Friday check in: birthday week, mini in the mail, and a finish! from With Strings Attached

Look who began a "prime" year on Wednesday.   The Facebook post with this photo garnered 139 "likes" and 94 comments to his surprise and gratification.   (I gave him three new pairs of his preferred suspenders and a large-screen clock/calendar, not-so-tactfully described as a "dementia clock" on the Amazon listing.)

Earlier this month I made this spiral quilt and wrote that I'd like to try the concept with other blocks.  Now I have! It's my entry for the 2023 MQG Mini Swap. I mailed it to my swap partner earlier this week.

Though the swap instructions said 24 ...

2022 - My quilting year in review from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's the end of the year, so it's time for my end of year wrap up.  At the end of each year I like to look back on the goals I set myself at the start of the year.

Here's what I planned to work on in 2022:

1. Licorice Allsorts Block of the Month from Wendy Williams

I've finished all the embroidery, and pieced about 40% of the blocks.  These blocks are tricky! But I love it and am keen to finish this quilt in 2023.

2. Ruby Star

I've finished this quilt and ...

2021 - My quilting year in review from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's 31 December, so time for my end of year wrap up.  At the end of each year I like to look back on the goals I set myself at the start of the year.

2021 finishes

My priorities for 2021 were:

1a, 1b, 1 c, 1d and e... Millefiori Quilts

I've done quite well on that goal.  My Raindrops are Falling on my Head quilt is just finished, and I'll blog about it soon. I've called this quilt Bollywood. You can see it in the background on this photo.

I also finished Dancing Cheek to ...

Pandemic Sampler from Wendy's Quilts and More

My Pandemic Sampler is not going to be finished in 2021 after all. I've only got 4 more pages to go, but each page takes me about two weeks when I'm working on it every night.

Everything was going fine when I last posted about it back in July, but then in August I started having real problems with my right hand.  My middle finger became really swollen, and then the tendon in my palm tightened up.  I couldn't do any hand work for about 10 weeks.

Fortunately my hand is better now (thanks to 2 steroid ...

Something different from Wendy's Quilts and More

This week I'm throwing it over to you.  I've been super busy this week organising a conference and dinner for 160 people, so I haven't had any time for quilting.

Almost ready for the big reveal

Yes, contrary to popular belief, I do have a job! I work for a great group of people, but once a year I have to organise a full day of professional development training and a fancy dinner. We're holding it somewhere quite special this year, so I'll take some photos.

I'll have recovered by next weekend and have ...

Holidaying at home from Wendy's Quilts and More

I'm currently on holiday in the South Island of New Zealand, as some of you will know from my posts on Instagram and Facebook,

We flew to Christchurch, and then drove to Dunedin for a few nights.  I was born in Dunedin and lived here until I was 13, when I moved to Auckland.  My husband also lived in Dunedin for a while, and he went to Otago University.

I'll have more quilting photos to share next week, but this week I'm throwing it over to you to share what you've been up to recently.

Feel ...

It's Christmas Time from Wendy's Quilts and More

My work is finished for another year, and I'm looking forward to some quality quilting time.  Long, warm summer evenings, and lots of sport on TV - that combination makes for great stitching time.

I've got so many things on the go at present, so I really hope I can finish some of them before the end of January.

I thought I'd show you some of my previous Christmas quilts today.  Of course it's summer here in New Zealand, so we don't need Christmas quilts on our beds.  Instead we tend to make wall hangings and ...

Quilt backings (NOT the boring type) from Wendy's Quilts and More

It seems like I'm never at home at the moment.  I was in Dunedin on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and by the time you read this, I will be in New Plymouth for a few days.
While I was in Dunedin I caught up with my good friend Sue Lucas.  Sue took me home to her house and I got to see some of her amazing embroidery (plus quite a few unfinished quilts). I've got quite a few photos to share, but I'll save them for a future blog post.

The view from Sue's house.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Wendy's Quilts and More

2019 is almost over.  I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas with family and friends.  We certainly did here.

I cleared my sewing table in the family room and we put the presents on the table, rather than under the tree this year.

I got 3 new Mill Hill Santas to join the one I've already made.  I love making these little decorations and they look so good on the tree.  Here are some other Mill Hill kits I've made in previous years.

I gave mum some of the new Land Art fabric by Odile Bailloeul ...

Symposium survey results (and the Peacock Party) from Wendy's Quilts and More

Thank you to everyone who filled in my survey.  I received 111 responses which certainly exceeded my expectations.

The best news is that everyone was very pleased with their tutors.  The Symposium committee did a great job of selecting skilled tutors who taught inspiring classes.

Our excellent tutor, Margaret Sampson George third from left

The New Zealand Quilt Symposium model is a unique model in quilting these days.  A group of volunteers offer to run:
- five days of classes with national and international tutors
- an exhibition showcasing the best of New Zealand quilting
- a Merchants Mall with at least 20 ...

Symposium wrap, a survey, and the Peacock Party from Wendy's Quilts and More

What a week that was!

Some blocks I started at Symposium

Yes, I'm back from Symposium and filled with inspiration.  I met so many lovely people and I want to thank all of those people who came up and introduced themselves to me.

There must have been at least 3 people every day who came up to me and quietly said, "You won't know me, but I read your blog / follow you on Instagram".  It's wonderful to know that so many Kiwis read my blog.  I really thought most of my blog readers were American, but it ...
