The Porch Garden from A Quilted Passion

I bought my house just nigh on 2 years ago and The Porch Garden was full of yellow Bearded Iris, Lilies, and Hosta (see pic below).  Everything was beautiful, until it wasn’t, if you know what I mean. The Hosta turned brown and none of the blooms lasted as long as I’d hoped they would.

By the end of last summer, I decided to pull it all out. I gave some away and relocated some to the side and back yards.  Starting with a blank canvas and a goal to create year-round interest, I planted a few evergreens ...

Wonderful World of Color* from From the Strawberry Patch...

It's a beautiful time of year right now, there's color everywhere. . .and the quilt blocks under the needle in the sewing room are no exception! I'm still plugging away on the Barn Star Sampler, playing catch up for time missed.I'm back at it again today, stitching blocks. It's hard, though, when I'm distracted by the wonderful world of color that surrounds me just outside the door. What

I'm Still Here... from From the Strawberry Patch...

Don't send out the bloodhounds yet, I'm still here! It's been a busy, busy week. Isn't that great to think about? A busy, busy week! Yes!! After months on end of nowhere to go and nothing to do, life is ratcheting up again, my calendar is filling every day and it feels so good! This past week Lynnleigh and I made a trip to Pineapple Fabrics to get her supplies for Quilt Camp with Nana! She will

Welcome, Spring! from From the Strawberry Patch...

After a few false starts it looks as though spring is here to stay! These white Iris are from my childhood home, I dug up a little clump of them before my parents sold the home and moved twelve years ago. Since then, I have divided them at least four times, our daughter in the Capital City has a clump of her own (which may have also been divided by now)! These Iris were added more recently,

And So It Grows... from From the Strawberry Patch...

Last year was the first year for the perennial garden just outside my sewing room. Some of you might who've been reading along for awhile might remember that we made stepping stones to place in the garden while it was being laid out and that four of them were personalized for the grandchildren. Here's Gregory a year ago with a side-by-side shot from the same spot today for comparison; things are

Almost Amish?? from Appalachian Quilts

I have some Amish friends in Berlin, Ohio.  When the kids were younger, we used to take a weekend and camp on their farm.  There were 3 farm ponds for them to play in and it was a great getaway for us.  Sometimes my sister and her 3 kids would go with us.  Sometimes my almost brother and his 3 kids would go with us.  Sometimes it was both.  (Alvin even asked us once when it was ALL of us if my almost brother was Mormon to have 3 wives and 9 kids.  LOL)  We were awakened in the mornings ...

'Tis the Season from From the Strawberry Patch...

With the month of May come big changes, seasonal ones! Yep, the strawberries are ripe at our local U-pick farm, each and every berry is absolutely as delicious as it looks. The porch quilt has been updated to reflect this full-fledged launch into spring and sunny days ahead. Much more time has been spent lately out-of-doors than inside. It feels so good to get out and to get dirt under my
