’s an easy decorating theme.
These 2 cuties are from my newest book, PAPER PIECING ALL YEAR ROUND. With 24 block patterns and lots of cute projects, this book is a good bargain.

The snowball borders are finally sewn on the Wheel quilt. Wheee!Snowball border on the Wheel quilt |
Oh, joy! Not that the quilt is done but at least the top is finished. It's too large to get a full photo right now. Hopefully that can happen once it's quilted. Next will be an excavation of my stash to see what white fabrics lurking there could become a back. I can't remember any right now but am certainly not purchasing more before checking the ... read more
My mother used to quote the first two lines to us but I didn't know the author although I'd read many of Frost's poems. I'm fortunate to have a large family that gets along. We write; we call; we visit. What a blessing to just belong to this group; people who have known you all your life. {Although ... read more
For the past several years, my southern quilt group has sponsored a sewing day for Ryan's Case for Smiles. The Tampa Bay group is very active, with many scheduled sew days at various quilt shops, and with private groups.
Last Wednesday, three coordinators arrived, loaded down with sergers, fabric, and sewing machine kits. We began at 11 am, and with the help of many friends and neighbours to tackle the non-sewing jobs, such as pinning, turning, pick up and delivery to the various machines, and folding the completed pillowcases.
We completed 290 pillowcases by 2:45, and another 200 ... read more
The second runner will be given to a friend.
The third one will be donated to the church bazaar.
Next, I quilted and bound the baby quilt I showed last week. I used some light green solid fabric for the binding.
The backing is some flannel I had in my stash. I had to make it a bit wider so the orange stripe was added. I ... read more
