Mosquito proofing on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome! I've been so busy getting ready for our Outdoor Exhibition that I haven't done much else. Although I would love to play in the garden, it's been hot and humid, and now raining. I may as well do a little bit of stitching between reading books.

Mosquito proofing my swing

I bought netting curtains at Ikea and created this cover for my swing. It's one of my favourite places in the garden and has an excellent view of my birdfeeder. This was a first attempt and only needs a few adjustments to be ...

Alaska and a Quilt Show on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome! I'm back after a week away. Alaska was gorgeous but I caught a cold - so I've been resting to be ready to volunteer at our Quilt Show tomorrow.

Alaska Wonders

Here are just a few highlights. The best part by far was a trip to the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary and Totem Park, outside of Ketchikan. We did see a mama black bear across the river!

Stunning forest - so much to learn!

Mixture of Sun and Clouds on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hello! I hope that Spring has found you and that you have a little sunshine in your days. We've had lots of clouds and rain, but I've been busy making my own Suns and clouds in the studio, getting the second part of my Outdoor Hanging Sculpture ready.

Finished Suns

The three Suns are ready - there's Sunrise, Noon Sun and Sunset. They were finished so I hung them out in the back yard to see how they would do.

Odds and Ends on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome to week 581 of Free Motion Mavericks.

Fibre Fling finds

Last Friday and Saturday was the Out of the Box (OOTB) Fibre Artists' Fibre Fling 2024. I was there for most of the two days, spending my time at the Membership table. I had a chance to meet with fellow members, potential members and see all of the wonderful work of these very talented artists.

If you didn't see it, here are my two pieces at the show.

Spring Tulips is coming along on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome. Spring is finally here after our last snow storm. The snow really encouraged the Spring bulbs to appear! What a wonderful sight! I've been appliquéing, quilting and making my 3D Spring Tulips piece. There sure is lots of learning going on here!

Scrappy Journal on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome. ⛄ Are you under siege with snow? I'm sure that it won't stay, but it's here. At least it will be Spring again eventually!  I have a spring-like project to share.

Scrappy Journal Challenge

A few weeks ago I participated in another Vintage Page Designs Challenge. We made a Scrappy Journal. It took me longer than a week to make but I love how it turned out. I've cut up paper to create more of these in different sizes. Hopefully I'll play with them soonish.

Creating a sunrise on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Hi and welcome to week 573 of Free Motion Mavericks. It feels like Spring, especially after the coming of daylight saving time and that wonderful daylight. I always remember my great-aunt at this time. She would joke that she was tired all summer, after missing her hour of sleep. That's how I remember that we loose an hour in the Spring. Thanks matante Marie!

FMQ a Friend's Quilt on Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

I have a free motion quilting (FMQ) finish this week. It's my girlfriend's first quilt and I offered to quilt it. It's gorgeous!

FMQ with Wavy Lines

Sylvie, my friend, took a quilting course last winter. We pinned it in May last year and I finally started doing the stitch-in-the-ditch in August. I was busy with my niece's quilt in the fall but started the FMQ in February. I was about a ⅓ of the way through so to motivate myself to get it done, my March One Monthly Goal (OMG) was finishing the FMQ. It ...
