Plumberry Coming Soon! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Plumberry is about to be delivered to your LQS!  It's been such a long time since we've had a collection of historic reproduction fabrics in all shades of purples and plums.  The wait is nearly over.
I made my quilt, Nan's Fancy, using Plumberry and am so, so happy with how it turned out.
Here's a bunch of blocks using Plumberry.  It's so nice to see the fabric pieced into blocks.
The quilt is now quilted and I'm binding it in the evenings.
I took these photos on my patio in the shade so ...

Introducing ForeverMore ~ My NEW Block of the Month!! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

To say I'm excited to finally show you my new BOM quilt is an understatement!  I've been working on this project for so long and couldn't utter a peep.  But I am silent to more!

ForeverMore

My new BOM is a truly traditional quilt with some of the oldest fabrics I've ever had the pleasure to reproduce!  I chose some really fun-to-piece sampler blocks, along with a collection of small blocks, that all surround the Starburst center.

Wait until you see the gorgeous fabrics!  Don't wanna wait?
I completely understand.....click here to see my ...

Antebellum Sew Along ~ Part Four from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I don't know about you, but I feel like these past weeks have just flown by.  Here were are at our final week of the sew along.  I'm really hoping you enjoyed this one as much as I have?

Let's make our last batch of Half Square Triangles.

Using (20) light print and (20) blue print 2 1/4" squares, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the light print squares.  Match each with a blue print square and sew 1/4" on both sides of the drawn line.  Cut them apart, press to the ...

Introducing Plumberry from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

It's always a fun day when I am able to introduce you to a new fabric collection!
Plumberry ~ Designed by Pam Buda for Marcus Fabrics
I chose many of my recent favorite prints to recolor in shades of lavender to eggplant.  Oh what fun!  Believe it or not, all of them are historic reproduction prints from antique quilts c. 1850.
I do love purple and plum historic prints.  I'd really be missing those plums in my scrappy quilts!  The problem is....not many fabric companies create historic repros in shades of purples, therefore, they are hard to come ...

Antebellum Sew Along ~ Part Three from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

So happy you're back with me for week three of the sew along.  Let's get started....
With the red print HSTs you made last week, and trimmed to 1 1/2", sew (5) of them together, pressing seams in between open for the side borders.  The side borders should measure 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" unfinished.  Check your measurements before proceeding and fix any issues that may arise.  Sew them to the center LeMoyne Star block; press.  (Press the HST border in the direction that is better for the points of your HST, and that may ...

Antebellum Sew Along ~ Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Welcome to part two of my Antebellum sew along.  I hope everyone enjoyed making the LeMoyne Star center block.

Let's make some Half Square Triangles.
Using (12) light print and (12) red print 2 1/4" squares, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the light print squares.  Match each with a red print square and sew 1/4" on each side of the drawn line.  Cut them apart, press to the red print.
Trim to measure 1 1/2" square.  Make (24) light/red print HST.

That's it for this week.   Not too much sewing ...

Antebellum ~ Quilt Archaeology Reveal! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Finally!  Today is the day I can reveal my new Quilt Archaeology sew long project called Antebellum!

This will be a long post, so plop in a comfy chair and grab your favorite drink (Iced tea for me!) and read on....
Here's the old quilt we will replicate.  It may be a block in a larger quilt, but I think it makes a pretty great small quilt.
As a country, we're all coping with this quarantine together, and being it's Memorial Day weekend, the summer is around the corner, and so is July 4th, I thought an ...

Wash Day from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

One of the things I really like in a quilt is a positive/negative block.  That means, using the same block but swapping the fabrics in the background and the block design.  Some blocks work well for this while others don't.  I really liked the effect with the block in my Wash Day quilt.

It's a simple block to piece....and set alternately with an Quarter Square/Hour Glass block, the positive/negative really stands out!  And....you get the big stars in the secondary pattern.  Winner, winner, chicken dinner!  Not to mention how I love that paisley ...

Get A Bunch of Your Favorite Colors! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

From time to time, I select a bunch of pretty prints into what I lovingly call color bank bundles.  As we discussed in our comments from a couple of blog posts ago, we all lack certain colors in our stash, and this is an opportunity to stock up on some of the things you may be longing for.
Maybe you need some black prints?
Or a nice selection of reds?
All of us can always use lights and neutrals!
And....since those cheddars are so darn hard to find, I bundled those up, too!  There are several color bank bundles ...

19th Century Prairie Pocket as Design Inspiration from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I hunt antique stores and shows for vintage quilts and fabrics to reproduce in my fabric collections and you never know where inspiration may come.
I spotted this antique Prairie Pocket under a pile of linens.  First, I love the old pockets, and they're very hard to find, so I was immediately interested.  Closer examination of the fabric had me hooked!   The fabric is paper thin and very faded, but the design is wonderful!
I used this sweet fabric in my New Circa Essentials collection which is in your local quilt shops right now.  When I'm about to ...

Past & Present ~ All Quilted from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

My new quilt, Past & Present, came home from her trip to Las Vegas to be quilted by Valerie Krueger.
I thought I would share photos of the quilting Val did for me.  We can all use good quilting ideas!
There's just natural daylight on the quilt so we can see the quilting.
I love all the quilting designs, and there's no question....the quilting makes the quilt sing!
I love that brown border design!  So unique...and she quilts free-hand!!  Amazing!

I'm sewing the last of the binding on the quilt this evening.  Photography and printing coming ...

Piecing Problem Solved! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I want to share a solution to a common piecing problem in hopes it helps you as well.

The problem:  sewing two triangles tips together where the two triangle points don't separate as they go through the feed dogs.  The points are too small to be held by a pin.  Even my favorite fine patchwork pins are too big for this job.

The solution:  Acorn Seam Align Glue

What's different about this glue than any other fabric type glue?

It was developed to be used instead of pins when sewing your seams.  I can't say that I ...
