Ditto Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Ditto Quilt by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Mastering a new quilt block is like learning to ride a bike. You may feel a bit intimidated. Your uncertainty might cause a few wobbly stitches.

Then, just like magic, you’re soaring across the fabric without a care in the world, cranking out quilt blocks like a pro!

Ditto by Jenny Doan of the Missouri Star Quilt Company.

This week, Jenny is working on a modern black and white asterisk quilt, and just you wait and see! Once you’ve conquered those first few seams, you can ride off into the sunset with a trail of beautiful quilt blocks in your wake!

Corn maze and pumpkin spice on a quilt! from Pieced Brain

Corn maze and pumpkin spice on a quilt!

Check out this magazine cover for Autumn: corn maze and pumpkin spice on a quilt! Make this easy quilt for your home or as a gift. And, read on for a giveaway!

Yes, that is my quilt on the cover of the September 2021 issue of American Quilter magazine. How awesome! I made “Corn Maze” using amazing batiks from Moda‘s Sunny Day collection. The fabrics have all the colors I most love and fun textures that add lots of depth to the design, making it really difficult to choose just a few for a project. Batiks are my most ...

Flip Flip Dot from Quiltwoman Blog

While browsing the Quiltwoman.com website I saw a classic pattern that I really liked. I liked it because the pattern looked very versatile. With just a quick change of fabrics it could be used for anyone. It is called Flip Flop Dot (MD-68) and was designed by Marlous Carter of Marlous Designs.

You can see our full selection of Marlous Designs patterns here.

Flip Flop Dot Quilt Pattern MD-68

The Flip Flop Dot pattern includes instructions for three size options: Lap/Throw, Twin, and Queen. The pattern is great for stash busting but would also work well with a ...

I can’t believe I forgot to write a post about the quilt Deck the Halls that I designed for Dear Stella Fabrics. I worked with their collection Sparkle All the Way but it would look great with any of their Holiday fabric lines (I love “Baby it’s Cold Outside”. No, wait… so many options!).

Lone Star Quilt from Let's Begin Sewing

A lone star quilt has long been on my bucket list of quilts to make. When I signed up for Sarah Bond 's workshop that was about variations with a lone star block, I decided to stick with the traditional pattern.

I have lately been experimenting with colors I normally would not work with which includes darker backgrounds, non primary colors, hues and shades I rarely see in my Instagram feed. One of the best ways to pick these colors is that they are the ones that are usually not sold out at a fabric store. :)

Anyway for this quilt ...

Orange Creamsicle {a finish} from Factotum of Arts

As QuiltCon Together approaches (02/18/2021) I thought I would share this quilt that made it into the virtual show but had not made it onto my blog so far.

Say hello to Orange Creamsicle. Orange Creamsicle started with a single block that I had hoped would be a great compliment to the rest of the Sunday Best blocks.

IMG_6340

To be honest the block just didn’t really work with the rest of quilt. Yes, that became the start to Orange Creamsicle.

I introduced some limits to this quilt after the first block, as I really wanted to try ...

2020 REVIEW - A Year in Quilt Magazines

Wow, 2020 was a wonderful year for sharing my quilt designs in magazines! Several of the quilts are large bed quilts.  Most are easy one or two block patterns. A couple are foundation paper-pieced.

Three Times Three (above)

The “Quilt Parade” begins with “Three Times Three” on the cover of Curated Quilts.  This is my FIRST cover on a quilt magazine.  Exciting!

NOTE: There are compensated links in the post. They help you find the things you need and costs you nothing.

2020 COLUMBUS MODERN QUILTERS REVEAL from Kwilty Pleasures

My modern quilting group,
The Columbus Modern Quilters
recently had an on-line reveal of our 2020 Mystery Quilt

We received a total of 7 Clues.
The last was the layout of this top.
I grabbed some screen shots.
(photos by quilters, power point by Leigh Morgan)

This is my Mystery Quilt.
My hubby thinks it looks like a Native American design.
I'll go with that....when deciding the name.
I plan to quilt this one in 2021.

Rachel never disappoints with her work.
There were lots of little HTS left over from
one of the blocks...they ended up ...

IQA Closing As Quilt World Changes from Carol Lyles Shaw

The International Quilt Association is another victim of the Pandemic and, perhaps, of changes in the quilt world.  The IQA founders and board decided to close their doors.  It’s a sad loss–they published an attractive journal that documented winners of past shows and also sponsored lots of events over the years. Their judged shows set …

Why Do I Sew? from Carol Lyles Shaw

Why do I sew?  Why did I choose sewing–specifically quilt making — as a medium for expressing my creativity? Since I was in college, I have loved visual art.  I am especially in love with 20th century painters in the  Colorfield genre.  I studied the works of Alma Thomas, Sam Gilliam, Mark Rothko, Helen Frankenthaler, …

Today’s prompt is Show Us Your Fabric! I’m not super organized but I have a basic plan.  And I try to keep it up — although this means a general clear up about every few months. So this is another honest craft room post, my dear friends! I keep my grunge, ombres, some solids and …

My Views on Unfinished Quilts from Carol Lyles Shaw

Oldest UFO is today’s prompt for the 31 Day Blog Writing Challenge. I don’t have many old UFO’s–I dislike having them taking up room in my home.  What I DO have are quilts without their bindings….so I confess to that. Unfinished quilts exist in many quilter closets. We can call them UFO’s [unfinished objects] or …

My early quilt projects and influences from Carol Lyles Shaw

Today’s 31 Day Blog Writing Challenge prompt was ‘first quilt projects’ and I will share a few of those.  And,  I’m going to detour and also talk about just a few of my early important influences too. I started quilting over 30 years ago to make family quilts.  Unfortunately, I don’t have photos of those …

Real Sewing Space from Carol Lyles Shaw

I love seeing the #honestcraftroom on Instagram–it definitely helps to know that most of us don’t work in professionally decorated studio sets. Of course, a woman can always dream about a 400 square foot space with long design walls and built in overhead LED lights….and an assistant to do the pressing and cleaning up.  Sigh…….. …
