My Medallion 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

I haven’t made many medallion quilts, but have loved every bit of making them, especially the bit where I could change the design a little in each round … and sometimes changing it completely. The most special one was a Round Robyn … several of us made a central block, then it was passed around for others to add borders. Another started with a house block, and then followed instruction to add a path, a garden, and a fence.

I liked the idea of reinventing a block to use it in each applique round, with pieced borders separating them. I love ...

A 9 Patch ‘n’ Apps Christmas 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Wow! Sometimes I impress myself, even if nobody else is impressed. Love the design above.

I like the second one, but compared to the first it is a bit dull.

My Bright Blocks 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

Not so basic piecing, with sharp points, curved seams and set in corners … something I would do by hand, along with the applique.

Second design is back to basics, but I prefer the first one.

Border Beauties 51, 52 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first … the distortion of using block designs in odd shaped spaces in borders makes for very interesting borders.

I like the borders in the second design too, but was intrigued with the result of using a square applique block in the sashing, and exactly the same block in the sashing squares, but with different colouring.

Distortion again!

Thank goodness Electric Quilt will print out blocks as they are in a quilt design, not in the original shape as designed.

My Medallion Too 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

Looks old fashioned, and I like it.

Different colours, still old fashioned, but I like this one better even if it looks as if it is missing the binding.

Books and Botanicals 11 from Virtual Quilter

This series of designs was started as a challenge to myself, to design a large quilt with some of the blocks looking like pages of a botanica, with art work depicting plants, along with details of the leaves, flowers and seeds … and after about 15 years it has a long way to go … but at least I have the layout I like, and know how many pages, 24, of flowery pages I need.

My challenge for the next 12 months is to work at drawing those pages.

I challenge all of you who are learning to use Electric Quilt to ...

Autumn Daze Quilting 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Not a lot of room for quilting, but there is some!

My favourite of these two is the second one.

Love the first, but then I always love spaces to fill with quilting …

… which means I also love the second design.

Like that border … I can imagine a few frustrating moments making it though!

The cat likes the second, and so do I.

Red and Green 35, 36 from Virtual Quilter

At long last my home decor is starting to turn red and green, with touches of gold, as trees, swags and wall hangings are escaping from storage.

Love the second design … mainly because there is room for quilting to shine around the applique blocks.

My Medallion Too 4, 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Rather old fashioned colour scheme. This project was started way before we moved into our current house, but the colours match the very outdated, floral carpet here. I suspect the carpet was purchased from a local store when on sale … all the houses I where I have seen the same and a similar carpet were all renovated or built about the same time, and was possibly old stock even then!

This one looks old and faded … perhaps an antique top, as there is no quilting!

Another one to match our old carpet, though there would be too many florals with ...

Applique Elegance 7, 8, 9 from Virtual Quilter

Pretty.

Elegant.

Lucky last is my favourite of these three, and these are the last in this project file. I have not added a great number of new project files for quite some time, but with new blocks being added to my collection, and old ones being sorted, there will be new project files in the future.

Simple Squares {Finished Quilt} from Little Bunny Quilts

Today I'm excited to show off my finished quilt for our April Island Batik Ambassador challenge! Our theme was "creative borders and bindings".

As an Island Batik Ambassador, I am provided with samples of various lines of Island Batik fabrics, Aurifil thread, Accuquilt products, and Hobbs Batting to use and share with you!

My quilt is made entirely of 4.5" squares cut from Island Batik stash builder rolls and 4.5" strips of black solid batik to break up the inner 64-patch from the pieced outer border.

I also used the same black solid for the backing and ...

Blocked Borders {April IBA Challenge} from Little Bunny Quilts

I've taken my cut squares for my April Island Batik Ambassador project from squares...

... to a quilt center...

... to a finished quilt top!

My first border is black Island Batik Solid. I used my remaining cut squares for my final border. I am so excited about this quilt top because it is a fun, simple quilt (no triangles!) that has a fun *pop* of black that kind of gives it a three-dimensional look.

For the quilting, I am planning to use a teal varigated thread that will blend with my batiks but will contrast with my solid black inner ...

EQ OP Playtime from Virtual Quilter

After preparing for yesterday’s post I browsed through the virtual quilt designs in the EQ OP project file, and came across the design above, and thought the border looked a bit crowded so started playing.

Not quite social distancing as we are all encouraged to do at the moment, but I like the more spaced out version.

Then I wondered what it would be like used as sashing!

Interesting! Not too sure what blocks you would put inside a sashing which is half as wide as the blocks though.

Maybe a signature quilt … present the quilt at a special ...
