read moreGood day friends. It’s so wonderful that you’re here with me today. I really appreciate it.
Earlier this week, two photos of mine were published by The Sunlight Press. Two lovely ladies run the literary online press – Rudri and Beth. They’ve been very kind to me over the past few years, publishing some of my photographs. One of my goals is to have an essay published by them over the next 12 months.
This is the link to access the photographs –https://www.thesunlightpress.com/2024/11/04/photography-by-kim-hanson-3/ .
Of course, the photos are of nature. . . right ...
read moreMy head was spinning, eyes, sore, tired, and itchy. I call it “computer eyes”. Too much time sitting in front of the laptop. There was an hour before getting supper started. Making yet another cup of Earl Grey tea, scooping up the dogs, I plopped down in a comfy chair on our backyard deck.
Breathing deeply and fully, I feel my body begin to relax. The smell of rain is in the air, a welcome change from unseasonably hot, dry, temperatures. A black cap chickadee is poised in the poplar tree, singing and tweeting its melodious song. It’s always ...

read moreI do a 3-day design boot camp a couple of times a year. The charge is minimal for the amount of value in it, and I absolutely love doing them. The purpose of the boot camp is to give quilters a taste of what my teaching style is like, to further their quilting journey, and to encourage them to join me in either the QG Design Academy and/or QG Creative Design Society.
As you all know, I have reduced the price of the Society from $24.97 to $9.97 to make it accessible to everyone. My hope was ...
read moreI just finished a 3-day juice cleanse and will be happy to NOT see juice for a while.
Why did I decide to do it? There were a couple of reasons. I have been working out 3 days a week since December and have not lost any weight; I have gained weight. I have heard muscle weighs more than fat, and I am building muscle, but I also think menopause has a lot to do with it.
I also wanted to reset my gut. I have stomach issues and always feel like I ...
read moreI have been saying this for years. There is enough room in this industry for all of us. Whether you are a longarm quilter, a teacher, a quilt competitor, or a ruler creator, you are worried about your competition. I have been through all these things and learned there is room for us all! When I started quilting for customers, I was worried whenever someone got a new longarm. I thought… there goes my business. Same thing with rulers, teaching, and even competition quilting.
I realize that my competitive spirit, shall we say, sometimes ...
read moreSo today, I turned 55 and spent the day at Paoli Hospital getting x-rays of my hands, feet, and knees. Fun time! I have had pain in those areas for the past year. I got blood work done last year, and my ANAs were high, which I guess is a sign of inflammation in the body. I got more bloodwork done over a week ago and am still awaiting the results. The X-rays don’t show anything abnormal. The results say normal mineralization, whatever that is.
The worst is every morning waking up ...

read moreNo, I’m not talking about the football team. Last night was what I consider my first night out since not drinking (I’m not counting going out to dinner). My brother, sister-in-law, and sister went to an interesting Cuban restaurant. I had thought that the food would be spicy, but two of the dishes were quite bland. Mine was delicious; it was kind of like a shrimp scampi.
We then saw an Eagles cover band, which was so much fun. I haven’t been to a concert in a while, and definitely my first with no alcohol. It was ...
read moreIt has been a hot minute since I’ve blogged consistently so I figure it’s like starting over now. My blog was primarily about quilting and while I have a lot to say on that subject, my life is quite different now so I figure my blog will be a bit different as well. So if you are looking for solely quilting… this may not be the blog for you. I will also bring you on my journey of (for lack of a better word) “enlightenment”. I apologize that this may not be linear.
I started my quilting business ...
read moreGood day everyone. Recently, I was directed to a website entitled, Her View from Home. Freelance writers like me were invited to write for them, on subjects including family, motherhood, parenting, relationships, faith and grief. My first submission was rejected… but my second submission was accepted. It’s entitled A Rock Solid Foundation.
You can read it here.
If you do read it, please consider leaving me a comment. As always, I’d love to hear from you all.
Thanks so very much.

I had a fictional story published in Cricket magazine called The Trapped and Tangled Loon. It was based on a true story and the backdrop was Police Outpost Lake in Waterton Lakes National Park. I have to say that I was pretty excited. . . maybe thrilled is a better word.
In between, I had two photos published in the Sunlight Press.
This was a very pleasant surprise for me. Although the pay is miniscule, the reward is huge. It’s made me feel compelled to learn more about how my camera works, a red, old-ish Nikon ...
read moreI’ve waited a very long time to be a writer. In grade eight, at Queen Elizabeth Junior High School, I had a story published in the school anthology. A week later, the vice-principal, Mr. Kelly, summoned me to his office. Given who I was at the time, I was terrified. He sat me down and asked me questions about what books I’d been reading.
“To Kill a Mockingbird,” I said. “In English Lit class”.
He folded his hands in front of him on the splintered, carved-up, wooden desk.
“Several teachers have remarked on your story. It’s very ...
read moreThe flat prairie lands of southeast Alberta begin to change around Drumheller, as Hoodoos spring up without notice. Bordering each side of the secondary highway, the landscape rises skyward, in a unique, bumpy, hilly kind-of way.
Taking Highway 56 traveling 28 minutes north of Drumheller, there is a small, roadside sign at Township Road 324 announcing “Rowley”. Turning onto the dirt road, the ghost town is immediately visible.
It’s actually a ghost hamlet rather than a ghost town. In fact, unlike many ...

Good day quilters! It’s been a very long time since my last post here. Of course, that was not my intention for my blog to languish. . . life has been so very busy, like it has been for many of you.
After 30 years residing in the same home, we decided to move. We looked at homes on the market sporadically throughout the past few years, but finally agreed it was time to get serious. It took us several months to find what we wanted – a smaller home, preferably a walkout bungalow. Besides longing for a she shed, I had ...
