String of Beads 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

Love String of Beads.

The original design was popular in the 1930s, when there was no fusible webbing and was all done by hand. Now the beads can be cut from fabric which has fusible webbing attached, ironed onto the background and easily machine stitched.

The designs would also make a great quilting motifs for both hand and machine quilters.

Speaking of hand quilting, what sort of needles do you use?

Jinny Beyer tells us what she uses.

I love the second design.

The best quilting tip EVER from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Happy Birthday, M!!!!  It's hard to believe that my little kiddo is 25 today!!! I have to say that I'm quite proud of her. She's fiercely independent, although she's still just a kid - at least to me. She'll always be a kid! That way, I never age!

She was born around 2:30 AM, and it's bizarre because I woke up at 2:30 last night. I NEVER do that. Perhaps I was reliving the moment 25 years ago. Have a great day today!!!! Love you lots!!!

Yesterday was our Virtual Retreat, and oh ...

More .SVG Play from Tink Squared

I’m really excited to play with the wool felt when it gets here. This morning, I have another design I would love to cut with the Cricut Maker using the rotary blade. This one is a bit more complicated than my first attempt (which I’ve not cut yet, I’m still playing in the software).

I went through a few of the appliqué libraries in EQ8 this morning and picked two to play with. I taught myself this process, which involved printing to .pdf from EQ8, when I made my schoolhouse quilt. All the floral appliqués in it ...

Fat quarter quilt patterns I love for Spring from Pieced Brain

Fat quarter quilt patterns I love for Spring

Gather some precuts to make these two fat quarter quilt patterns I love: a modern quilt and one with machine applique flowers to welcome Spring.

“Spring Dance” was just published in the Late Spring 2021 issue of Quilter’s World magazine, and also in the Fat-Quarter Friendly Quilts publication. These colors are so beautiful! They are from the Balboa collection by Sherri & Chelsi for Moda Fabrics.

It measures 54″ x 70″ and the blocks finish at 12″ and 4″. It comes together super fast so it is a fun weekend project. If you are a beginner quilter, this pattern is ...

Applique Inspiration from From the Strawberry Patch...

Infused with inspiration by applique quilts on display at the National Quilt Museum I came home and planned a little wallhanging of my own. More on that after the back story. This quilt, by Pat Holly and Sue Nickels is entitled "Two of Us". They're quilting sisters,  both from Michigan, and draw their inspiration from folk art applique quilts of the 1800's. They celebrate the spontaneity of our

I Finished the Appliqué from Tink Squared

I worked on the last of the appliqué a bit at a time yesterday. Jim pulled out mid afternoon on Friday for his contract job in Georgia. It occurred to me, since he’ll be gone for about a year, why not pack up his desk top and put my embroidery machine there? Of course, I […]

Machine Applique from Quiltnotes All Blogs

Applique means "to apply" and applique in quilting means to apply one or more fabrics on top of the other. Apply the applique by machine or by hand. This article looks at two machine applique techniques: raw edge applique and turn under applique. The two most popular machine applique stitches are the zig zag stitch (also known as the satin stitch) and the buttonhole stitch (also known as the blanket stitch).

Close-up of button hole stitch in machine applique. This is a decorative stitch that you want to see. Instead of matching the thread color to the background applique, the ...

Monday ♪♪ Monday Machine Applique Class from Humble Quilts

Here we go! 2021 is here and it is up to each one of us to make it a great year! Attitude is everything!

I'm going to start with a video on machine applique. I have several quilts I've hand appliqued, but most of mine now are done by machine. I just do not have enough time to do as much hand work as I'd like.

Check out the You Tube video! Click on the photo above or go directly HERE.

Here is one block on an entire reproduction quilt that I machine appliqued.

I've scheduled ...

LAL#7: Inspired by Online Ruler Work Classes, Bathroom Tile Projects, and Chasing Butterflies from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Oh my gosh, you guys -- how is it Tuesday AGAIN?!  Last week, my big focus was on finishing up the quick and easy (NOT!) baby quilt top that I dreamed up in December of 2018.  It was for a baby who is now nearing two years old and who will become a big sister on or about October 1st.  I finished the curved piecing of these 9 1/2" giant clam shells last week and added a 2" outer border matching the background fabric, just enough so the clam shells float away from the binding when it's finished.  And ...

Halloween quilts – 2 fun patterns you will love from Pieced Brain

Halloween quilts – 2 fun patterns you will love

Jazz up your indoor Halloween decor this year with these Halloween quilts – 2 patterns you will love as they are easy, fast, and fun!

Photograph by Quilter’s World. Used with permission.

The first quilt is called Haunted House. It measures 37″ x 37″ and the blocks finish at 12″ and 6″. Simple log cabin blocks frame the center applique’, with the cat and bat adding movement to the design. I chose to make the quilt center lighter and the borders dark and bold for interest and contrast.

A new needle makes the world go round from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Another GREAT day! I was listening to the radio this morning, and they were talking about being a morning person or a night person. I have to say there is nothing better than getting up before everyone - a new perspective on the day, no baggage from the day before, and the whole day stretching before you!

I get it that night people could have their own reasons, but this is what works for me, and I LOVE getting up early.

I also look forward to checking the stats on my Virtual Challenges since they update overnight. Small things amuse me ...

Christmas in July Wall Hanging {Finished Project} from Little Bunny Quilts

My Christmas in July Island Batik project is finished!

I added a penguin applique to the lower right corner of the top of the wall hanging for a little bit of fun. This is actually the same penguin that is available in our Seasonal Placemats and Seasonal Wall Hanging patterns; I simply scaled up the design.

For the quilting, I used white thread to quilt loops and snowflakes. I added eyes for the penguin with a fabric pen.

The binding is a navy mottled Island Batik basic that I had a half yard cut of in my stash. For the ...
