Interesting.
The block in the corners of the main body of this design is a modification of Mexican Rose 2, found in the Electric Quilt Block library. It is probably the most used of all the applique blocks, and has been twisted, turned, expanded, reduced and pulled to pieces to create many modified blocks for use in many of the project files I have in my EQ file.
Love the second design, which features some other applique blocks which I have modified a few times.

Select a variety of blocks from the Electric Quilt Library, add some fabrics of your choice and use a basic straight setting and start playing.
You just might find your next masterpiece quilt.

Love the change of background colour, and the space it provides for quilting to shine.
I was looking for something different in the colour scheme for this project file, and I am surprised at how well purple, yellow and green work together.

I like every design in this project file … the combination of the colours and the blocks seem to work pretty much every way I twist and and shake them up!
Love the second design!
read moreI like it … old fashioned and restful.
I like the second one too, for the same reasons, but like it more than the first because there is applique!

Now the senior officer is leading his men in a Christmas parade!
I love baby blocks as a quilter, and loved building with baby blocks a long time ago, then watching my children building and knocking them down … now love watching a new generation doing exactly the same thing.
Should have mixed up some balls with the blocks as a tower of blocks is a great target for a rolling ball.
Love an old fashioned collection of toys!
More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week!
read moreNot so basic piecing, with sharp points, curved seams and set in corners … something I would do by hand, along with the applique.
Second design is back to basics, but I prefer the first one.
read moreLog Cabin quilts have military precision in the placing of the pieces, add some dainty applique and they immediately look more dainty all over.
The precision is still there but certainly allows the soft touch to shine.
Love the design above … beautiful!
The last two for today are very similar Log Cabin layouts, but the applique blocks are more different …
… and I like the change!
My favourite is top right … love it.
That is all for this week’s Log Cabin retreat, but there will be more next week.
read moreNot sure about the colours in the first design, but love the design itself. Perhaps it is the applique which makes it a winner for me.
Love the centre block in this one … it works much better on point than it does in a straight setting.
read moreFirst one looks neat and tidy, like a small well laid out town if you have an over developed imagination. Town square in the centre housing on each side, parks in the corners and country all round.
Love the second design … just as a nice quilt design!
read moreI like the design, and the colours even though I think they would look like Christmas all through the year, but then a little bit of Christmas everyday would be nice.
The second design has me thinking that a simple pieced star block in low contrast fabrics would make a very interesting background for applique blocks. I feel a new project file is about to be opened, though an alternative approach would be to use the star shape as background quilting around the applique!
read moreLove the first design for today. Who would have thought that such a bland change of background colour could have such a great effect!
I like the second one too, but it doesn’t excite me as much as the first one.
Like the last one, but not as much as the first one … the applique blocks in the corners are too busy … maybe they should just be quilting motifs, or a variety of less busy appliques.
read moreIt is busy, but I like it anyway.
Like the second one too … it has room for the quilting to shine.

Still not y colours, more my style, but still love the first one more than this.
read moreThe quilting motif in the first design today is based on one of the pieced blocks. I love the flowing lines.
The second design has the blocks set on point and looks much busier.
My favourite for today is the first one.
