Mini Quilts Spa Day from Podunk Pretties

Before washing the quilts on display in my home I always check them for issues such as rips or stains.  It's rare for one of them to have an issue.  But there was the one time I washed and dried a quilt that somehow had what looked to be blood.  Even with trying every blood stain trick on the internet the stain is still very visible after many washings.  So as this little cabinet of quilts was emptied I checked every quilt.

While checking each quilt I tried to remember the last time they were washed.  To be honest ...

Some Sad News and some Good News from The Modern Diary

My Uncle Dan passed away this past month.  He flew to Arizona for a Spring Break trip and collapsed in the airport.  It took a bit for his body to come back to Wisconsin, so last week we had the funeral.  Combine that with my Mom's health declining (she went in for chemo and changed her mind since the prep caused another heart attack) I decided to go be with the family for the week.  I tried hard to pace myself so I would not get worse again this summer as I did last summer.  Here is my uncle ...

Sew Frustrating from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Welcome to a new week. How bad can it be with Pi Day tomorrow? I have in mind to make a Dutch Apple Pie for Two, but I could change my mind between now and then.

For now, I'm busying myself trying out a new recipe for Orange Rolls. They can be made two days ahead, and then baked off when you're ready. I made the rolls first thing yesterday morning...well...maybe not the first thing, but close. When they went into the refrigerator, they looked like this:

It was my day to ...

Snow, Snow, and More Snow from Cat Patches

Happy frosty morning to you, my friends. It snowed most of the day here yesterday. It was hard to believe it was still coming down, particularly with temperatures above freezing. Nevertheless, the temperatures aloft were colder, and the white stuff came down, down, down. Yeesh. I'm thinking it might be gone by July. It was a pretty sunrise this morning, though.

When I sat down here to write, I noticed this frost on my window.

It almost looks likes its own frozen forest scene. I can remember the first time I saw frost on a window. It was at ...

Little Bits from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Yesterday's weather was a slight improvement over the previous day, but it's raining hard again this morning. It might be time to start building an ark. We had a long grocery shopping list for yesterday's enjoyment, and that's all done. We won't need to go back again until after we get home from next week's camping trip. It's always good to have that job behind us. Today, I have a few housekeeping chores on the agenda, but then I can sew to my heart's content.

Before we left ...

A Finish and an Almost from Cat Patches

It's been blustery and cold here...definitely good sewing weather. I spent the whole live-long day going at it yesterday, and I have some finishes and near finishes to show you. First, I sewed the binding on Mrs. Claus' Cookie Team. This was fun to make.

It's about snack mat size at 13 x 13. I have a spot on the coffee table beside me when I sit on our couch in the morning where I set my iPad and my coffee. Right now, I have a mini quilt I made long ago there.

'Tis the Season from ... Cat Patches

We had grocery shopping to do yesterday morning, and so I wasn't able to get to my sewing until late afternoon. Fortunately, the items on my to-do list were not time-consuming. My stitching cats helped me finish off the binding on the Scrappy Snowflake. You see here the Stitching Cat and the Emergency Back-up Stitching Cat. One must always have a ready supply of stitching cats on hand while sewing on a binding.

The Snowflake ends up at 14 x 14 inches.

Here's how it looks from the back. I used fabric from the cut off end from ...

Snowflakes on my Mind from Cat Patches

Have you noticed most of my sewing since arriving home has been either fall or winter related? It's just a coincidence of timing as things moved along the conveyor belt of quilting projects. Yesterday I had my long-awaited pedicure with a new nail tech. I'll say I was just a little anxious about having my nails done by a complete stranger. It's an intimate experience for both when someone is washing and massaging one's feet, and so I was hopeful we'd be compatible in whatever way that matters.

There was a little time left before ...
