Finishing a Project, Pat Pauly & a Note to my Mom from Where Art & Life Meet

I’ve been busy. My Zoom class: Making Waves ~ A Drawstring Bag, which was an eight week “stitch along” is concluding today. We had SO much fun! I cannot show the finished bag in this post, but I will in next week’s post when I will also launch it in my Etsy Shop. Very exciting.… Continue reading Finishing a Project, Pat Pauly & a Note to my Mom

On this day from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

...I always think of my mother.

Nineteen years later, I still cry when I think of that day. The losses we suffered, whether we knew someone that perished or not, come roaring back.

I think about how the day unfolded—at work. I was at my desk and had a moment to check some news. I went to CNN’s website and saw the smoke emanating from the North Tower while the news anchor was calmly speaking about what might have happened.

I told my supervisor about the plane that crashed into the tower. He looked at me like I ...

Quilt Challenge Day 2 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I made this quilt when my mom was fighting cancer and Alzheimer's. Life felt deeply depressing, so I designed it to give us both a little cheer. (I really need to take a better picture though.)

Love, Sewing Nests & Impatience from Where Art & Life Meet

I bet you can’t guess who sent this to me… If you guessed my mother, then you’d be correct. She alternates between, humor and heartwarming. While spending these days at home, I have been reminiscing about fond memories from the past. Perhaps it is because everything has been temporarily derailed; all my travel and deadlines have been put on hold and I have more time to just… remember. And for ...

My "Accidental" Green Thumb. from Val's Quilting Studio

I've always had a few houseplants...but my spider plants have gotten out of control!
And I honestly can't seem to resist the temptation to propagate them continuously.

HOW to PROPAGATE SPIDER PLANTS

To Propagate, just trim the babies off once they've started to spout little nubs
like shown in the picture below.

I like put my babies into old shot glasses to root in a sunny window. But you can also put them directly into a small pot of soil. I just like to watch the roots grow until they fill up the glass.
Once the ...

Our secret conversation from Quilting with Kimberly

Mom and me, shortly before she passed away in 2016.

My Mom and I share a little secret. We have little “meetings of the minds” where we share heart-to-heart communication on a regular basis. Considering she passed away more than four years ago, you might think I’m a bit quirky to make such a statement. But she and I communicate through our secret, shared language of needlework. Even now, all these years since she left this earth, we send each other nudges of love.

I’m a quilter. Mom was a cross-stitcher. And she was positively brilliant at cross-stitch ...
