Snowfall from Jean's Quilting Page

Last summer I received an email that a design I had submitted was going to be in the Jan/Feb. 2022 Love of Quilting magazine. The design was my version of clouds of snow coming down and ending softly on the ground. Living in the Midwest, snowfall can sometimes be really annoying, especially when you have to get somewhere, but it can also be really beautiful as it comes down, coating all the trees and landscape in a coat of white.

It was exciting to hear and I got busy and started making it. The blocks at the top of ...

Quilting Apps. from QUilting By-You

Sometimes when I am overthinking things, the world just seems strange. Who would have envisioned that we would be wandering around with miniature computers that make phone calls and are small enough to fit in our pockets? Who can now envision their life without one? They certainly do make things easier or at least a little more instant.

I will confess that I do not know much about quilting apps. In fact, there is only one that I have sporadically used and that is QuiltingCalc. However, since phones also have calculators I found that I wasn’t really using it ...

Ekman’s Arrows Quilt Pattern from Flying Parrot Quilts

I’m pleased to introduce the third quilt I have hanging in this year’s QuiltCon, which is Ekman’s Arrows! The pattern for this quilt is in this year’s edition of QuiltCon Magazine.

This design is inspired by an oceanographic phenomenon known as the Ekman Spiral or Ekman Transport, after Swedish oceanographer Vagn Walfrid Ekman. When the wind blows across the ocean, the surface water moves at a 45-degree angle to the wind, and each successively deeper layer of water moves at a greater angle, but more slowly (due to friction), than the surface. As you descend down ...

Handwork Happiness – A Review from Hooked on Quilting

Given that it’s still too cold in most places to get out and do outdoor things, sitting inside with a project that can be done indoors, either at home or elsewhere, is the perfect solution to keeping yourself busy while possibly multitasking by listening to podcasts, audio books, or that movie you just love and have seen 100+ times to the point of not needing to actually look at the screen because your memory takes over and plays it in your head without ever having to look up. You know the ones…

On a particularly cold wet day last ...
