Working On A Top Again from Quilting My Way

This morning Patrick was off to his golf tournament. I was going to enjoy the day to myself. I had a hard time trying to decide if I wanted to work on my beading or go downstairs. I know I need to get more tops done, so I headed downstairs.

I was tired of seeing this on the wall. I decided to go down and get to work on it.

Of course there are those days when things go wrong. At least this was the only thing that went wrong so far! I sewed the two square together twice. So ...

Cutting and a Camping Trip Catch Up from Romany Quilting

So what have I been doing lately?  Cutting some strips to work on my RSC Cobblestone blocks.   Blue is the nominated colour this month so I dug into my bag of batiks to see what I could find.   I do my cutting out on top of the chest freezer, which is just the right height for this job.  But like most jobs these days I have to pace myself so that I don’t affect the muscles on my back.  Just a little at a time and I get there.

Milkweed at the Texas Quilt Museum from Art and Quilting in Camden

Frank Klein has emerged as a major collector of contemporary art quilts, and I’m delighted to say he has several of my quilts. There is an exhibit on now at the Texas Quilt Museum that includes my Milkweed. Even better, I love that one of my friend Deborah Boschert’s quilts is also in the exhibit, and we “bookend” one of the images. Here is a video for those who, like me, won’t have the pleasure of visiting in person.

It was a delight to learn of this exhibit, that I and so many wonderful artists I know ...

First Operation Done from Quilting My Way

This morning we were out the door by 4:15 am. We all piled into the van and headed to UW Cancer Care Alliance. Patrick arrived at the hospital for his check in. We couldn't go in. Family and friends are not allowed due to Corona Virus. We all hugged him and wished him well. I walked him to the door and then turned back to the van.

Katt, Susan and I headed to breakfast. The plan was to stay in the area to make sure he was okay during and after surgery. We headed to the closest I-Hop ...

My Visit(s) To The National Quilt Museum from From the Strawberry Patch...

I borrowed the photo (left) from the Internet. When I visited the museum on January 30 it was raining so hard in Paducah that I was NOT posing for a snapshot out front! These photos, below, are from the first time I visited here in 1993. Can you spot the  biggest difference between the two? The museum has undergone a name change! Somehow I missed this occurrence when it happened and it became my

Cats on Tour from Romany Quilting

We are away on another trip (lucky us), the weather was good and the car and caravan just hummed along.  We had our  favourite radio station belting out all the songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s “songs that you know and love”, as the adverts say, rather like spending time with good friends, as we hummed along.  Gemma came too, of course, and she is quite good on car rides, she usually spends her time beside me, leaning on the consul with her head facing backwards as we drive along.  Rather like an ostrich with her head in the ...

QOV Presentation Day - AND VETERANS DAY from Quilting My Way

This morning I needed to get moving. The Veterans Memorial Museum was having a Parade at the museum. So, I needed to get to the museum before the traffic arrived. - OR so I thought!

Arrived early - about 10:30 am and enjoyed the time with my group. We were wearing masks today because of all the traffic. We ended up using the room upstairs which helped keep us away from the visitors to the museum.

We were able to give this quilt out to Robert Moore. He looks so young! And yet he's about 45 years old. I thought ...

Such a busy weekend, quilts and all from Romany Quilting

We have been away up in Takapau in the Hawkes Bay celebrating our Caravan Club’s 600th Rally.  Robin and I were Rally Captains for this rally, so were in charge of organising the activities.  And of course we had to order a 600th Rally Cake to share with all the members.

Our first outing of the weekend was at the grand old Oruawharo Homestead on Friday morning when  for High Tea.  This was served in the beautiful Vincent’s Church, moved from Takapau township in 2012.  Used as a wedding venue, birthdays, anniversaries  and High Teas, this church has ...

Volunteering At The Museum from Quilting My Way

This morning I was up and out the door. I stopped at Starbucks to get some tea and some yogurt with fruit. Then it was off to the museum.

I arrived to find Greg there. I was expecting Sam, but she didn't make it. I had my mask with me. I ware it half the time. When no one was there, I took it off. I also worked on my embroidery.

I got a few more stitches in on the bird. I need to work on the next color. I kept working it. I wanted to get more color ...

Museum of Things Found With Metal Detectors from Michelle's Romantic Tangle

My youngest son got a metal detector for Christmas. Luckily, the Museum of Things Found With Metal Detectors isn't very far from home. Honestly, I'm not sure it would be worth a lengthy drive unless you're also planning to check out the covered bridges in the area or the Linn County Historical Museum, which is totally worth a road trip. But to get a kid excited about his new metal detector, it was fun to visit.

The museum is at White's Electronics and they have a huge display of the metal detectors and geiger counters ...

Hometown Girl from Stash Overflow

The Maryland Historical Society has been running a year-long exhibit of Mimi Dietrich’s quilts. It is coming to an end mid-March. If you are in the area, I highly recommend going. Three antique Baltimore Album quilts are also included in the exhibit.

Mimi has led over 50 tours of the exhibit so far. Contact the museum to arrange a tour with Mimi for your group. For those of you who can’t make it to the museum to see the quilts in person, she is doing a virtual tour on her blog. Start with this post and read forward ...
