Finally. . . from Elsie Quilts

My hubby was thirteen days before he got the one little red line instead of two. He is still coughing a bit, but back to his normal self. We have been busy with catching up.

I did tell you about three finishes. I can only put two of them here as the other is a Christmas surprise for a special person. It will be posted next week. Here are the two little ones. They were leftover panels from the large quilt already posted. The first used up most of the remaining border print of small lighthouses, plus the blue I ...

Lighthouses finished from Elsie Quilts

This one is done, just needs a label and a better photo. It was slow but enjoyable to quilt. I don't have a computerized longarm and rather than marking the motifs on each block, I marked them on Press 'n Seal, stuck that to the block, quilted the lines and then tore it off. Took about 20 minutes per block but didn't seem that long. The design was simple and easily done in one continuous line, except for the center. I had another alternate motif but didn't take a picture of it.

I had two lighthouse blocks ...

Lighthouses from Elsie Quilts

Someone gifted me with 6 yards of lighthouse panels. I was going to cut them up and make table runners, but didn't like the way they looked. So I cut them up and put them back together with some sashing between the blocks. There was enough trim to go all the way around as an outer border. It is big, about 90" x 92" or more. I ran out to the nearest fabric store and found a perfect backing. It is now on the longarm, batting on top of it, and waiting for me to have enough energy to ...

Out and About from Romany Quilting

We are away on another caravan trip, this time for three weeks, from Urenui in New Plymouth down to Waikanae with the ICA (International Caravan Assoc) group.  I’ve found time to do some handwork, stitching a little more on the tea towels I’m making for my grand-daughters.  I’ve got this far on the pink one, and still have the boy fish slice to stitch.

I’ve got my knitting bag with me, and thought it would be a good opportunity to start stitching up a pair of burgundy socks I completed a while ago ...

Guiding Lights: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Lighthouse colour board at Clever Chameleon

It’s the school mid-year break, so I have plaaaaans!

Since my days have been gifted back to me for a fortnight, I am going to …

  • finish all the appliqués on the Lunarcy quilt!
  • get ahead on my study assignments!
  • finally answer the comments from my last two posts! Got a bit behind there, sorry.
  • do more exercise!
  • win the lottery!
  • bake a whole batch of Sky Pies for the freezer!

LOL. All seriously and increasingly unlikely, but a Chameleon can dream. Since I don’t buy lotto tickets, that second-to-last one can probably be safely ruled out. But some ...

Last Days on Holiday from Romany Quilting

So what have we been doing on the last days of our holiday?  Plenty, it seems, although sadly  no more stitching took place, we were much too busy traveling and sight seeing.  We stayed in Solway Park, Masterton for a couple of nights.  Our group made the most of sheltering under the large shady trees for Happy Hour.  The clock has just ticked over to Autumn and already the ground is carpeted with fallen leaves.  These crunchy leaves almost want to make you to get out there and kick them around.

Lemons into Lemonade from StitchinGirlMary's Blog

I made this piece for my mom and dad when they were living in St. Augustine Beach, Florida. My father requested it, wanting to cover-up the electrical box in their front hallway. The lighthouse had a plain blue background when I gave it to them.

After they moved back up north and my mother passed, my father gave it back to me. It had hung on the wall opposite of their laundry, and at some point in time a little bleach sprayed up onto it. I considered cutting around the lighthouse and foliage and stitching the whole piece onto some ...
